So many reliable resources on the Internet. Fab isn't one of them.

A quick Google says up to 70% of adults have HSV-1, so a fair few people on this thread will have it, even if they don't know...

I’ve spent my evening chatting with a health care professional on a vanilla dating site. After I mentioned fab the subject turned to STDs a couple I’d never heard of. She said 1 in 6 have type 2 genital

Only if encephalitis or meningitis is suspected - the cerebrospinal fluid is tested for cause. HSV is merely one potential cause.

Blood tests can't detect it!

Blood test detect antibodies to the herpes simplex virus (HSV), which are produced by the body when fighting off an infection. This test can reveal if someone has been infected with HSV-1 or HSV-2, even if they don't have visible symptoms.

AI doesn't tell you the truth. Blood test accuracy is about 34.9%, and it's not offered as part of a regular blood test. 77% of people have HSV, most don't have symptoms.

Okay! The only accurate test for HSV is to swab a sore, so if you don't have symptoms you can't be accurately tested for it. Like I said, blood tests are not reliable. Google results are also not reliable because pharma is selling you blood tests. If fab allowed links I'd link the relevant scientific papers.

My answer was not based on a Google search.

There's a New Zealand site "The Best Place in the World to Have Herpes" that has a pretty extensive FAQ.

They say that 22% of the population has an HSV2 infection (which is generally in the genitals), and about the same percentage have an HSV1 infection in their genitals. So that means about 45% of the population have a herpes infection in their genitals.

Which is a pretty scary figure! It sounds like the only reliable way not to be exposed to the virus is not to have sex.

And obviously you'd expect herpes to be more prevalent amongst swingers than in the general population...

World Health Org says 64% have HSV1 and 13% have HSV2, both in either location. I don't understand why there's such a stigma around it, it's a mild skin condition that most people already have. I caught it when I was 17 through oral sex with my first boyfriend, who had never had a cold sore before.

I caught it decades ago from a cheating boyfriend! Can’t remember the strain but it was treated super fast and I’ve never suffered since

"World Health Org says ... 13% have HSV2,"

Makes you wonder why the figure is significantly higher in NZ. Is it the sheep?

Don’t denigrate the sheep, please.

They aren’t as promiscuous and carefree as humans.
