About 3 feet away from the fence

When is someone going to ask how OP found out about this?

It's usually not announced as a PSA in the local papers.

It's also not something people will voluntarily tell you over a bacon butty in the cafe or waiting in the queue at ASDA.

Very often there's only one way you find out....

Article only a year out of date referring to data from 2022.

Perhaps before OP should come with more up-to-date information before accusing certain demographics of being responsible for spreading it, especially considering the article in question doesn't mention "bi-sexual men" at all..

"Bi sexual men are spreading it."

No, people having unprotected sex are spreading it. And the decision to have bareback sex goes both ways. Let’s not aggressively shame a specific group of people, when the receiver is just as guilty for not protecting their own sexual health, and insisting on using protection.

Also, why has a post been uploaded for this? STIs are a thing. It’s not a big deal. Yes, they can happen to you too! Get over it! If it does, be an adult about it, get yourself to the clinic and calmly tell the person who passed it onto you without childishly shaming them - maybe they didn’t know they had it, either!

However, as you have advised you had to get tested because you have been with someone who is positive then it suggests that it's YOU and people doing the same as you who are spreading it! In fairness Bi Sexual men are statistically the worst offenders - caveating this - Bisexual men who keep their sexuality secret from their wives… they are more likely to have risky unprotected anal sex with complete strangers (not in committed MM relationships) less likely to use Prep, less likely to get tested, less likely to seek prompt treatment…. all due to fear of discovery by their spouses.

I found some more interesting stats. Only 8% of people sporadically use condoms during oral sex. Someone isn’t telling the truth about their safe sex practices. Oh, and the risk of Gonorrhoea is about 3.1%, which, interestingly, is the same rate of people who have heart attacks in the US.

Cap d'Agde

There was a recent study that found that men who identified as bisexual were more likely to have genes that previous studies had shown were associated with risk taking.

Which is why taking statistics at face value is so dangerous!

Two questions you have to ask when any statistic shows "higher risk" are 1) by how much, and 2) in comparison to who?

1) They were actually looking for an explanation for why bisexual men have slightly more children on average than straight men. This was a study on a huge database, so even a small variation in risk was significant, and useful for them. The reports I saw didn't say how big it was, so we just can't say whether it's significant in a totally different area. If the risk goes from 10% to 10.0001%, it wouldn't be worth worrying about.

2) It was comparing against straight men as a whole. I really don't think straight men who are swingers are representative of straight men as a whole. I have no evidence, but it doesn't seem unlikely to me that swinging men are more likely to be risk takers on average than non-swinging men. So it could be that straight swingers are even more into risk taking than bi swingers - we just don't know.

In reality none of these studies focus on the group of slightly unusual people in the swinging world. So we really have no idea how applicable they are to us, and whether any difference in risk is worth worrying about.

Oh, interesting snippet for anyone reading this far: Gay men are no more likely to be risk takers than straight men. It's just those bi guys...

"What nonsense research. How can they possible gather stats like that when everybody lies. Look at the number of straight men on here who love cock. "

Which pretty much proves my point. What they actually said was "men who self identify as bi". They never said that it extended to bi men that identified as straight.

Interpretting stats is really, really difficult, so in general, we're all pretty rubbish at interpreting research like this. Quoting statistics like this is actually pretty useless to any discussion. Admittedly expert interpretation of stats is far from perfect, but it's much better than what you see in internet forums.

In general, you're much, much more likely to be right if you follow the advice of people who actually know what they're talking about.

Just one snippet off the web… I’m not Bi bashing, it’s just a statistical fact…

Men who have sex with men and women (MSMW) have a much higher rate of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) when compared with gay or straight men, ScienceDaily Reports. Publishing their findings in American Journal of Preventive Medicine, researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted a review of studies pertaining to MSMW published between 2008 and 2013.

MSMW make up an estimated 2 percent of the sexually active males in the United States.

The researchers found that while the prevalence of HIV is lower among MSMW when compared with gay men, MSMW are more likely than straight men to be living with the virus. MSMW are also less likely to undergo HIV testing than either gay or straight men. Twenty-one percent of MSMW reported receiving treatment for STIs in the past year, compared with 12 percent of gay men and 2.3 percent of heterosexual men.

The investigators theorized that behavioral elements may account for the disproportionate rates of HIV and STIs among MSMW. When compared with gay or straight men, MSMW may use condoms less frequently, start having sex earlier, be more likely to experience r4pe, have more sexual partners, be more inclined toward substance abuse, be more likely to have sex for money or goods, and may be more likely to have sex with male or female partners who themselves have higher risk factors for HIV or STIs. In addition, social stigma toward bisexuals may play a role in the higher HIV and STI rates among MSMW, as may economic concerns and pressures to conform to a masculine ideal.

“MSMW’s attitudes toward pregnancy influence their sexual health. Qualitative data from black men suggest that desires to prevent pregnancy may prompt some MSMW to consistently use condoms with women,” William L. Jeffries IV, PhD, MPH, writes in the paper. “Yet, MSMW may avoid condom use when their female partners use other contraceptives or when female partners perceive condom use as a sign of relationship infidelity. Further, MSMW’s desires to produce offspring biologically may prompt sex without a condom with female partners. In this regard, desires for fatherhood may indirectly increase these men’s vulnerability to HIV/STIs and transmission of these infections within their sexual networks.”

Yes, bi men may be higher risk, but higher risk than who?

Straight swingers are probably higher risk than the general public as well.

Henry thr 8th syphilis was the disease which killed him

No. There is very little evidence, if any that currently proves or even states a strong argument, that Henry VIII had syphilis.

The wound on his leg, which would never heal, was like the result of Diabetes mellitus, and not syphilis.

Also, Henry VIII had mistresses, and affairs but by the standards of a King in his day, he was actually a bit of a prude.

Haha nearly spit my coughing out laughing. So it’s only bisexual men fucking and spreading the disease is it! Better not meet any men so as a lot of the straight men on here are also on fabguys. The increase has to do with all the straight people having gangbangs without using protection.

Just wrap yourself in clingfilm you’ll catch nothing.! Just because STDs are on the news doesn’t mean they aren’t always there. Simple searches online you can see they are increasing among older straight people and not just the bi/ gay people. If you protect you then you reduce chances of catching nasties, don’t assume who you meeting are also protecting themselves.

"So many guys that are relying PREP . It may stop you getting HIV . The thing is there is so many other things to catch and pass on. Rubber up. "

Well op. You tried. Sexual health on a sex site would seem to be a worthwhile discussion to have, rather than endless unfunny piss takes. You can lead a horse to water.

I take issue with this. Have you been to Asda recently?

why would you think or say that? You’re like the people who blamed aids on gays in the 80s. Anyone can get or spread it. You’re being homophobic

I thought it was well known that age group 15 to 24 and MSM are more likely to catch an sti. Is that no longer true?

My imaginary made up thoughts would think the most rising stats is straight couples 40-60 who think they're safe cos they only bareback with other married couples

An article in the news, some months ago was saying that, one of those gated communities in Florida, for over the 50's, was rife with std's. Just saying. My takeaway from that is simple, the more people you have sex with, the more chance you'll catch something. No mention of any breakdown of any stats re bi, straight, gay.

A search of

F reliable sources on the Internet can easily provide that breakdown. Terrence Higgins trust has a lot of information.
