Christmas restrictions

The figures for infections are starting to go up both here and abroad.

The government are panicking by throwing jabs out everywhere.

They want heard immunity but sooner rather than later the press will hit the "we are all doomed button".

Will there be further Christmas restrictions or not?

No and so all of us.

This is now getting out of hand. Get vaccinated and shut up!

A Xmas party is planned but I'm not enamoured with the idea. In the current climate it seems especially risky. And for what ? To see people I speak to every day virtually, to eat over-priced food that I can cook better myself at home, and to worry that I'm subjecting myself and my loved ones to the virus ?

Fun = 0. Risks = Many.

The emergency Plan B didn't get introduced, so I assume that it is Plan C, after this week's changes in England. Johnson m, under the direction of his ultra right wing backbenchers isn't to remove any more liberty, so I assume that plan could be brought in after Christmas.

Meanwhile, those who are fuelling the higher level of infections, are giving the breeding grounds for higher mutations levels and preventing hospitals and the NHS from dealing with other health problems and the backlog. I couldn't sleep at night if I wasn't doing everything that I can do to reduce infection levels, serious illness and deaths.

Well I've had 3 now. So far escaped it. The government should be ashamed of themselves and go hang their selfish heads in shame. How dare they preach to the masses then platantly have Xmas parties. Its making a mockery of the poor people who have lost their lives to this dreadful virus. Everyone has a part to keep the human race going. We all need to do our bit. If you choose not to thats yours and your conscience perrogative and live with the consequences as you can. I do what I need to do for my family and myself and hopefully those around me. Sadly that is not the case for all. Does the vaccine work? Who knows. Figures and statistics can only tell . But without it how many more would have died. Have it or don't have it again everyones individual choice. Wishing everyone good health and stay safe

Absolutely spot on! Not saying the politicians have handled things well, but blaming everyone you can while being irresponsible yourself is the height of hypocrisy and an excuse to do as you please, with zero respect for the NHS. As for the hospitalisations the NHS have said themselves that the vast majority who are getting ill enough to be admitted now are predominantly those who refuse to be vaccinated. Surely that says something, without bringing the politics into it?

Actually the number of fully vaccinated people ending up in hospital is very small and most of those are vulnerable due to age or other conditions. In the hospital my daughter works in they have admitted over 600 covid patients in the last two months, only 21 of those were fully vaccinated and 15 of those 21 went home within 48 hours. The story of the unvaccinated is very different - over 20 deaths and average stay in hospital more than 10 days ??. Currently every Covid patient in the hospital on a ventilator bar one is unvaccinated.

Vaccinations don't 100% stop you getting covid they reduce the symptoms and hence the deaths or long hospital stays. I've had all 3 of my jabs and will have another if deemed needed. I'm an asthmatic so the though of being on a ventilator again is not something I'm wanting to do.... #jabmeup

Kids were off school from mar 2020 (1st wave) until after the summer holidays.

Kids were off from Dec 2020 until March 2021 (2nd Wave).

The cases per 100k in the 0-9 age group is lower than every age group from 20-29 up to 50-59....because they were off school.

I don't think a stay at home order will be given any time soon. If restrictions are tightened they will most likely be on hospitality as this as been done a number of times, shutting earlier or reducing the amount of people indoors and at tables.

If that was the outcome how does your "we'll do as we please" statement fit in to that?

One thing I don’t get is that at the moment you can go to a club with 2-300 people in shouting, hugging and whatever else. Get kicked out at 2am, go to the local 24 hour supermarket which is empty of people apart from the staff and you have to put a mask on by law.

I limiting the amount of people in buildings like supermarkets etc would be a good way to go. Not going to be easy with Christmas though.

There has been no restrictions on hospitality trade without Furlough to back it up.

Furlough was not just for the hospitality trade but I get your point. A restriction would be uncomfortable for those in hospitality and I would think any restrictions would be damaging. However I could see this happening for a short period of 2 - 4 weeks to pull things back in if needed, but only as a last resort.

Infection rates going up isn't actually an issue if it's a mild strain.

What matters is how many people are getting seriously ill and how many hospital beds are being taken up. That doesn't appear to be anywhere near as bad as last time, and that was the reason for the last lockdown.

I think masks and distancing is all we will see.

It's because it's not about you.

If you or I decide to go to the club, then fair enough, but going to a shop is something some people have to do.

So wearing a mask is to help protect those people that are trying to keep a little more protected from the virus.

Basically, it's a nice socially responsible behaviour.

In some ways yes, but when I see people wearing masks they seem to think they're bullet proof and break the social distancing element

Compare that to the wide berth people who don't wear masks get and the social distancing is adhered to

Interesting. My observations have been totally the opposite.

People who wear masks seem to recognise the virus exists still and are the ones aware of distancing and people who don't wear them seem to think the virus has totally gone away and there is no need to do anything.

People's behaviour does sound like it varies across the country though, so both our observations may be correct.

I have a feeling however, that those people not giving space wouldn't have given it no matter if they had a mask or not.

"In some ways yes, but when I see people wearing masks they seem to think they're bullet proof and break the social distancing element

Compare that to the wide berth people who don't wear masks get and the social distancing is adhered to"

Thats interesting. Why would unmasked people care enough about social distancing, but not enough to wear a mask? Surely those engaging in social distancing are doing so because the accept it is a working mechanism to prevent the spread of the virus, so why not wear a mask as well?

Manchester (she/her)

The government can do one.

If further restrictions happen, I'll comply for the same reason I'm curtailing my behaviour now - because it's not about the government, it's about the people around me. Those who need hospital but can't because capacity is stretched with Covid patients. Those who might get long Covid, etc

Sounds a sensible community spirited approach to me. No toys out of the pram here

"People are jabbed up and still getting covid and ending up in hospital.

The quick fix is not working its cost billions in tax payers money and people are still no better off in terms of covid how many more jabs will it take "

Until they have made enough money from jabbing everyone.

"One thing I don’t get is that at the moment you can go to a club with 2-300 people in shouting, hugging and whatever else. Get kicked out at 2am, go to the local 24 hour supermarket which is empty of people apart from the staff and you have to put a mask on by law.

I limiting the amount of people in buildings like supermarkets etc would be a good way to go. Not going to be easy with Christmas though.

In my experience, it's the people in masks who get closest to you in the supermarket. They give people a false sense of security.

I don't think many people think the virus has gone away but equally it is not just hanging around in the air or on shopping trolleys or on packets of crisps, as the people obsessively sanitising everything in shops seem to think. I thought you had to be in close contact with someone for at least 15 minutes to catch COVID? If that's true then wearing a mask in a shop is completely pointless.

"The emergency Plan B didn't get introduced, so I assume that it is Plan C, after this week's changes in England.

Being in a different country is helping … thanks
