That's going to be fun.

We may see a resurgence in the illegal rave scene as bonus though

Perhaps if they restricted things like supermarket entry, medical care.. perhaps you could say that... but it's not like it's not things you can do without.

Check out what is happening in Australia, it's just a total police state. Saw a video yesterday of an elderly man being arrested for not wearing a mask outside. He then proceeded to have a heart attack, while they were dragging him away.

You should check what happened to this Brit in Singapore who is refusing to wear a mask. The court asked for his mental health assessmemt.

We have it easy over here compared to most countries.

They are not stopping anyone doing anything essential like shopping etc but if you want to go to a nightclub or eat out then you need to be vaccinated. It's your choice.

It is also worth bearing in mind it is not just here but also in other countries so if you are not jabbed you can't eat in restaurants or got museums while on holiday (that's if you can even get abroad without a vaccine).

Thats his own fault. If you are in their country you abide by their rules.

A lot of countries dont have mask exemptions so every adult must wear one. If you don't like the rules in a particular place don't go there!

To be fair, they had handcuffed him and were walking away according to the video I saw

No medical apartheid....people who are exempt from vaccination on medical grounds won't have any issues and the rest of us can be vaccinated. If someone chooses not to that's simply their choice and all choices come with consequences, good or bad.

That's actually not true. All most all countries have exceptions however medical proof is needed so there is the difference.

Absolutely.

This is the issue though people making statements and comparing situations that are not even closely comparable.

"An example of Apartheid is a society where white people are considered superior and people of other races are mistreated". Hardly what is happening.

I'm not wrong it is not even an English word it is an Afrikaans word meaning segregation and the definition of segregation in regards to apartheid is being segregated due to your race, cast, educational status or sex I suggest you look at the dictionary definition.

People in this country are not being segregated it is just a lazy way for those that are not vaccinated to try and protest that they are somehow being discriminated against and is appalling to even compare the two.

Anybody that is comparing people that cannot go to a nightclub because they choose not to take a vaccine to the racist segregation that took place during apartheid needs a word with themselves.

Here is the definition - apartheid refers to a political system where people are clearly divided based on race, gender, class or other such factors. Granted the most well known example is the race policies of South Africa

And that is not happening here because those things are things you have no choice over! you do have a choice as to whether you have a vaccine so actually I'm completely right in what I say that what is happening here is not even close to apartheid.

Apartheid is an Afrikaans word!

Over the years other groups who are discriminated or segregated due to of their protected characteristics have started using the word so the original meaning is purely based on race.

"Stolen ...no borrowed from Irish site to share....

By soft_sexy_sweet

An analogy - a seat belt doesn't stop you from getting in a car accident, but it does reduce your chances of getting hurt, or dying, or hurting others in an accident. The more people who wear their seat belts, the fewer deaths and injuries there will be from car accidents, and the injuries that do occur will be less severe. Seat belt = vaccine. Covid = car accident.

Similarly, being vaccinated doesn't eliminate the possibility of transmitting the virus or getting sick from the virus, but it dramatically reduces the chances of both (and the severity of illness), because the vaccine attacks the covid virus and stops it from replicating meaning you have less of it in your system. If you have a low viral load (of any disease) your chances of transmitting it are lower.

Also, vaccination only works effectively on a group level, it's not about individual protection. If enough people are vaccinated, the virus doesn't have the chance to replicate and evolve and get stronger. This is why people don't get polio anymore, for example. It was eradicated through a vaccination programme.

But ultimately the answer to your question is yes - if YOU are not vaccinated, you are more at risk of catching Covid, from anyone. Because you're not vaccinated. Two vaccinated people are incredibly unlikely to pass it between them. So... get vaccinated"

Over 180k tested infections in the last 7 days would beg to differ from that statement.

No that is not the original meaning as has been explained to you several times. Like many words it has been taken over by other groups to mean different things, I dont know how else I can explain this to you.

But it was you that said

The definition of segregation in regards to apartheid is being segregated due to your race, cast, educational status or sex.

Now you’re saying it’s just race "

"I suggest you look up the definition of apartheid before spouting absolute nonsense like that.

Absolutely.

This is the issue though people making statements and comparing situations that are not even closely comparable.

"An example of Apartheid is a society where white people are considered superior and people of other races are mistreated". Hardly what is happening.

Errrrrrr wrong it means any division in society ... not just colour

Ergo substitute white for vaccinated and hey presto you’ve got apartheid

Wrong the definition of apartheid is specifically in relation to race.

