"You have to ask them for the oral swab. The line is unless your a male who has sex with other men you don't need it... I argue mine every time. " I am a straight man and always, always ask for a full card of tests. Just to be sure. I dislike when they say "oh if you don't sleep with other men the risk isn't really a factor" yeah, but I sleep with women who may or may not sleep.with other men, that sleepmwith other men, so it's all one and the same to me.

"I’ve never heard of an oral swab?! What’s that for? Anyway I use ‘free and clear’ tests, you have to live in Lincolnshire to get them" Swab on a stick which you shove down your throat. Not everyone has penetrative sex so handy for those that just engage in oral.

"Think if you say have sex with women as well they send one. I’ve just had a full kit from sh.uk " They don't.... we only get the vaginal and bloods.. or pee and bloods Despite saying we sleep with a wide variety of people. In fact in April they sent me a text to say they would send a throat swab out this time but in the future if I wanted a throat swab I had to go into the clinic... In fact when we had our recent round of tests we actually went in ( as we needed our booster) and they told me they don't test women or straight men orally as a routine thing. They also said its incredibly hard for a guy to catch anything orally from a woman... I disagreed but that's what the NHS guidelines are apparently. This is in derby

They don't even routinely send anal swabs.. and even if you don't do anal.. you can still catch something anally.. With throat infections on the rise , it doesn't make sense to not be testing people with throat swabs

"It’s always worth following the STi free home test links from your local NHS website- their lab service providers vary by region, county and even city boroughs: SH:24 sh24.org.uk SHL.UK for most parts of London WWW.SH.UK (Preventx) Checkurself.org.uk shwales.online (formerly FriskyWales) thesexualhealthhub.co.uk greenwichsexualhealth.org As mentioned most allow you 4 or 5 kits a year so that testing can be done every 3 months. Urine sample for men, vaginal swab for women, bloods and a throat swab. If you say you have anal sex in the online application process they will include another swab (in addition to the throat swab) for a rectal sample. I use SH:24 and it’s easy. There really is no excuse for anyone not testing regularly." Thank you, I’d had a look on the NHS website, a couple of the services weren’t available in my area or didn’t offer throat swabs. I’ll have a look at these sites.

I had to basically lie about symptoms after my male counterpart had got an appointment straight away as a bi male exhibiting them. I tested pos for a UTI, and then had to argue to still do other tests, and fight for an oral swab test. It was literally a case of them offering me a strip of antibiotics, and a here off you pop situation

Bi/gay/straight men get a better class of sexual healthcare in England. Offered free PrEP, enhanced sti testing, free HPV vaccine (I know up to 25s both genders now)... I'm assuming it's probably a funding issue... Apparently the main problem women have regarding sex is potentially getting pregnant 🙄

I'd love the HPV vaccine, just generally I think it's a great idea, but I also I have sex with bi men so surely I am just as 'at risk' as the bi men they will give the vax to?! Sadly at £160 a dose privately, and 2 doses needed, it's not an option for me to get it myself. Frustrating.

And don't even get me started on women paying for sanitary products, and in some cases, contraception, morning after pill. If men had to sort that shit out for themselves you can bet it'd all free! 😒

That many ppl would/could have come into contact with the virus and naturally fought it off. (I will say this is old knowledge from working in a sexual health and contraception service and I'm shit at remembering exact facts) K

"Once a month and between sexual partners. It's been said here already but most of the online sites stop you ordering that frequently, but the GUM clinics don't so I go there. Mind you, my ex was a sex worker so it's ingrained in my psyche to have a healthy paranoia and endlessly test. That and my sometimes risky behaviour." the online tests go on phone numbers. "Personally I would get the checkups done at your local clinic. I got a false positive from a home testing kit as did a couple of other friends and we were actually all negative on double testing after. At least at the clinic you know it's all done properly and it's much easier for them to do blood tests plus they can do a visual check if there's any concerns" problem with that is that not everyone has access to a local clinic.. or works the hours they are open. Many also now only offer testing If you have symptoms or were a contact of someone that does. I have to say in all my years of testing... I've never had a false positive. Also the clinic usually gives you the tests to go do in the bathroom by yourself. Except the bloods. I do make sure I go every so often for a visual check... but the postal tests are great for those that won't or can't go to the clinics

