"Why are people still testing? If you are ill you are ill? If poorly, treat it like the flu. Stay at home/avoid others, drink lots of fluid and take paracetamol. It’s clearly not even as bad as the flu if you can get over it in a few days too. " That's a big IF, as its effects can last over a year

"For the first time since covid hit; I’ve got it. Tested negative for 3 days when I felt the worst so still went to work believing it’s just a bad cold and then yesterday lost sense of smell and taste so did another test last night and it’s now positive " I'm curious. What was the point in testing? All you now have is a name for it rather than flu/a cold. Having it confirmed as covid hasn't made a jot of difference to you. The advice is still the same: take paracetamol and drink fluids. I've never understood why people continue to get covid kits since all you get out of testing is a name for your cold/flu symptoms.

Mostly because I work for my dad who is vulnerable. I also care about the people around me. My nan has stage 4 terminal cancer so I’d also not want to put her in an earlier grave than planned. It was her birthday over the weekend so I at least I knew not to go and see her. Although I’m still going to work I am being as sensible as I can be. Some people really don’t care that they’ve got it and will happily still meet people, go out etc. each to their own. But ive known enough people to die from covid to know I should at least be proactive in the best way I can be to avoid passing it on.

"So if it were flu would you still go and care/see them? Or even a bad cold?? No " so what difference does the test make?? As im sure it dosent change how people socialise with vulnerable family ect neither does it change the treatment, juat a bit lost to what the test gains people??

" If you are ill with flu or cold or covid most people would be a bit careful round people regardless of a test. I presume if you test positive for covid it's a lot more infectious and you can let people know so they don't spread it asymptomatically. We had an outbreak at work a couple of months ago. Wouldn't have known it was covid but someone's child has to have a covid test to go to nursery if they are showing symptoms. The little girl came back positive both her parents came back positive with no symptoms so everyone at my work tested with about a third of people tested positive. No one was ill at point but people started going down with covid over the next few thankfully no one was seriously ill.

"So the test and knowing someone had covid still changed nothing because everyone still worked 🤣so whats the point of the test?? " That's true to a point. The asymptomatic people stayed off til they were clear so may have stopped further infections. I personally don't test when I'll I just stay away from people. If my partner went down with covid I would probably test then.

Same, it’s my second time and floored me! I tested because we were due to go away with a vulnerable relative and wanted to be sure it was just a cold! It was just a cold when I tested and it was positive but it’s got worse over the last few days and I feel horrendous

And the saddest part working in the NHS is the simple self isolating and avoiding transmission is completely ignored by everyone now. Hand washing... Immunisations... Not coming to the hospital or doctors with a clearly mild illness and just resting at home. It's the same as pre COVID attitudes. The one thing we were all supposed to learn from the pandemic is how to manage a virus.

"I’ve been suffering with COVID all week, third time I’ve had it now and it’s hit me hard. The issue is, I work in retail (hobby stuff not food) and the amount of people that come in to the shop coughing and spluttering is immense. It’s not if I get it, it’s when I get it. I’ve been sensible, I’ve isolated and not gone into work, not mixed with anyone to try and prevent me spreading it. The main question is why do people feel the need to visit a shop, for non essential stuff when they know they are ill. Why don’t they just use common sense and get better first " It's the classic 'I haven't got time to be ill'. People have always done that The only reason they stopped during COVID was social stigma / fear that they might be the one's at risk Now they've had their jabs they're "back to normal" because they feel safe

Others aren't so well blessed with such traits.

If you have cold, or flu, or covid, symptoms. you'd avoid contact with vulnerable people in any case. Having a name for the flu-like symptoms makes absolutely no difference at all! That's all you get out of testing - a name for your symptoms!
