it helps when the 'independent investigator' is a direct report to you and then the only person who has the power to bring a ministirial disciplinary is the priminister (you).... fully expect the report to say 'yup there is a drinking culture and parties happened but not point any blame at the PM' a few days of ministers laying the blame at someone else feet for allowing the culture to exist and then a sacking.

Day after Cummins will release a photo of Boris with a party hat on, swigging champagne whilst Gove is lighting his farts

Short Boris is in charge of the people who make the laws, who managed to gain enough votes to tell the country what they must do, especially in times of crisis.

Ignorantia juris non excusat[1] or ignorantia legis neminem excusat[2] (Latin for "ignorance of the law excuses not"[1] and "ignorance of law excuses no one"[2] respectively) is a legal principle holding that a person who is unaware of a law may not escape liability for violating that law merely by being unaware of its content.

European-law countries with a tradition of Roman law may also use an expression from Aristotle translated into Latin: nemo censetur ignorare legem (nobody is thought to be ignorant of the law) or ignorantia iuris nocet (not knowing the law is harmful)

Sorry Boris, but "I didn't know" is no excuse. "Good bye, you are the weakest link."

He oversaw everything that made the rules, so he should go.

Perhaps if all the "rules" had been written in Latin, our dear leader would have understood. Clearly, the vulgar language of the masses/barbarians doesn't register with him

Even if there were 54 letters of No Confedence to the 1922, he would survive.

Like previously mentioned, the anticipated Gray report won't change anything.

The outcome of the May mid-term elections will be more telling. If Conservatives lose majorities in councils up and down the country, then the parliamentary party and cabinet may well then decide to oust him.

Which is why 54 letters of no confidence won't materialise. Not yet...

"I think he will go but others should be named and shamed too."

the met police have been named and shamed

The Good Law Project last week said it had put the force on notice that it would take legal action if it did not investigate the gathering. On 19 January, a spokesperson for the campaign organisation,

When we received the Met’s formal pre-action response to our judicial review claim, over its failure to apply the same criminal law to the Prime Minister as it applies to others, they told us not to publish it.

I think the Conservatives will keep him, because there is no ready candidate to replace him.

They have had 3 leaders already since taking power and each time the quality reduces as you are fishing in a limited pond of 300.

Each election takes out several candidates perminently.

However whilst they may cling to him I think the damage is done. They falsely believe he won all those former Labour seats and so don't want to loose that winner.

But actually I think it was more a case of Jeremy corbin loosing all those seats as long term Labour voters could not face voting for him.

Whereas starmer whilst somewhat sterile as a character is not unpalatable to most Labour voters and will take back those seats regardless.

I don't see voters being as forgiving at the next general election. And if they keep Johnson barring a huge cock up by starmer I can't see the Conservatives winning.

Pretty much this unless Cummings has one more filled chamber in his smoking gun to show he was told it was against the law ..

I'm still not sure he will be there for the next GE..

I am hoping that Cummings has more treats in store for Boris but I am already seeing the excuses being rolled out, for instance his diary is looked after by his staff, so they will say "Boris can you thank the staff for their hard work please at whatever o'clock in the garden" so he didn't consider it a party.

and how could he lie to parliament if he really believed that.

mad but I think something like that will occur, if he had resigned I would of had respect for him.

I think the most angry people about this are those people who belatedly realise that they shouldn't have taken the restrictions so seriously.

It's quite clear the political class were simply engaged in an exercise of 'competitive caring'... determined not to be outbidden in authoritarian lunacy by their rival parties.

But they knew full well that there was no harm in eating and drinking in the open air or going for a drive.

Many people twigged this almost from Day One. Those angriest now are embarrassed

Erm no.

If the pm is doing 40 in a 30 zone and lying about it.

I'm not annoyed because I'm driving 30, the issue is that they have not been fined the same as the rest of us.

But what makes it worse is that he set the rules.

Whether you agree or disagree with a law is irrelevant.

But the law should apply evenly and those setting it should stick to it.

Its not like this was an obscure piece of legislation unknown to the PM.

He stood up every day saying it verbatim.

But also I take issue with annoyed. Commenting on fair and equal treatment under the law does not equal annoyance, I'm not going to go and protest etc.

But I do think the ballot box will move against the conservatives on this.

This reply goes against the theme a bit!

Whilst being seen at the party was perhaps not his finest moment, Downing Street is both his home and his place of work.

He would be working with the majority of those people on a daily basis in exactly the same setting.

I am not saying that was right, far from it but whether you like him or not, whether you think he is right or wrong in his decisions, he works bloody hard.

Many of the rules did not apply to work and I am sure many other large organisations had their lunch breaks in similar settings, as I am sure Downing Street itself did!

OK, now shoot me!

"He is in deep shit but surely the people who attended should be too."

I honestly believe the only reason they haven't sacked him yet, is because of the "investigation". The expectations are that the outcome will be damming, and justify sacking Boris... sacking Boris will be enough to take the pressure off the rest, so by not sacking him yet, they are saving their own skins.

In our workplace, we were not permitted to get within 2m of a colleague (still heavily encouraged not to), or students. The kitchen areas that previously had 2-4 seats for lunch were reduced to 1 and the on-site café only restored the tables and chairs in September 2021. If we'd all brought cheese and wine and sat together at lunchtime or after hours, we'd all have been hauled over the coals. Mr KC and I could only eat lunch together because I bring my own (wheel)chair and he could sit on the remaining solitary seat and we had to ask permission to do that (we obviously live together, as well as work together so keeping 2m apart seemed bonkers).

Our workplace cancelled the planned "mince pies and wine/coffee/juice" socially distanced, post-work event, originally planned for the last day of the term. The reason cited was the increasing infection rate and not wanting to spark COVID issues over Christmas for staff.

It's utterly irrelevant that Boris lives at Downing Street. It's also irrelevant to argue "but it was a work event." Work events are not essential. They are optional. No-one who left our workplace between March 2020 and Sept 2021 had a leaving event. No-one had after work drinkies (other than on Zoom from home, on their own). Yet we worked very, very long hours, forfeited annual leave etc. I personally took less than half of my annual leave in the 2020/21 year.

Doctors and nurses struggled (struggle - present tense) to get actual legally permitted meal and toilet breaks. No-one in any workplace needed cheese and wine events (indoors or out), no-one needs leaving parties, no-one needed a memo to tell them that planning "BYOB" via email or having discos in the basement were against the rules etc.

Oh im still firmly in the belief that Cummins is a creepy self serving liar, but also exactly that kind of character to have kept anything and everything that could be used to his own advantage if and when things turned sour.

He is probably the most narcasistic of the lot and definately has the mentality of 'I made you so i can break you'

Nothing he has released or revealed so far has been disproved. At the time the level of defence he got from those in power over the Barnard Castle farce did have me thinking 'what has he got on them' it seems a lot.

Isnt it a sad and sorry state of affairs that people are chosing which liar is most likley to have a smidgen of truth.

Cummins obviously was spinning a yarn over the Barnard Castle incident but I dont remember any other instances where he has been so clearly lying (happy to be corrected)

Wheras Boris is quite clearly a compulsive liar, who lies out of habit. I even think sometimes he doesnt realise he is doing it as it has become his 'default setting'. Even when caught out in a lie (fake stories he was sacked for) he has failed upwards.

His consituancy interview must have been good. 'So why did you leave your last job Mr Johnson' ... 'wibble waffle umm i was sacked for lying' ... 'Jobs yours mate you will make a great politician'
