Is PCR the actual test at a test centre?

Mother in law tested positive, double jabbed. Saw her at the weekend, almost positive I have it too, done a test today.

Tired, funny taste in my mouth (which I'm not sure is right as you lose your taste?!), Just feel "off".

A friend and his wife, both second jab in April. Still both bed ridden with covid for the last 6 days. Hopefully the jab will do it’s job and I dread to think how they may have been if not vaccinated.

I've currently got covid, (unjabbed) funny taste in mouth sounds right. Certain foods & drinks taste weird /gross such as coffee. Others just don't taste of much. I've got almost no sense of smell and miss it way more than I thought I would. My mum's got it too, she's double jabbed and has had all the typical symptoms - fever/chills, achy, tired, hacking cough.

Here and There

I had Covid at the start of July. I was double jabbed months before.

Days 1-6 I had a slight cough, slightly raised temp and just really felt a bit under the weather.

Days 6-12 I was increasingly poorly. Couldn’t keep temp under control, cough was terrible and felt like I couldn’t breathe. Got taken by ambulance into hospital on day 11. After assessment my lungs were clear, no other underlying infection. Doc said that days 8-12 are key and I’d either get better in the next day or so or get worse. He felt that because I’d had double jabs I should get better so sent me home. He was right, I was starting to feel better by day 14. Took another week for me to feel well enough to leave the house and a month on I’m still struggling with fatigue. My taste and smell are almost fully back and my cough has just about gone.

Belfast

Unvaccinated and its a day 4 since tested positive.

Clear nose, occasional chesty cough, slight temperature, taste and smell are faint but still there.

First day deep cleaned the whole house, then spent two days in bed reading a book and chilling out, back up on my feet and doing things around the house today as well as working from home.

Looking forward to not having to go anywhere and having some us time with my partner (he tested positive too, but aside from slight fever he's absolutely fine, yes he hasn't got the magic jab either).

We both have been working around people this whole time with zero isolation from external "bugs".

Religiously taking our vitamins, eating healthy home made foods and avoiding take aways or heat and eat ranges of any kid (not our jazz at the best of days), probably drinking a bit too much at times (free unlimited cocktails at home can too tempting).

Think people who have been strictly isolating themselves have kind of shot themselves in a foot because now yes they have a vaccine for covid, but what about the rest of the diseases that their immune system won't be strong enough to fight due to prolonged isolation?

My mam was double vaccinated with Phisa vaccine. She contracted Covid about 4 months after the 2nd vaccine. Unfortunately on the 14th (a week ago) she died.

I've been double vaccinated with the 2nd in July. Astrazenica. On the 10th I started to feel like a mild cold. On the 13th I tested positive with lateral flow test. Tested positive with PCR test the day after.

Today I tested negative on a lateral flow test. The Covid app is still showing 4days of self isolation.

Had my 2nd jab last month and woke up with a runny nose and flu like symptoms on Friday morning. Thought I’d do a LFT just in case and it was positive. Went for a PCR and got confirmation I’m positive so 10 days of isolation.

All I have thankfully is flu like symptoms with headaches and higher than normal temperature, just used paracetamol to sort myself out. Day 3 and I feel 90% myself

Interesting, double vaccinated, can travel much more freely can attend large events and swinging clubs not needing to show a Covid test, only a “vaccine passport” yet still able to transmit it to each other……

Just pointing at the obvious, it give those at risk a false sense of security, those vaccinated, and this is very dangerous, like saying masks protect you, data is also showing that protection drops off over a period of 9 months ….. re vaccination is looking likely.

Anyone who thinks winter will not be as severe as the last, may and should think again, we saw a drop off last summer before it got reportedly severe…

Being vaccinated reduces the risk of transmission. I’m double vaccinated and caught covid. My 2 children, one who shared some of my drink did not catch it from me

That’s what worries me- reduces risk, but there is risk, expand on “reduces” I don’t think there data out there that shows reduction risk…. Only reduction in severe cases.

Kids are known not to as susceptible to it,

Like saying the risk is Less if you have to jump out of a building from 30th floor rather 40th floors, less of a risk of severe injury…. You get it or you don’t you pass it on or don’t,

I’m not sure why it’s called a vaccine …. Look up the meaning of vaccine lol

Indeed I hope anyone who has had or has or may get makes a full recovery, that is not something we wish on anyone , whatever the thinking behind it or the vaccine.

It remains it has further divided us a nation and as a world.. that’s how it should not be, it’s clear in every thread.

Im not sure that's proof of anything. My sister was sharing a dish with her daughter in a restaurant last October when her daughter said she couldn't taste anything. It was super spicy thai food. Daughter tested positive for covid... nobody in the household (5 others) got infected. Not even her twin sister that shares a bedroom with her.

People seem to forget that your susceptibility to infection depends on a number of factors, not just exposure.

Re: points others have made about vaccination reducing transmission risk.. the evidence for that is looking weaker all the time. Studies in both US and UK indicate there is little difference in virus titres (number of viral particles) present in vaxxed vs unvaxxed covid positive individuals. You can find this via CDC and uk gov.

Tested positive 5 weeks after 2nd Pfizer jab. No symptoms at the time but rest of household had it. Then sneezed for days, fatigue was terrible, bad head. No chest issues but 6 weeks later I get out of breath easier than before and I'm still getting tired. So grateful for vaccine.

there was some evidence that the length of time with high titres reduced quicker for vaccinated. I don't have the source I'm afraid. I agree the jury is still out in the delta virus. But from what I can also see the jury is out on a lot of questions...

There are seeing in Israel now that first people vaccinated in January are now needing the booster as their immunity is as low as 16% they were first to really vaccinate population.

This was through the internet and could be spurious but, once learned to keep an eye out for other local information that agrees or disagrees with it. But a few more seem to be seeing this trend…

Antibodies decline after infection, any infection.

Specific antibodies can be produced very rapidly in response to a new infection, or a re-newed infection.

The current crop of vaccines direct the bodies response to the the receptor binding domain protein, the spike protein, but not to the 28 other proteins present in a covid virus infection. Consequently, the vaccine introduced to the body alerts the immunoglobulin antibodies G and M to the virus....the mucous membranes of the nose and mouth however contain immunoglobulin A...which is a bit of a laggard...so those membranes get infected. Irritatingly, the Chinese vaccines contain whole inactivated virus/viral particles. Theoretically, those treated with that vaccine should have a higher chance of getting infected, but a lower chance of a repeat infection. It's not cleared for use here though.
