Anyone recommend a Celiac and Lactose test?

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a Celiac & Lactose intolerance test(s) please?

My ex partner has had grief with her tummy now for as long as I can remember. But in the last two years, she's struggling to eat/swallow and often ends up in a coughing fit.

She is 80 and is just skin & bone. She also has zero appetite and can't smell.

She's been to the doctors I don't know how many times and they are not getting to the root cause. In fact they're back tracking and going back to thinking it's cancer....and want to test again for cancer.

The root cause, imho, of her malnutrition is that she can't swallow very well. After reading up on Celiac disease. I think this is a more plausible explanation than having MRI and scans again to see if she has cancer....as cancer would have shown in the bloods. Celiac would have also. But only if they were looking for it.

Any help or advice much appreciated btw.

I’d be asking for a referral to speach & language. They can help with swallowing issues

Could well be a better idea than what they're suggesting now. Thank you.

"Could be dysphagia x"

Thought about that....but one of the tests she had, said her whole stomach wall was inflamed, as well as her throat. So the docs put her on anti acid Lamproxadroll....not sure that's the correct spelling.

6 weeks later, no real change. Though her swallowing is a little better. So now I'm trying to think out of the box....because the dics seem to be going over the same ground.

I lost 20k in a month twice in 2 years… bowels inflamed and seized up - probably caused by stress, but essentially I ended up getting a Gluten & Lactose intolerance - also got shingles… but to fix it, I went on an elimination diet (similar to carnivore diet) took a healing peptide called BPC-157 - orally - and over time added in potatoes and rice - feel amazing, gained most of the weight back, feel better than I ever have done in my life, and have no interest in adding Lactose & Gluten back into my diet, however, I can tolerate them a lot more now

Don't buy an intolerance test, they're all quacks preying on vulnerable desperate people.

Look up the website for "Coeliac UK" (can't post links on here) - they have plenty of factsheets etc on how you should be assessed and tested.

WonderWomanWLV is right, most of the home tests are rubbish. There is a Radio 4 program called Sliced Bread, check out the episode on Home Allergy Tests. You can listen on the BBC web site. They concluded that most of them are rubbish and the ones that are not need experts to correctly interpret the results....

Many thanks everyone, for your advice. I don't think it's worth buying a test by the sounds of it.

Will try to get her onto a gluten free diet and see if that makes a difference.

Many thanks for the peptide idea. Donkeys are less stubborn than she is. So my chances of getting her on to that, is probably slim to none. But if nothing else works. I have that as an idea.

Thankyou to everyone for your advice and have a wonderful day.

Definitely this and they have an online questionnaire to establish a need to get tested by your gp...there are other reputable sites that offer the same. You can show the results to your doctor. I did this and just waiting for the results now.

If you want a formal coeliac diagnosis, she has to still be eating gluten when tested (and for 6 weeks prior). If you're happy to just try gf without the diagnosis then crack on. If it works, it'll be obvious very quickly - i felt like a whole new person about a week in.

Besides celiac intolerance

Check Pacreas insufficiency (I thought I was celiac but I'm taking Creon Enzymes now)

Check FODMAP diet (I got that too)

Almost forget

The only trustful celiac test is a stric 1 month gluten-free diet. It's difficult because a lot of processed food contain hidden trace of gluten. Then eat gluten again and experience the changes

You can do a blood test before and after to compare the inflammation level too
