"I think there have been many people who are "high functioning" trauma victims (possibly low level but still dmaanging trauma) and who have found ways of coping .... However covid has taken them over the edge. It's like having a bath with a tapnaliways on, but instead of fixing the tap, a escape pipe has been drilled to stop it over flowing. It's almost full but not spilling. And someone has turned a new tap on. So water is now escaping. " Oh believe you me, that time when it'll spill is coming . It'll be an explosion and it ain't gonna be pretty

"It definitely seems to be a thing It’s definitely a ‘thing’ but unfortunately the alternative would have been far worse For who? For everyone What alternative?" No lock downs, no limits on human to human contact etc etc, don’t get me wrong, the governments response to this pandemic has been pathetic and slow

"People need to stop being snowflakes with mental health issues due to covid...ridiculous. you think people in developing countries have those first world issues? try thinking about other people who have real hardships." No, their problems have just been added to by making first world economies poorer, given that third world countries heavily rely on donations for their poor and sick And snowflake?! when you have serious mental health issues?! Get a fucking grip!!!

I agree, but I can’t see an alternative to lock downs etc which has probably been the main reason for mental health issues, I am happy to be proved wrong though

I don't have the energy to argue. Oh, I forget, he wears a tinfoil hat.

"People need to stop being snowflakes with mental health issues due to covid...ridiculous. you think people in developing countries have those first world issues? try thinking about other people who have real hardships." What a ridiculous comment! Hardship depends on many things. Yes, there are people in this world who suffer on a daily basis for all sorts of reasons. Famine, war, poverty, oppression... How does that change anything for us? If you lost everything in your life and was living in the streets, would you be thinking "oh well, I'm still better off than millions of people in the world" and go skipping down the road with a smile on your face? No. You'd be horrified, terrified and completely reliant on others to even survive. Also, what an irrelevant comment. Lockdowns in this country have neither caused or been caused by people in developing countries. Anyway. The actual purpose of this post. Yes. I've been really concerned right from the first lockdown about this. Mental health always seems to be the last problem to be dealt with. So when peoples freedom is taken from them and all they're hearing on the news is how many people are dying from an invisible illness that anyone of us could have and not even know, it's bound to cause massive mental health issues. Then, at the end of their captivity they're going out, trying to take up where they left off and don't even realise that they're behaving differently as a result of what they've been through. Do all that a few times and it's really gonna fuck with people heads. This bullshit has affected me big time, and even though you might not realise it yourselves, it's affected you too

"Am I the only one sat here thinking that I feel no effect from this pandemic as in I just get on with things and follow rules set in place for everyone. No mental pressure here Maybe I’m just detached from it all ? Too maybe people moan about losing Christmas or not being able to go to clubs restaurants ect and all I think is there are always some others who have it a lot worse than our silly little fist world problems " I agree. I actually enjoyed the lockdown - so peaceful.

Many have lost their lives through suicide during lockdown due to isolation, lost their homes and businesses due to lockdown. Well done you though

Where you furloughed at all? Have you been working from home for 2 years? Have you not had the opportunity to see family for 2 years? Do you live on your own? Did you have to home school whilst trying to work? Have you lost anyone close to you (parent/grandparent/sibling) due to covid? Do you have an elderly relative in a care home?

The toughest hardship you have faced is still the toughest regardless of how much anyone else has faced. Stay strong.

"7 day average C 60,000 Day 0 60,000 1% = 600 ICU beds Day 2 120,000 1200 ICU beds Day 4 240,000 2400 Day 6 480,000 4800 Day 8 960,000 9600 Day 10 1,920,000 19200 Day 12 3,840,000 38,400 Day 14 7,680,000 76800 Day 16 15,360,000 153,600 Context there are around 100000 ICU beds in the UK. (physical bed spaces) so in just over two weeks there is the potential to completely overwhelm every physical critical care bed in the UK, displacing elective critical surgery and emergency care capacity it effects everyone. The potential for disaster is huge here. Most of us can not remember what it is like to not be able to access emergency services if we need them. This situation is not about bozo the fucking clown or his political ramblings this is about self preservation of you and yours. There is a huge shortage of ICU staff medical and nursing. To train as an ICU practitioner takes years of post grad education and experience with close supervision from an experienced ICU person. Add to that the number of us who are broken or close to breaking the shortage is worsening by the day. Having been through this I'm off the frontline before it absolutely kills me. "

Not having that tactile connection with people, no hugs no kisses, death of my stepfather where I couldn't even comfort my mom during the funeral. All these things cause irreparable harm. Deaths of loved ones where they have been in hospital and you've not been able to be there. All horrific. I could go on and on. If you have never suffered from MH problems I don't think you can fully understand the gravity of the feelings and impact involved.

"The folk in prison never had a lock down and no mh issues." No mental health issues in prison? Sad to say the absolute opposite is true. And that's before we get on to Covid, where there was definitely a lockdown, with prisoners confined to cells for 23 hours a day and no visitors for months on end...I'm sure it will have exacerbated MH issues already being suffered.
