He doesn’t want the jab fair enough but then he has to deal with the fallout from that! Faking an exemption is breaking the law though!

The law is what that society agrees to live by, there are other societies.

I'm sure people could trade in the dictatorship of Australia for that freedom loving society of China any time they choose.

(I think you need to research dictatorships)

Above the law because the law and rules are clearly explained and in place prior to the event. Anyone who believes that the rules in place don’t apply to them would be classified as believing they are above the law.

If the rules that are in place dictate that you have to wear predominantly white (as in Wimbledon) you have to abide by them regardless of your personal viewpoint

Oh please don't open that door, the very fact they said that North Korea would be a more open society than Australia shows the level of knowledge and insight that was used to make that decision.

Nobody has said the rules don't apply to them though have they.? There's provision for an exceptional entry.. That's also in the rules... They followed the rules.

If the law says you must do certain things before entering a country, you can do those things or not go.

If I'd have to wear Islamic headdress in Saudi Arabia, I wouldn't go if I didn't want to do that.

If he doesn't want to be vaccinated or have appropriate documentation, then it looks like he can't go to Australia.

How sad, turns out the law applies to everyone, even those who scream nonsense about vaccines. Someone call a waambulance.

Yes. Need three things.

1. Approval from Tennis Australia to compete

2. Approval from the Victorian government to enter the state

3. Approval from the Australian federal government to enter the country.

Not a case of just "not wanting the jab" which is crazy enough in itself.

At the start of the pandemic he denied covid even existed....but now thinks that having had it he is exempt (never been the case). He and his Mrs are also rampant anti-vaxxers.

Novax Jokervitch is getting what he deserves....Aussies should simply deport the idiot.

It is looking like tennis Australia messed up big time here… it looks as if they sent out a fact sheet to tennis associations stating that a recent covid diagnosis may be good enough to get a medical exemption…… however Australias federal health authorities specifically sent tennis Australia letters 6 weeks ago starting that having a recent covid diagnosis alone would not be good enough to let people into the country

... where the streets have no name!

Surely those most at fault here are the advisers to Novak J (+ others). As a globe trotting international sportsman you would think he would be surrounded by the very best legal brains. However, none of them appears to have realised what the hierarchy of

… Federal Authority: Local Authority: Tennis Authority

actually is in this case.

In many ways the bloke could be admired for his stance on vaccinations... I totally agree that it is an individual's right to choose (possibly a misguided choice?) - if he is surrounded by others with a cavalier attitude to Laws and Rules perhaps he should have a long hard think.

Reports say Tennis Australia told unvaccinated players they may be able to obtain a temporary exemption if they had recovered from COVID in the past six months, according to a leaked letter.

Talk about covering your own ass

However, the federal government released a letter showing it wrote to Tennis Australia in November saying that a previous COVID infection was not necessarily grounds for exemption in Australia, as it is in some other countries.

I would have thought that it's ultimately up to the individual to make sure they're in compliance with immigration law.

A country is exercising its right to allow people in.

Anyone with half a neuron can probably work out that Tennis Australia is not a government body in charge of immigration. Let alone someone with the resources to get professional advice on such matters.

Australia is a sovereign nation and can set its own laws. Don't like it, don't come.

"Reports say Tennis Australia told unvaccinated players they may be able to obtain a temporary exemption if they had recovered from COVID in the past six months, according to a leaked letter.

Talk about covering your own ass

However, the federal government released a letter showing it wrote to Tennis Australia in November saying that a previous COVID infection was not necessarily grounds for exemption in Australia, as it is in some other countries.

Sky news!!!!!

Says he tested positive on Dec 16th.

He was then at a couple of events on the 16th and 17th. What a guy."

Yeah I saw that.

"So, the Australian Government wants to protect its citizens.

That makes them a dictatorship?"

That raises an interesting point, if indeed Australia has a democratically elected dictatoship.

What kind is it?

constitutional, counterrevolutionary, or fascist?

I didnt think a thread on this forum could take such an intellectual twist. Certainly not what you find on twitter or FB

"He filled in all the paperwork and followed the rules and they said ok, then arrested him and locked hin up. Showing all the people this is what happens when you're not jabbed, it's adisgusting shame on them just kick him out you have scared the people enough now.

Who said OK?you can not enter Australia without permission so someone said he could. "

He's got the wrong visa that's why he can't enter Australia. You can be granted a visa to enter a certain country but if you get to the immigration side and they find our you're on the wrong visa then you won't be allowed in it's that simple

Fully respect his right to refuse to be jabbed (I did get mine for reference), but every choice we make in life comes with consequences. It does appear (like others) he wants to have his cake and eat it.

His choice - no jab

Australia's choice - not to let him in to play.

In the end he's made the choice for himself. He knew their take on it, but instead of just having the good grace not to go he's decided rules don't apply to him and has spat his dummy out. As for saying he's a "prisoner in his hotel" that's simply pathetic.

Get jabbed and play, or don't get jabbed and don't play. It shouldn't be anything more complicated. Personal choice is still there for all. It's no different to some club owners insisting on people being jabbed, while others only want a negative test - their choice should be respected too.

He's not under arrest, he's under quarantine until its settled. He could choose to leave anytime. That doesn't qualify as being 'under arrest'. He's chosen to be a jumped-up tosser who thinks he's above their rules - simple. It doesn't matter whether any of us agree with those rules or not - if we don't accept them we don't get to visit. He has a choice not to get jabbed and they have a choice not to allow him in. No big drama unless you're an immature crybaby.......which he is.

"They may have an exemption to play in a tennis tournament but they do not pass the entry requirements of the country where the tennis tournament is being held, is how I read it.

Ultimately national laws will prevail. It's right that countries keep out undesirable people, especially if they pose a danger to others.

Haha that's funny. The implication that he's undesirable or a danger to others. This pandemic has caused many people to lose perspective entirely.

Let him in or don't let him in it's their choice on whatever rules they choose. It's a bit of sport at the end of the day.

Of which all the England cricket team has to abide by to enter Australia for the ashes…

So why one rule for one sport and one rule for another!"

Bet the English cricket wish they didn’t get in to Australia either.

French magazine, L'Equipe, did a photoshoot with ND on December 18th, two days after his lawyers claimed that he tested positive.

Either the ND party is lying about the positive test, or ND has chosen to totally ignore the positive test and carry on regardless.

Either should see him sent home immediately.

It’s was quite convenient timing to have tested positive in the first place, I smell a rat.

I agree with this.

I'd think he just believes hes above the rules and he has shown this time and time again.

Precisely this.

Privileged person believes they're above the rules. Tries to rally supporters around his blatant disregard for the law of a country. Supporters don't realise that this campaign does not mean that the rules will stop applying to them.

I think a lot of the initial outrage came from people assuming he had a medical exemption from having the vaccine.

Doubt it. At first he denied Covid existed (so now claims he has been infected twice by a virus that doesn't exist?).

He and his Mrs are both rampant anti-vaxxers, not just vaccine refusers.

I don't know. I know that a lot of what I've seen has been the usual detached from reality nonsense. Australia has fallen trending on Twitter, for example.

Australia has had robust vaccine mandates for decades. That they would extend that to Covid and immigration policy (which has grown increasingly fascist for 20+ years, vaccines aside) is utterly unsurprising. The idea that this has any implications about Australian democracy is... unhinged.
