Think they have accepted that vaccine passports will not convince those who have still not been vaccinated to do so.

"Think they have accepted that vaccine passports will not convince those who have still not been vaccinated to do so."

Probably, it was a very divisive measure with the potential to alienate a lot of people. Also that the vaccine doesn't actually stop people catching and transmitting.

"It’s going through in Scotland unfortunately! "

If as a result scotlands case rates stabilize / go down whilst ours in England shoots up then Boris will likely be forced to bring them in, especially if real pressure is brought upon hospitals in England.

Alternatively if Scotland with vaccine passports follows the same number patterns as the UK who are not using them then it will highlight they are a waste of time and show up the Krankie big time which tbf Boris would love.

It would not necessarily entail the sharing of any medical information. A pass or fail to meet the criteria set by the government, is all that would be needed.

It’s a certainty that the kind of people you would describe as having ‘the social justice warrior mentality’ and being part of the ‘virtue signalling culture’ will show far more personal responsibility, common sense and general social responsibility than the kind of person who thinks the term ‘social justice warrior’ is pejorative.

In the other countries where they've been used successfully, like Israel, they've not had an expiry. As we're still in the first year of vaccination, research evidence is still being gained that would drive such decisions. A bit like general passports, I guess they would eventually give an expiry. As it stands, each day would just show whether someone has a pass to engage with what they want to do, or not.

I'm a bit disappointed.

I've had a vaccine certificate for years and thought I get a shiney new passport.

I'd also like an ID card, feel a bit out using a passport when all other Europeans have a nice card.

Some nutter had made his own ID card by photocopying his passport, shrinking it and sticking through a laminating machine.

He was quite put out when they didn't accept it.

I'd definitely opt for an outdoors event, compared to indoors, with poor ventilation, to keep people safer from respiratory viruses, especially if people retain some distance between themselves and many others.

What is the 'plan B' for COVID this winter?

Sajid Javid has confirmed that the government has a "plan B" in place for over the winter.

He told MPs this will be used if the "pressures" on the NHS become "unsustainable".

Under plan B, the following will be put in place:

The public will be asked to be more cautious concerning COVID

Mandatory vaccine passports will be implemented in certain settings

Compulsory mask wearing will be implemented in certain settings

Work from home if you can could return for a period

However, Mr Javid said the UK should be able to handle another wave of COVID without lockdowns

But where would COVID passports be necessary?

Nightclubs, indoor settings with 500+ people

Festivals, outdoor settings with 4,000+ people

Any setting with more than 10,000 people

This will not apply to weddings, places of worship, funerals and protests

Vaccine passports are part of the governments 'Plan B' for their winter plan

Plan b will take effect if

"If Plan A is not sufficient to prevent "unsustainable pressure" on the NHS, the government says Plan B will be required "as a last resort"

We'll, seeing as the NHS has been under unsustainable pressure every winter I can remember and the government have also refused to release exactly parameters for what they class as unsustainable pressure:

"Plan B could be brought in at short notice as a response to "concerning" data.

Government scientific advisers haven't said exactly what this data would be, but say it's important to keep an eye on:"

Then I've no doubt they'll sneak in passports this way

Temporarily of course

"Presumably he knew the benefits, other than a potential social engagement passport though? "

I know several dozen people who decided to get the vaccine solely so they could go clubbing / go on holiday/cruises. It's blatant coercion, and it works.

Passports are coming. Another lockdown is coming. I can't recall any specific winter where the NHS wasn't "at braking point". The few small businesses left alive are going to take another blow, with too many never coming back.

I dispair at the number of people that read and accept garbage in social media regarding vaccination when neither they nor the people posting the garbage seem to have the slightest understanding of what the vaccine is or what it's supposed to do.

A vaccine helps your body to prepare for an attack by a virus which it hasn't seen before and will enable your bodys immune system to attack and destroy the virus.

The vaccine is not an invisible force field that repels the virus, your body cannot deal with the virus until you actually become infected and there is a virus present in your body to attack.

