I’m thinking about having the snip as I am done family wise and definitely do not want anymore.

My Mrs will not go on the pill however is totally against me having the snip… what do I do? She seems to think it’s a decision not to be taken lightly and she may not be done yet.

Has anyone had a similar battle?

Also, those that have had it done… what was it like, how long was the recovery phase and also have you noticed any differences to anything in the bedroom?

Thanks in advance

Had mine last year. Kids were a complete no go, so time was right. Op was half hour. Discomfort during rather than pain but given whats happening, it's understandable.

Day or so of a strong ache afterwards, a week of tenderness but nothing that interrupted work.

Nothing is affected as a consequence. Mrs R is happier not having to take the pill as she had done for years, so I figured it was the least I could do.

My position on this is this…. It’s your body. You know when you have enough responsibility and you don’t want to over do that to put yourself in a position where you burn out. Your relationship could break down for it and either way you need to sit down with her and explain you don’t want anymore children and maybe come some sort of agreement. Explain that you take parenthood very seriously and you only have enough energy that you have to give to the ones you love and bringing in another child into that would mean burn out. It’d mean financial strain. It could potentially lead to you having negative feelings towards her if you do have another child that you don’t want. It’s not fair on the child either.

Have a chat with her about it and be calm and civil and I wish you all the best of luck. I’ve read online that they’re not that bad - heard a few horror stories but you always hear the bad. 99% of the time it all goes smoothly and you’re back to your normal self within a week!

Similar to last poster but 20 years ago. Mine DID hurt. Like being kicked by a horse...twice. Major discomfort for the rest of the day and then a week of gradually fading aches. Maybe techniques are better now.

Zero effects other than the intended ones. Well worthwhile when you consider that the alternative of female hormonal contraception carries a small but real health risk of cancer which is completely avoidable by us guys stepping up and taking responsibility.

Remember also that you are being "disconnected", not sterilised, so if your wife's objection is the finality...well usually it isnt final.

Is there another reason you want the snip? Do you think your wife suspects you're playing away?

If you ended up in another relationship and you wanted children, What then?

You're quite young, you may not meet the criteria for having it on the nhs.

I had the snip 20 years ago. Very embarrassing as a guy I played football with his wife was the nurse. Let's just say my manhood seemed to know what was going to happen and shrivelled up.

On a serious note I have never felt the same intensity of orgasm. Also as it's only semen you cum a lot less. So all those ladies that love a heavy cummer will be disappointed.

Had mine about 25 years ago, some soreness for a week but it was manageable.

Only thing I’d say OP is your age, seems a little early to me, but that’s just an opinion. I had to convince my Dr. that I was ready as it’s a hard procedure to reverse, so that may be something to bear in mind.

I had it done many years ago and fortunately, my wife was fully supportive. Nothing changed in the bedroom, just as good as it always had been. With swinging it actually gave me confidence knowing that if something happened like a condom failing/coming off, (it does happen to most of us), then no way was an unwanted pregnancy going to be an issue. Win win.

Looking on nhs website, a reversal is not usually done on the nhs (good), and a reversal may not be successful.

So don't consider the snip as temporary.

Had mine done this year. Hurt like hell. And wasn’t done correctly so had to go back for a re snip a week after which hurt twice as much.

And 6 months on I still get pains every now and then.

I would say the amount of cum I produce since having it done is mostly a lot lower.

Also 6 months on and I still haven’t had my result come back as negative. Several cup samples in now. So isn’t the best after experience.

Yeah a bit achy afterwards for a few days but nothing compared to child birth as they say.

I would say my libido has diminished as I have got older but that could be natural anyway and as a result I prefer the cuckold scene more as I feel less pressure to perform but still enjoy the spectacle of Mrs N having naughty fun with more potent men that can satisfy her more than I can nowadays.

Vasectomies are easy.

Reversals are not.

This is more about your relationship than your sperm count though.

I got the snip when I was in my early 30s because my now ex wife wouldn't have sex with me as she didn't want to risk getting pregnant again, she didn't want to go back onto the pill and she didn't like using condoms.

My advice is to do what is right for you, talk to her and if your wife can't respect your decision then you have alot of talking to do lol

As for pain I was back at work in the afternoon with just some mild discomfort, people's pain thresholds are different

Well they will obviously say that as part of the selection process? Dumb not to. But it takes very little thought to realise that the sperm are still there and a new childless wife would be an ample (or slim) reason to request reversal. It is possible, though maybe not guaranteed, whatever the nhs propaganda currently says.

I think only 2 options:

1. Trade the wife in for a new model, after all what's the point of divorce if you're not going to use it

2. Go f**k it and get it done anyway

Interestingly, a guy at work got a vasectomy about 5 years ago. He has teenage kids already with his first wife but got married again (don't make the same mistake twice), to a woman 7 years his junior who wanted kids. He had the vasectomy reversed! They are now getting divorced.....

Had it done in my early 30s, with no complications at all and no change to sex life in anyway, still have the same sensation and cum just the same. As other have said though it is not a decision to be taken lightly as reversal is quit a low success rate and very expensive to have done as not covered by the NHS (rightly so) as for your wife not wanting you to have it done this is something you both need to discuss very carefully and work out between the two of you as if I remember rightly you still need your spouse to consent to you having the operation for some reason that I have never understood as it is your body and your choice.

Rach and I cracked heads over this when we both about to hit 40. I was adamant that I did not want another child (with her or anyone else) whereas she didn't want to rule it out completely so I said that it would make sense if I did it - and after several fraught discussions I got it done just after my 39th birthday.

For me personally there were no side affects or issues, done on a Sat at 10am, home for 1pm and 2 days later I was on the outskirts of a mosh pit at a gig.

Not regretted it once, if your mind is made up it's a no brainer.

Had it done when I was 28 as my then wife could have died if she got pregnant again. Never regretted it, it has given me no problems, and it has meant I could often do without a condom.

I was laid up for a day with swollen and painful balls, but that cleared quickly and I was in full health again. Had to be tested a few weeks later to ensure it had been effective.

There was a scare back around the 80s, I think, that it might cause premature aging, but that seems not to have happened at all.

It's definitely not to be taken lightly, especially as relationships can fail , that being said it can be reversed reasonably successful nowadays. I had mine at age 32 my wife couldn't use the pill. I was intolerant to condoms and it was the least invasive procedure of the two main forms of sterilisation. If you're sure just go for it.

Mine has always been the opposite, my cum has always been on the thick side , where I used to be able to shoot to the ceiling, not a chance now. I was told by my GP it's because you no longer have the fluid from your testicles that transports the sperm to your prostate that then mixes into the semen you ejaculate.

Your self-autonomy has a higher priority than your relationship status. You have said that you are done with having children.

If the shoe was on the other foot and your wife said she was done with having children, then you would have to respect that too. It works both ways.

The crux of the matter is if one of you wants future children and the other does not, then this imbalance needs to be resolved.

Had mine done about 15 years ago!

Hurt like fuck afterwards as I had a hernia repair done at the same time!

I can honestly say- it’s reassuring that the baby issue has gone but i still get real pain where the tubes were cut and sealed! I can feel the end of them-like a very hard pea and very painful if we get a bit carried away or she’s on top! Feels like a punch in the nuts!

"I’m thinking about having the snip as I am done family wise and definitely do not want anymore.

Thanks in advance "

So from a woman's point of view, IF she was to go on the pill and you didn't want her to, you would be accused of abuse basically, but because she doesn't want to use any form of protection that's ok??

I think you both need to sit down and properly speak about it, you shouldn't feel pressured to NOT get the snip of you feel that's right for you
