My ex was on that, I had to go down on here a LOT longer than usual (which I didn't mind) to make sure that she orgasmed, was all good once 'warmed up'.

Yes I can find it difficult to reach the O since starting it, someone told me to try taking it at night and that's helped quite a bit with the side effects.

Yes I often struggle to cum, so antihistamine intrigues me…..do you know which type?

I’m trying to ease myself off the Sentra line for this very reason

If you tend to have sex more at night schedule your dosage for as soon as you wake or vice versa. If you've only been on it for a few months you may find after a little while longer of taking it things return a bit more to how they were before. Or in consultation with your prescriber it may be a case of refining the dosage a little.

For women in sertraline as well as making it more difficult to achieve orgasm can also reduce your natural lubrication. So a good lube could be a suggestion. Also things like more prolonged foreplay anything that turns you on even a little bit go into that area more and longer, think more about arousal rather than out and out horniness if that makes sense. It may be a case of adapting your sex life much like often making small positive changes in your general life will help.

That being said, if you're finding it impacts too negatively speak to your prescriber. There's a lot of different anti depressants and whilst these effects can be common with this type (ssri's) you may find after a bit of trial and error across forthcoming months another suits you better. It can be a tricky road to negotiate initially.

Good luck and good health.

It was impossible to cum in the first few weeks, but I found it got better after a couple of months. Eventually decided to come off sertraline because I hated the feeling of detachment.

It along with citalopram can cause permanent penile heat insensitivity. Years later it can still have lingering

Don' t assume that your GP's will know about this side effect.

"Don' t assume that your GP's will know about this side effect."

Indeed, one of the main reasons why I decided to come off them. GPs would simply renew the prescription without seeming to appreciate what it is I was dealing with.

I miss them some days when anxiety runs high, but it seemed like too much of a black box to be hooked on.

How many people read the warning labels?

This needs to be discussed with your GP, failing that a pharmacist.

Well, if they're prescribed to you after an anxiety attack or a period of depression, somehow I don't think your sexual activity is front of mind for them.

The near constant posting of this topic highlights the fact that medical Professionals and mental health practitioners are failing to fully explain the occurrence of sexual dysfunction when taking antidepressants.

They most commonly result in erectile dysfunction (both getting and/or maintaining and erection), but also the occurrence of ‘anorgasmia’ (the inability to reach orgasm.

This can happen to both males and females.

Often the side effects of taking antidepressants significantly contribute to the ill mental health of the individual taking them.

I find it completely infuriating

Hmm strange. Sounds like it would have been Levocetirizine. Which is known to have a likelihood of interactions with Sertraline and other ssris of increased dizziness and drowsiness. I wouldn't suggest taking them together at all. You need to have another conversation with the doctor or perhaps a different doctor. Good Luck.

No impact but I'm younger by a bit. I've always needed a lot of foreplay anyway and as I get older lots of lube. yeah for perimenopause and menopause...not.

I've been on anti-depressants since my early 20s so my body is probably used to them...

I get terrible withdrawals if I forget a dose though!

I also have had a lot of psychotherapy ( more to come) so it keeps me more connected to that mind-body connection that is necessary for the orgasm.

Hard to orgasm if you are worrying about something or stressed.

Sadly it's a fine balance between relaxing and consistent stimulation that gets harder as you age.

Declining hormones can lead to Vaginal and clitoral Atrophy.....The men already know the problem and take the little pills.

Unfortunately the majority of ssri medication can cause this, one of the few that doesn't is mirtazapine but that can have a sedative effect. I'm currently slowly reducing my meds ready to come off them (gp approved). It's almost impossible for me to currently orgasm, even after a 3 hour session

Those pills work for erections, but not penile numbness.

I was on it and weaned myself off it over 2 months. I was unable to orgasm. It was so annoying it was making things worse. Like I said 2 months weaning myself off and a short time for it to clear my system and everything is back to normal sexually.

I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones that everything is ok without the Sertraline.

Yes.

Which is funny, because when I was younger I used to suffer from premature ejaculation big time. Now I can find it hard to cum or stay erect…

Decreased libido is one of the recognised side effects of sertraline, sadly.

On occasion, I make sure I can be confident about avoiding any ‘equipment malfunction’ by taking a viagra.

I don’t think there is anything that is medically proven to boost libido. The only thing I can think of is perhaps discussing with your doctor either a change in the dosage prescribed or switching to another SSRI.

Outside of that, perhaps investigate taking herbal supplements like maca root.

Concentrate on the symptoms, not just the numbers.

Crude example it's normal for some men to be bald at 54 and normal for the other blokes to have a full head of hair: you know your normal, let your GP know the big picture.
