YES!

This year was not standard, that's for sure. I had a PCR test with the lurgy and it came back negative.

How bad was the cold this time? It went away, then came back.

Meds used? One after the other!

Aldi own brand

Sudafed

Actifed

Sainsbury's old mixture

Contac 400 (new and NOT improved version)

and another one I can't remember

No they don't. Neither lateral flow or PCR will confuse a cold for covid.

Speak to a virologist. It's their bread and butter, to know this stuff.

Colds and flu have sneezing, covid doesn't.

I do lateral flow tests Monday and Thursday at work. A month a go I had a really bad cold thats just finally almost gone now. Each test came back negative (and tnh I did an extra test on a Tuesday as soon as the cold symptoms started as a precaution).

The longer you avoid having a cold: better hygiene, hand wahing and social distancing, the harder it will hit you next time.

This is basic virus strategy. Updates and regular ones to boot are the only solution.

Wrong.

I asked out of personal experience, friends of mine have tested positive on one type of test but negative on the other. Their symptoms were more aligned to that of a cold.

"Will someone please settle this once and for all.

I don't understand the premise or implication of the question. Of course it will be negative if it's just a standard cold. I take regular tests before business and social events I'm attending to check I'm not asymptomatic, but wouldn't take a test just because i had a winter sniffle, unless i had a sore throat, headache or other obvious COVID symptoms. What's the point of the question OP?

Yes, several times.

I have then had something far worse than a cold and tested positive. If the PCR or LFT tests picked up any virus I'd have had several positives by now.

No test is infallible. Look at pregnancy tests, and their false reading rates, yet people aren't screaming that they're a con

No a lateral flow neither a PCR will confuse a cold for COVID at the start a very small number of lateral flow gave false positives but this was down to faulty tests nothing to do with a cold but it's very rare now

In my experience the lateral flow has quite a short window when you test positive. PCR not so. I would guess you were probably infected a while before you got your positive PCR.

You are perfectly right, as my girlfriend (the reason I started to test myself) started to have mild symptoms Sunday evening however tested positive on lateral just five days later, Friday evening. Next morning we both had the PCR (positive)and I had one more a couple of days later because my laterals were still showing negative.

If you've got symptoms please book a PCR. LFD is only appropriate for asymptomatic testing. Hope you feel better soon. x
