"Hope you get your OP soon. In Essex they canceled an in-laws heart op three times & he got fatigued enough to stop working full time which if he'd had the op he wouldn't have done. So a welfare cost could be added to the NHS failure. We have a daughter at college who had cancer when much younger. Last year she had some discomfort, turned out to be bowel growths/polyps so they went in & had a look & removed them there & then. Non cancerous in this instance but they need to know why she got them so young so sent us all off for genetic screening. Blood tests went off to one of only two labs in the whole of the UK that does this type of work. "They are very busy so we expect results back in 4-6mnths, in the meantime we might suggest an annual colonoscopy". 13mnths later we are still waiting for the blood results let alone a decision on the other. S" about the work situation,I've tried carrying on working for nearly a year but cpl of months ago I had to go get signed of by the doc so now only getting statutory sick pay and having to claim for rent and council tax so yea is costing them more and more also gona be in hospital for 7-10 days instead of overnight like I would have been when I first went in last year,is just becoming a proper bollock ache now | |||

"In all honesty, the opposite for me (I am Wales based). Diagnosed with melanoma in the middle of June, operation at the end of August and now on immunotherapy. Sadly, it's all still too much of a lottery. I hole you have your surgery soon and get on the mend quickly. " Cancer is a different pathway. | |||

It seems to be policy to deal with patients in this way. Forgive me for thinking it but it seems the administrative side of hospitals is in the hands of part-time people who are often off work unwell themselves. | |||

"Yay todays op cancelled yesterday new date they gave me yesterday for next week they have rung up today and cancelled that 6 or 7 times now in the last month and a half someone remind me why im paying towards something i cant use" I know how you feel, been told the same if it's not life threatening, pain and blood loss don't count,i just have to wait, a long time. My op been cancelled 5 times, it scheduled for end of may. It would have been life threatening long before then so they know they will have had to bring it forward. I have now gone private but because it was left too long I ended up have 7 ops instead of 2. The NHS staff have been great,apart from a couple of consultants, there isn't enough of them and they have too much to do. I hope you are sorted soon. | |||

"it only takes a couple of emergencies to upset the apple cart or illness / staff shortages and i know its a pain but such is life.. hope its sorted soon op " hahaha they cancelled todays one yesterday gave me a new date for tuesday rang and cancelled that this morning no reason given, been backwards and forwards for two years now, have told them i want to be moved to a new trust now as ive lost all confidence in them now, four different surgeons now in the space of six weeks have cancelled me thinks they not got anyone qualified enough to do a abdominal reconstruction | |||

My consultant had to work Saturdays as she was the ONLY one covering the whole of the trust so that's three big hospitals. I never expected that to be the case. | |||

I’ve had stage 3 melanoma that had spread to local lymph nodes but at the time was told I could only have immuno if I was stage 4 and then the NICE guidelines changed and I was just out of the 13 week rule. That was 7 years ago now. | |||

"Just a bit of a rant have had my surgery cancelled four times now in the last 5 weeks latest was yesterday after I turned up at 7 30 in morning kept sitting around to mid day to be told they didn't have a bed for me and sent on my merry way,anyone else being given the run around?" My wife’s operation was cancelled 5 times until she had it but it was 69 weeks from the date when her first op was cancelled. That day there was a planned Dr’s strike but her consultant rang to say that as it had been cancelled so many times they would be working. | |||

Turns out it’s a very aggressive melanoma (as we said) and needs to have multiple amputations, but too frail for immunotherapy’s. Once diagnosed things moved very quickly, but I suspect that ship has sailed. | |||

Its managed far better. Nothing to do with beds, its the case management. NHS isnt just A+E, although people end up there because they've been ignored or miss-managed. Then its the luxury of a warzone. Alarms going off, catheters overflowing, patients abandoned on the hard floor. | |||

Many reasons, but foremost is that many old and/or frail patients cannot be discharged because there is no family, nor care organisation to receive them. | |||

"sorry to hear about what has been happening to you i have had pacemaker issues recently and care has been brilliant hastings/eastbourne/brighton cardiologies don't get me wrong I got rushed in as an emergency back in 2022 and spent 17 days in high dependency unit and another two weeks on a normal ward and can't fault the nurses who looked after me,just seems if your not rushed in the running of it is crap,nearly impossible to talk to anyone to find out what's going on,funniest thing is when I went in last year and first got seen I was told it would be done keyhole surgery,now because I've been left so long I now need to be cut open from my waistband to where my ribs meet and it gona take 3-4 hours,sorry for the rant lol just wondering where the free at the point of use is if you can't get to use it Look at the patient charter, NICE guidelines. There should be guidance somewhere on your rights after x amount of cancellations. Obviously life saving ops take priority (my friend had hers cancelled twice and was told she could go private on the nhs due to the urgency).yea there not supposed to cancel more than 3 times and I pointed this out to them yesterday after sitting there for 4hrs before they sent me home because of no beds the other three times it's apparently been because the surgeon was off sick,keep getting told its a complicated op I'm beginning to think that particular hospital hasn't got anyone skilled enough to do it Well, you have the information, do something about it "There is a insurmountable pressure on the system at present. It sounds to me that you require some level of intense observation/therapy post op. This is where it becomes tricky because if there aren't enough beds in critical care then they can't do your op. This can be due to a few reasons. That the unit is almost at full capacity. Any emergencies that cone in overnight will take the bed. If you are at a big hospital that is specialist or trauma centre then it's more likely for your bed to be taken. Another issue is medical patients taking surgical beds on the wards. This causes a blockage in the system. Patients are staying in critical care longer because they can't step them down to the wards to free up itu beds.... Please complain to your MP.. Why are medical patients and patients waiting for rehab taking up surgical beds?? Fingers crossed that you get your op soon  | |||

"Its shit. So much better on the continent. The utter farce of the english nhs. Every excuse under the sun, utter nonsense, piss poor communication between depts. The NHS isn’t shit, if there’s no bed for after surgery what are we supposed to do? Camp bed? Top n tail? No beds aren’t an excuse, no beds are a reality on a daily basis, believe me when I say that the trust I work for struggle for beds even for emergencies, it affects us as much as it does our patients The nhs is broken, it doesn't matter how hard we work, we are working against a tsunami of government initiated problems. I hope and pray labour improve things. The first thing is to fill vacancies, the second is retention! Agree but would say Retention should be the first priority. Recruitment also needs to happen. The change in Tax and NI might close the gap between Agency's and employee helping to fill positions at a reduced costing.. " Retention will be easier once vacancies are filled as there will be less burn out. | |||

Quite agree mate privatise the lot and then after people will realise how good the NHS actually is when your walking in to ED and your being asked for your credit card for your minimum £2000 a night bed " It's like that with vet bills and NHS dentistry is pretty much private all the way. | |||
