"Yes, isn't it the PCR tests that get confused between colds and covid?" No they don't. Neither lateral flow or PCR will confuse a cold for covid.

"Was this going to be one of those conspiracy threads saying that we all have cold not covid and the tests are giving false positives. " No I simply wanted a yes or no. We can stop the thread now if wanted.

"Will someone please settle this once and for all. Has anybody with a standard cold taken a flow test and its been negative? How would they know it was a standard cold and not covid? " Speak to a virologist. It's their bread and butter, to know this stuff. Colds and flu have sneezing, covid doesn't.

"Yes, isn't it the PCR tests that get confused between colds and covid? This post was sponsored by Karen on Facebook. sounds about right." Wrong. I asked out of personal experience, friends of mine have tested positive on one type of test but negative on the other. Their symptoms were more aligned to that of a cold.

"Will someone please settle this once and for all. Has anybody with a standard cold taken a flow test and its been negative? " I don't understand the premise or implication of the question. Of course it will be negative if it's just a standard cold. I take regular tests before business and social events I'm attending to check I'm not asymptomatic, but wouldn't take a test just because i had a winter sniffle, unless i had a sore throat, headache or other obvious COVID symptoms. What's the point of the question OP?

"Will someone please settle this once and for all. Has anybody with a standard cold taken a flow test and its been negative? " Yes, couple of weeks ago, several times during the week. Just the lurgy.
Reply privately | Reply in forum | Reply +quote |
"YES! This year was not standard, that's for sure. I had a PCR test with the lurgy and it came back negative. How bad was the cold this time? It went away, then came back. Meds used? One after the other! Aldi own brand Sudafed Actifed Sainsbury's old mixture Contac 400 (new and NOT improved version) and another one I can't remember" Bloody hell, I had tea, chocolate eclairs and Kelly's clotted cream ice cream, seemed to work. Oh forgot, an aspirin I found in the kitchen cupboard.

"The longer you avoid having a cold: better hygiene, hand wahing and social distancing, the harder it will hit you next time. This is basic virus strategy. Updates and regular ones to boot are the only solution." Sorry but I’m sure that’s bollox. When I get a few colds in short succession it’s always the second or third that floors me not the first one after a long period of good health!

"I was positive with PCR but negative on laterals. I took two PCR and about 10 laterals just to avoid any errors. I’ve also tested for antibodies, also positive. I didn’t have any symptoms either." In my experience the lateral flow has quite a short window when you test positive. PCR not so. I would guess you were probably infected a while before you got your positive PCR.

You are perfectly right, as my girlfriend (the reason I started to test myself) started to have mild symptoms Sunday evening however tested positive on lateral just five days later, Friday evening. Next morning we both had the PCR (positive)and I had one more a couple of days later because my laterals were still showing negative.

"Yes took on today felt lousy headache sore throat runny nose was thinking it was booster but I wanted to be certain so did a test, which was negative " If you've got symptoms please book a PCR. LFD is only appropriate for asymptomatic testing. Hope you feel better soon. x
