So with covid-19 looking to be heading towards an endemic status very soon, there's going to be nothing for people to argue about anymore on these forums.

So I'm wondering what people think the next big topic that will be controversial and cause lots of arguments will be?

not new as such but the jabs will continue to be debated for a while yet. those who took them and those who didn’t will argue the toss as to which group made the correct decision.

You do know that "endemic" does not mean trivial? Endemic means it's here to stay and will continue infecting and killing people indefinitely. It doesn't mean that somehow everyone is miraculously immune to it.

Measles is endemic, it is only held under check by vaccinations, and whenever the vax rate drops due to the harmful campaigns be anti-vaxxers, children die from it.

Flu is endemic, it is only held under check by vaccinations. Whenever a new variant of flu comes out, some people die of it. Anybody who has ever had flu (proper flu, not just bigged up that they felt bad with a cold) will tell you that there is nothing "it's just flu" about influenza.

Polio was endemic, it was only eradicated by vaccinations (but not globally, there are still a couple of african nation where due to anti-vax campaigns occasional polio outbreaks occur). Interestingly the death rate for polio was only about 1%, very similar to that of covid, but everyone was shit scared of it. Maybe the public visibily of all those crippled children and adults spending years stuck inside iron lung machines had something to do with that. Wonder how many people would be trivialising covid if we had live coverage of the covid wards on the telly every day?

Malaria is endemic, there is no vaccine against it, the drugs have nasty side effects, last year there were 240 million cases of malaria and nearly a million deaths. People infected with malaria have long term debilitating symptoms even if they do not die. Of course most first world inhabitants don't give a stuff about malaria because it's mainly seen as a third world disease.

Endemic diseases are not trivial diseases. Endemic means society having to deal with ongoing illness and deaths, with over burdened health care, with reduced life expectancy, forever. Endemic means that in a few hundred years there may be some level of genetic immunity built up because of the shortened lifespan of those who are not immune (note though that smallpox was endemic for thousands of years without any immunity developing, at least 500 million people died of smallpox during the 100 years prior to vaccination being invented).

Endemic means that pandemic has reached the end stage where the war against a disease has been lost, not won. Endemic is where a war is over, not because of winning the war, but because of having permanently occupying enemy forces randomly choosing to kill people whenever they want to.

Endemic = very bad.

Climate illness. Or all will be whipped into shape to giving everything up to do your bit for the climate. Even to the point of stopping breathing, well you know we do have to get to zero co2 emissions regardless of plants trees flowers etc being dependant on that said co2 and us dependent on those such trees as our lungs to keep our environmental air clean. Trust the scientism

You never know, it may revert back to a swingers site.

Maybe the forums will become less active as folks will be back to work, shops, pub, friends, holidays, beach, park and all those normal things some have put on the back burner.

TBH only ever used forums before Covid to check on meets, clubs, parties and holidays.

God only knows these days, no doubt there will be some base in politics.

These arguments have always existed , blonde vs brunette, Nintendo vs sega, ford vs Chevrolet… in the past they used to go no further then the school playground, now they have moved on to social media and now entertained by supposed adults ..

The next big thing will be people saying that "endemic" means a disease has gone away or is trivial, being corrected by people who know something about science. With a side order of right wing politicians saying that because it's endemic we should just ignore tens of thousands dying of it, callous people saying that anyone dying must deserve it, and calls for mask wearing to be made illegal because it reminds disease spreaders that they don't care about other people. In other words, because covid is endemic, which is the exact opposite of gone, the virus forum will be here to stay but will become ever more toxic.
