New year surge

Chesterfield

One of my family spread COVID around very generously over Xmas/ny and now everybody (but me) is ill with it.

Assuming everyone had been socialising a lot over the last few weeks and is now returning to work, I’m guessing it’s about to become pretty popular again for a while.

Levels were already high and the seasonal mixing will have exacerbated it .

The NHS is overloaded and flu/Covid will further this, towards breaking point.

Medical professionals are advising people to keep I'll children away from school and that adults who are unwell stay at home or wear a mask. I hope I'm wrong but I think there's a big wave on the way. Hopefully the big uptake of vaccination will stop it affecting things too much

Ahhh your all heart and a happy new year to you.

Let's hope non of your relatives become unwell with either given the horrific state of the NHS for some even a cold could prove fatal.

But hey,get over it right

There's certainly been a rise in cases here both COVID and this cough/flu -like thing. Numbers are bound to increase with the mixing, but thankfully so far the effects seem to be minimal to those infected (not life threatening)

I have quite a few friends who have had covid over the last few weeks. Luckily none of them have had serious symptoms, (or in most cases any symptoms) and they are testing negative again now.

The definitely seems to be more covid about and also a lot more flu, colds and viruses.

couple, us we him her.

People are still failing to get the point regarding keeping covid under control.

It's not about how I initially deadly it is, it's the shockwave it creates within people's bodies that can trigger other things.

And it's the same effect on the health service.

Problem is everyone is now really blasé about it all, and the NHS is not funded appropriately for the rise in traffic.

The seems to be mounting evidence and opinion that suggests the lockdowns and COVID measures which all but stopped flu in its tracks at the time have left us with lower natural Immunity across the population. The "immunity debt" that many back in Autumn 22 predicted would take place this this Winter certainly seems to becoming very much a reality.

In my circles finding somebody not carrying some sort cold, virus, flu, COVID, chest infection currently is rare. The stress on the NHS and the data suggests this is happening all over the country.

Don't be a douche. Being unwell with anything is horrible and very serious for some people with low immunity etc.

Funnily, though, this "immunity debt" is also hitting hard in Sweden, which didn't lock down, and Florida, which is notable in the US for its laxer public health measures.

The immunity debt apparently repaid in the winter of 2021 seems not to have helped the situation this year, and the widespread mixing in Australia (due to strict border controls) in 2020-21 seems not to have prevented crises in hospitals there.

Sorry to hear that. We're just getting better from it.

We suggest hot drinks, paracetamol and rest. Get plenty of tissues in (we're on our fifth box in three days) and inhale menthol if you can.

Get well soon

Pre-covid people made a virtue of never taking a day off work or school regardless of how ill they were. I'm not surprised they need telling.

There was apparently pressure brought on schools last year to reduce absences, which resulted in parents being told to send their children in while ill.

Mixed messages are issued all the time, then we get blamed if we're one message behind. An age old tactic to keep people unsure of themselves

There is a long administered conspiracy to install doubt in people, are you sure?
