Below is an interesting article I first saw on the news the other day and thought I would post it here for others to have a look at as it's quite an interesting idea and could change mask designs somewhat. And it was developed right here in the UK by scientists and engineers at Lincoln university.

It looks like an interesting innovation, I hope they manage to patent and get it to market in time in sufficient quantities to make an impact. I imagine its success will also depend on how much it is going to cost but it sounds like it could be useful especially for health care workers etc.

"Japanese researchers have designed a mask that glows fluorescent when covid is detected on the mask. "

That's an interesting one maybe combine the two ideas in one

"Japanese researchers have designed a mask that glows fluorescent when covid is detected on the mask. "

So, oxymoronically, there's no point in wearing it unless it glows....

Huh? How do you figure that out?

Do you know that maybe as many as one in three people who have C19 might be asymptomatic, meaning if everyone wore one of these, there is huge potential to track, and stop the spread.

Everyone should wear a mask in any public arena/situation, and if everyone did we could slow down, and stop this pandemic.

It's a fabulous story Go Lincoln U!

On a side note I saw, lower down, their new premises and wondered if they could also invent a new lawn-mower lol. (TIC)

How is it going to affect ardent anti-maskers?

I think the answer is 'not at all'

Hopefully in the almost 10 years since that article was posted someone has cut that back, of not there may even be whole new undiscovered tribes living in it lol

Maybe it will change the opinions of those that don't belive masks of any benefit due to lack of filtration maybe it won't, to be honest I am beyond caring about those that don't belive in real science, if they want to get on with it they can, and for those that belive the whole pandemic is just a scam by every government the world to grab control over the population they will eventually find out for themselves weither they were right or wrong. This post was to highlight the advances in mask design that are of importance to those of us that want to use them.

Actually I belive they were looking into mass manufacturing possibilities here in the uk but what's wrong with sharing scientific breakthroughs with other countries? Especially in the middle of a world wide pandemic surely the more countries that had access to the design the more people it would protect from the virus thereby limiting transmission options and hopefully reducing the chance of mutations occurring in the virus?

Have they released any costings for it yet? I would be interested to know how much they would be as like you say if it was too expensive it would make it somewhat prohibitive for the general public but at the right cost that would change, the other thing would be its reusability.