The vaccine is meant to prevent you becoming seriously ill and according to the figures being published in almost every country in the world it is doing it's job as the infection/death ratio is much lower than before the vaccine.

You also have to understand that while your body is fighting the virus it's very likely you will be able to pass the vurus to other people but the risk is reduced as you may have a lower viral load.

You also need to understand that the vaccine is not 100% effective and that means that it will not protect everyone, in fact maybe 10 in every 100 who get infected will unfortunately get sick and that's why the more people who take the vaccine the better.

As for the booster, after a period your immune system is busy doing other things and will "forget" the vaccine it received and needs a booster.

This applies to all vaccines that we have during our lifetime and not just Covid.

Unfortunately this doesn't fit with the agenda of some people but it is the truth take it or leave it.

It takes years to have a tried and tested vaccine but they have produced one in under a year?.. No idea what the long term effects will be.. Doesn't stop people catching or passing on this covid shite... Need a booster every 6 month... Doesn't sound like an ideal solution to me!!

Oh and if you don't get vaccinated then you can't attend certain events.... Discrimination.

And no I won't be getting any vaccine/ boosters or anything else that they want to offer me... I'm fine the way I am

The sars-cov-2 virus is a positive-sense, single-strand genome. It acts as messenger rna on entry into a cell and is directly translated into viral protein by the cells ribosome.

Yes, a standard inactivated-virus vaccine would also work. The problem is that these present very low effectiveness in older people and those who are immunocompromised. As low as 20% in the old. By contrast, the mRNA vaccines have a demonstrated effectiveness of almost 100% in practically every person. Flu vaccines effectiveness also wanes with time.

I'm fine the way I am "

If there was no vaccine as you would rather it took years to produce it.

We would be looking at an additional 100k deaths.

Whilst anti vaxers are a noisy bunch, there would have been riots had our government been the only government in the world to reject the vaccine and just let people die with no protection.

That would not be a conspiracy it would be a dereliction of duty and potentially criminal behaviour by a government.

"Some people do talk out of their asses "

All who talk in the sense of knowing “the truth” and believe what they say to be 100% truth are shit talkers.

If there’s anything any one could know for certainty it would be “the self” who or what you are!

What amazes me is that no one has actually realised that while they talk about implementing plan B and covid passports the reason they keep saying that the NHS may come under undue pressure is because of flu, other respiratory viruses and the sickness bug all that are on the rise because of lockdowns and people having not had them last year. So covid passports is a complete load of crap it’s just another way to try and demonise those that have choose to / can not have the vaccine.

I feel the passport is almost inevitable, given the state of things now - workload of the NHS, university going back, schools, going back to the office, mitigations or lack thereof, more people going indoors as the weather cools down.

but if 90% of the population is vaccinated and thefore will not be ill enough to need hospital treatment why is it a problem. That means that roughly only 5 mill over the age of 16 people in this country are unvaccinated and with any logic needed with the numbers being thrown at us atleast 25% of those unvaccinated will have already had covid. So actually there shouldn’t be a need for a covid passport. If the NHS is going to be put under pressure due to othe health issues and such then they should be addressed not attack the 5 million in vaccinated

I disagree.

Further lockdowns and passports will do little to manage this disease.

Either they need to upgrade the vaccine to make it more robust and effect or we keep our immunity topped up by regular contact with this virus.

The vaccine has allowed us to meet this vaccine with a reduced risk. What will a passport or further lockdown do to build our resilience.

It depends on the data on transmission that's being observed, and the circumstances under which a passport might apply.

You are able to transmit it regardless of your vaccination status. Less or more it doesn't really matter as it varies from person to person.

Yes, it's true that transmission is possible.

I do struggle to believe that the average rate of transmission from vaccinated and asymptomatic people can be anything like the transmission rate from unvaccinated moderately ill people. Less or more really does matter when determining policies for populations not individuals.

