First of all because I can’t find anywhere to say this.The name absolutely sucks and is only leading everyone everywhere to associate the virus with Black people(The opposite of the intention of the WHO who decided everyone knew about 1960s America)

Well cases of this disease have taken off across the democratic republic of the Congo and look likely to spread across West Africa.

While I doubt we will see it in Europe I wonder if it’s going to extremely affect the West African region.This could have implications across all of Africa.

I don't get the association with race, from the name change, just a reduction in the potential of mistakenly connecting it to the wrong sources. It's very wrong that the people originally largely affected weren't given suitable priority for treatment though. At least belatedly, some minimal treatment options were provided.

It's certainly going to continue to expand its range and a handful of cases have reached the UK. If you can get vaccinated for smallpox, then get it, as this should provide some protection. I'm fortunate to have had this luxury, unlike most in Africa who haven't.

WTF? Literally no one associates it with black people. Is this post a wind up? It is already in Europe and has been endemic in West Africa since 1970. What makes you believe mpox leads ‘everyone everywhere’ to associate it with black prople? It was named monkeypox in 1958 because it affected monkeys. It is zoonotic and there have been cases in humans since 1970. The WHO didn’t originally name it. It was changed to Mpox two years ago to avoid the possibility of any racist or cultural stigma.
