From the land of haribos.

I was watching russell brands new video about it, do you also follow him on his talks about covid? Here is the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnwBTGDCLVQ&t=48s

I have always said that austrailia have been "outrageous" during covid, basically, austrailia want to have new pandemic powers.

Thousands of demonstrators descended on to melbournes central business district on saturday, protesting against the victorian governments new pandemic power and vaccine mandates, people on the street was saying things like "A politician should never have this kind of power", furthermore.....

The legislation as introduced by the andrews government would allow the premier to make an indefinite declaration of a pandemic and state of emergency.

Will it be introduced and why are they so keen to make it indefinite?

Sort of agree with some of the measures but why make it indefinite. Doesn't seem right to me. It must be a right sh*t show over there if someone prefers Boris as a leader.

Shining example of people taking powers given to them in times of emergency then being unwilling to relinquish them afterwards.

I have two friends who moved over there pre-pandemic, both are now in Florida and will return to UK rather than going back to Oz.

Succeed in reducing Covid cases and you get slammed for restricting freedoms, leave freedoms and get slammed for the high mortality rate. Governments can’t really win but the average citizen tends to value lives of their loved ones marginally over moderate restrictions to freedoms

I certainly wouldn't be wanting to make these decisions as it really is an impossible job as you say. I think it boils down to if you believe that everything is a conspiracy with some sort of long term plan to change the world then everything needs to be fought against but if you believe that what governments are trying to do is protect their populations and economies then you accept things on the basis that why would they want to do anything else.

I do have mixed feelings as to the COVID vaccination issue but the point above is most pertinent in that authorities enact legislation often for good reason then use it for a range of previously unintended purposes that restrict personal liberties.

I cite the example of the PTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act), which was used for the first time to arrest an old chap heckling at the Labour Party AGM. Hardly the reason Parliament had in mind.

UK covid deaths per million = 2,147

Australia covid deaths per million = 77

As of today, 85% of the Australian population over 16 are fully vaccinated.

Not sure where people get their news sources from but life here has been incredibly normal since covid started. As backed up by the statistics, the vast majority of the population are pro vaccination