Stockport

Whatever measures the government take will have no basis in science or logic, purely in self-interest and personal greed. In other words, exactly the same as every single other thing this government has ever done. Occasionally the government actions will happen to align with science, sometimes they will accidentally be the right thing to do. They will however NEVER be done because they are the right thing, or because of any interest protecting the people who live here.

They will use vaccine passports if it gives a convenient distraction from the ongoing public health failures caused by their process of decision making based on only two criteria: how they could best cream money out of the public purse into their own pockets, and how to stay in power. Nothing else has ever mattered to this government.

Vaccine passports will be used just as a way of showing that they are doing _something_ regardless of whether it makes the slightest bit of sense.

Im unvaccinated and had covid. You know how many people I infected and potentially killed? ZERO (I know, shocker)

Staying at home when you're sick is a thing you know...

If instead of bringing in these ridiculous "vaccine passports" the government would invest the money into sick leave payment - maybe minimum wage workers would have a choice of staying at home when Ill and not going out to work and spread any germs they have.

I applaud you for doing the right thing regards staying at home . I agree there needs to be better sick cover to encourage others to do the same but there will always be plenty that won’t stay home. Again you personally may not have transmitted to anyone but statistically speaking, within the wider population, there will be 1000’s if others in exactly the same scenario as yours who did. Policy making is about populations not the individual. Note I’m not a fan of vaccine passports, neither am I a fan of widely vaccinating under 16’s

"How long are they giving the effects of the vaccination to stay in the system. If efficiency wears off after 6 mths and only the vulnerable get a third jab will that make everyones passports null and void anyway and everyone is back at square one when their six months is up. "
I think that is basically the case in Israel right now. If you’ve not had a third jab after 6 months of having had the 2nd you covid pass is suspended

"at the start of covid they said it would take 2/3 years to develop a vaccine and 2/3 years to trial it and with in 6/8 weeks we had a vaccine we are on a mass trial of these jabs till 2023 no one knows how long they give protection for as they are even a years worth of data for them "

It is so amusing how people are suddenly so concerned about the contents and testing of medicines, none of them were the slightest bit concerned prior to being told by facebook that they needed to be concerned about these vaccines.

The truth is: When the pandemic started, some said "it would take 2/3 years to develop a vaccine and 2/3 years to trial it", where as scientists who work in the field of developing vaccines said "If you fund us properly, we can produce vaccine candidates to test in a fraction of that time", and "There are ways to carry out the testing process quicker if we don't have to wait approval before you release the funding for the next stage".

Contrary to Facebook opinion, there wasn't just one vaccine suddenly ready to be rolled out. There were dozens of different "Vaccine candidates" conceived and tested by each of the teams working on them. Many of which proved to be ineffective or problematic and didn't pass initial testing. The best of their initial "designs" progressed to the next stages of testing until they had the "Best option" from their collection of candidates...

The initial testing of all of the (13) currently approved vaccines started back in the first quarter of 2020, and continue to collect data from their trial subjects... plus data from the real world vaccine roll-outs.

There are also FOUR different vaccine technologies used between the different available jabs, not just the (30 year old) New Technology that is "mRNA Vaccines"...

Yes it is true that the life span of the protection isn't known, but that is because the initial test subjects are still showing some levels of protection well over a year after their inoculation. What we do know though, is that the protection is better than zero protection, which is what you get from not getting jabbed.

This is the issue for 12 months everytime a restriction was put in place for public safety purposes, people started shouting wake up they are taking your freedoms.

But as each restriction have been lifted or in this case not put in place those same people don't come back and admit they were wrong and it was not a wider conspiracy, just a temporary measure.

I do think it would be beneficial for all uk citizens to do a 3 month stint in another country to truly understand what freedoms we have and how Liberal we are as a society compared to the rest of the world.

"I dispair at the number of people that read and accept garbage in social media regarding vaccination when neither they nor the people posting the garbage seem to have the slightest understanding of what the vaccine is or what it's supposed to do.