The swab tests I've had at a clinic they sent me off to do myself anyway. The only issue I've ever had with a home test was the blood clotting, but a quick fix as a new kit was sent for the sample. It was incredibly hard for me to get a clinic appointment, I had to take a day off work. I had to wait 3 days for the appointment, and nearly a fortnight for the results... I wouldn't be in a rush to do it that way again unless I really had to.

Those home blood tests things are a right pain in the ass. I always find myself taking an age trying to get blood out of my finger and then it's infuriating when I get a message to say it's clotted. Easier just to have nurse whack a needle in really.

I'm hoping to never come into contact with you or anyone that you meet as if you don't test and know what's going on there could be all sorts lurking there tgat you do not know about. There are infections with no obvious symptoms you know?" All solved very easily by not racking up a sky high body count, being highly selective and not indulging in foolishness and, frankly, manky behaviour.

" If you've got that many doubts gob in a petri dish, incubate and lock yourself away for a year. Yikes. what a silly thing to say... they are being sensible and we all should be getting tested as throughly as we can. Wtf are you doing to get tested regularly? Your attitude is so obtuse I wonder why you would be on a Swingers site - swingers by their very definition have sex with multiple partners. Catching an StI has nothing to do with ‘body count’, I’m trying to figure out what you determine to be foolishness or manky behaviour. When you are being ‘selective’ - how exactly do you select that person? I’m fascinated to understand the process and your criteria. Is there a quarantine period for example? Do you wear multiple layers of protection, insist on dental dams for oral and bathe your bits in bleach immediately after? It is simple fact that anyone that has had sex, even once, could have contracted an sti. Could be asymptomatic. How do you know you’re not currently a carrier? Do you have unprotected sex? Testing, protection and sex within a community of people who care about sexual health, understand risk, make their own choices. That’s what’s important.

" Why are you on a swinging site if you find multiple partners manky.... You can be as selective as you like. If you don't get tested you are irresponsible... it only takes one. We use condoms for sex but don't for oral... so oral swabs are important for us. We have to argue it every time. . It's quick, easy and free to get tested... don't know why anyone wouldn't do so regularly. Unless not having sex at all

As my old uni teacher used to say only 100% safe sex is to keep it in your pants not use it Getting regular test is just common sense. Sti don't distinguish between posh or working class rish or poor. Just luck of draw

I got a horrendous amount of abuse as apparently if I was using condoms there was no need for me to be tested at all.. let alone regularly... I was shocked that grown adults in this lifestyle were so misinformed.. Cali x

" You do not need multiple partners or, as you term it, " a sky high body count" to catch an STI. It takes tgat contact with just one person. A person who may be lovely, stylish, polite etc and have no symptoms at all. Back in the 80s , I had a friend who contracted HIV from the second person they had sex with in their whole life. Get regular tests. Protect yourself and others too. Educate yourself.

"Think if you say have sex with women as well they send one. I’ve just had a full kit from sh.uk They don't.... we only get the vaginal and bloods.. or pee and bloods Despite saying we sleep with a wide variety of people. This is in derby" The rules seem to vary for every district. And it's not even done by county or city! At my address I can get kits from SH:UK, but two miles away in a different part of the city it's necessary to apply to a different supplier. Both Stockport postcodes, but somehow coming under different outsourced medical treatment contracts. Utterly crazy. I'm currently looking into PrEP also, it seems that it's not possible to get it the sexual health clinic that is designated as serving my post code. But I am allowed to literally walk over the county line to a different clinic that is actually nearer, and they will supply it if I ask for it... It's a postcode lottery health system folks, we bloody well deserve better. Also, if your local clinic says no, then try a different one.
