"When the shops were being raided for long shelf life foods and people were googling what grit of sandpaper would damage their arsehole the least... There was one group of people all over the world, who have been ridiculed and called crazy for years, sat at home, watching the madness unfold whilst munching on an MRE... Preppers. Have you ever thought they were crazy, and if so has your thinking changed since? " I don’t consider myself a prepper but I do keep enough food in that I would probably not go hungry for a few weeks if necessary. The systems we base our lives around are, and increasing, very fragile.

Common sense would be not to become entirely reliant on the national grid for providing 100% of ones energy needs for heating, eating and transport. The future is going to be electric but I will ensure I have off grid backup solutions for all three!

" They are people constantly expecting the worst and living their lives in fear. Whenever you see them on YouTube or tv programmes they always seem to have fallen hook line and sinker for nonsense conspiracy theories about the United Nations or a secret cabal of ‘globalists’. My opinion hasn’t changed because I am the least prepared person I know and I didn’t run out of a single thing.

"My thinking hasn't changed, I still think all those people who panic bought and stripped the supermarket shelves bare are crazy, selfish and stupid." This is precisely why being prepared for such events is the sane, generous and smart thing to do!

But, being prepared for natural events in some way I do believe is quite a good idea

If people had kept calm everything would of been fine. To see elderly people and shift workers have to go without was terrible, I wonder how many of those who stripped the shelves whilst nurses and doctors were at work also clapped for the NHS that night? And then there was the mountain of food waste left rotting in bins instead of going to food banks

The end is nigh but exactly when is nigh is much harder to pinpoint.

"My only regret in regards to prepping is I didnt stockpile lucozade before the sugar tax. Lucozade used to be the yummiest nicest thing ever. Now it's just grim " I completely agree!

I have met many people over the years who've peered down the rabbit hole myself included, my warning is don't look, it's much harder to get out of than you imagine.

"I put preppers in the same category as those who invest in assets for their financial future and retirement. They're planning ahead, and you can't fault them for it. It's how us Europeans survived for thousands of years, storing food away for the winter months or for times of famine and drought. Sure, you can rely on the government for a pension. Sure, you can rely on the government for food and medicine. But what happens when that government no longer wants to pay you money, or give you food, or medicine? Where do you go from there? And before you say "That's impossible!!!", I invite you take a look at the history of empires over the last 2,000 years, and how the peasants are treated in times of hardship." Cool story, bro.

"I think people prepping for zombies are still a bit weird. On the other hand I think people that haven't prepped at all are a little stupid." I laugh but one medical lab mishap and you never bloody know

Many attribute conspiracy theories to preppers, and there are definitely ct preppers, but one event that could very easily happen and devastate half of the globe instantaneously is a solar flare. I'm not sure that anyone however hard they try can be prepared for that level of chaos, but, at least they are trying.

"We didn't but frightened our neighbours into buying loads of stuff. When armageddon comes, will break into their house, pinch all their bog roll, eat all their pringles and then eat them and just prolong our inevitable descent into starvation and madness, but at least we'll end our days with fresh clean bottoms. "