I'm fine the way I am at the start of covid they said it would take 2/3 years to develop a vaccine and 2/3 years to trial it and with in 6/8 weeks we had a vaccine we are on a mass trial of these jabs till 2023 no one knows how long they give protection for as they are even a years worth of data for them "

noone has chucked quote as much money and resource into a vaccine as this. Companies started to build the means of prediction while also building the vaccine. That's unusual. So while this all feels quick, that didn't mean in itself corners have been cut.

In terms of long term safety, I asked myself: do I know what the long term issues if catching Covid are, even if I get through the original illness relatively easily? I don't. But anything that fucks up the lungs would worry me

Couldn't agree more, all the idiots screaming that we are turning into north Korea or living in a dictatorship really have no clue just what the people of a country like that go through compaired to the huge amount of freedom we have in this country. People in the UK don't "vanish" for having an opinion that goes against the state or have access to outside news and media controlled by the government or internet access limited to "state approved" sites. I won't even get started about some people's understanding of the implications of a WORLDWIDE pandemic or vaccines

It's a case of: if you have had the vaccine you are less likely to need a hospital bed. So those who are making an effort not to be a drain on the NHS are free to live their lives but the people who think they are entitled to a night out at the expense of using that bed and taking it from someone who needs it through no fault of their own can jog off. The government needs to protect our resources.

In this logic may be those who made an effort to get covid and be asymptomatic or get it/ recover should get browny points, most being 6-13 times more protected than the vaccine through natural immunity .

How would the passports work. Wales has said that to get a passport to go to clubs you need to be either double vaccinated or have taken a lateral flow test with 48hrs.

Thinking logically how can they police that. Lateral flow test are reported on trust therefore what is to stop somebody who is anti-vax from getting a free NHS lateral flow package taking one of the test and reporting it as negative without actually taking it.

But then it becomes discriminatory. You would have to make the testing element either a PCR test or done in a centre at which point it fails to be cost effective. I suspect in a couple of months they will quietly drop the whole thing rather like England has because in my view it is unworkable unless you are prepared to spend a lot of time, effort and more importantly money to ensure it is effective.

Who would have thought two years ago that in the event of a life threatening disease sweeping across the world, there would be people deliberately circumventing rules intended to keep everyone healthy? That when provided with the availability of a free, fast, simple method of checking if they might be carrying the disease and might pass it along to others, they might not just refuse to use it, but might deliberately falsify results? And that these would be just ordinary people, not terrorists on some kind of suicide mission or psychopaths with a hatred of humanity? Crazy isn't it! Unbelievable!

If anti vaxxers (or vaccine hesitant, or noble freedom fighters, or whatever) want to proclude those who aren't vaccinated from events, showing the flaws in test or vaccinate is exactly how to do it.

Yeah kind of... But you can apply that thought process to pretty much anything... Exams and cheating... ID papers... Self check out at supermarkets.... People will cheat and lie. Its why when you design a system / process to ensure people's well being and health in the middle of an epidemic spreading across the world... That you design the process well and remove as many opportunities for it to be bypassed as possible.

A few years ago I had to take a test. Government related.

Apparently the cheating system was so bad that they confiscated my jacket, frisked me, made me lift my clothing, ran their fingers inside my underwear, and inspected my glasses for devices.

I had to go through that indignity because apparently people can't be trusted. Was I cheating? God no.

If people try to break the system, the system will just be made more punitive. We'll all suffer for it.

So if people make the decision not to have the double jab that's fine but if they catch it and have to go into hospital they should have to fund this themselves.

Why should people how have been responsible and had the double jab pay for it.

But it is discrimatory as has been proven in a number of cases now because not everybody can have the vaccine. Currently they have not come up with a simple way of not discriminating against them hence why there has been constant discussions in Parliment and the media about it. I am not disputing that I my view it shouldn't be but currently there are plenty of lawyers and people prepared to take to the law courts to prove it is discriminatory.

This is why the exemption category exists.

Those who can't won't be excluded. Those who won't - not a protected class.

So, not discrimination.