Wrong. Keep digging though

Haha. So in an attempt to prove your point you then dispel it:

‘being segregated due to your race, cast, educational status or sex’ Not just race then

I will explain this one last time.

Apartheid is an Afrikaans word!

Over the years other groups who are discriminated or segregated due to of their protected characteristics have started using the word so the original meaning is purely based on race.

Not cast, educational status or sex then?

No that is not the original meaning as has been explained to you several times. Like many words it has been taken over by other groups to mean different things, I dont know how else I can explain this to you.

What's the deal OP?

The country has 2 tools to stop things getting worse.

Vaccines, or

Restrictions

Take your pick? What's your choice?

If you want fewer people dead, or suffering organ damage and failure, brain injuries, long Covid

And you want more people to have better job and income prospects, fewer businesses struggling or folding...

You have vaccines and restrictions to get those achievements.

Which did you choose? Are you doing your best for everyone and the country? Have you demanded freedoms but taken no responsibilities?

We still have choices . Lots of time to get immunity from vaccine doses

So are the people that are against restrictions and safety happy to get tested for STIs ahead of group events? Or is it a case of nobody can tell you what to do?

Quarantine has been the go to answer for pandemics for over 3,000 years. For all the crying and gnashing of teeth this is not the same hardship that people went through in 1918 nor.in smallpox outbreaks. Get some perspective.

In the past they only used to quarantine the sick. Today it's just an epidemic of mental illness that is taking over.

Remember when fauci and the WHO said asymptomatic transmission was almost non existent?

Yes, you're quite correct. The upheaval has caused significant harm to people's mental health. But hopefully with high vaccination rates, and places where the vulnerable can go and be guaranteed to be among safer people, that will gradually abate.

Refusing vaccines and ignoring restrictions will just lead to the epidemic trailing on longer. You cannot fight a virus just by declaring your human rights to it. The longer it does go on, the more the ones who do get jabbed and do obey restrictions will get pissed at the ones that don't, the ones that are keeping the misery going. Either the government will apply increasingly stronger sanctions to the ones causing the problem, or eventually the people will force those sanctions themselves. It's quite a simple choice really. Either do it now. Or sooner or later you will be forced to do it.

No, they actually quarantined cities and districts. They locked down what they could physically hold people in.

They used to out people on islands for 30 days to let any diseases burn out after a long voyage.

It had nothing to do with exactly who was sick or not. It was where there was a risk to the wider community. You would have had to sit your 30 days until the start of the last centuary in some places.

Well the death rate fell off a cliff when they stopped forcing ventilators on people and went back to using more traditional methods.

Basically last year there were 2 papers published in China about how to deal with covid. They said it was too dangerous to let patients breath when sick so they either needed to be sedated and put on a ventilator or put in a negative pressure ward. Most hospitals have very limited negative pressure rooms so ventilators it was.

The issue was this threw out decades of established protocols on how to treat patients with respiratory infections for something with a known high mortality rate. The WHO took these 2 papers and just rolled out this recommendation to all member states.

Nobody is being "forced" to do anything. People are being encouraged to get vaccinated.

Vaccinated people do not have to go to night clubs or travel abroad.

There are conditions to many things in life, if you want to travel to several African or Asian countries, there have always been mandatory vaccinations required. If you want to work in the NHS there have been mandatory vaccines required since the 1970s. If you want to work with children, you will need to be given the all clear by police... do these things all make you a second class Citizen?

It is a question that has been answered... vaccines do not "speed up the rate at which the virus is mutating".

Viruses mutate because they are simple organisms and their cell division is not as accurate as more complex organisms. It is NOT an intelligent act on the part of the virus to circumvent the abilities of a vaccines defences

It'll probably go down, eventually, to levels of most diseases which are notifiable under public health legislation. Public health legislation which includes the power to involuntarily detain those who are suffering such illnesses.

(I have no idea how often that's used or if it's a good thing, but the power existed before Covid)

I mean that it will reduce to insignificant enough levels that it ceases to be relevant. You are right that it is fairly likely to be completely eradicated. So it will "disappear off the radar" rather than literally cease to be.

How very easily we are divided !! and the Political Class have been playing this game for years and here we go again and we've been heading towards this kind of thing for years and covid is just the cover they need to advance it even more and sadly the so called Anti vaxxer are doing the spade work and heavy lifing for them as seeing most Ant vax sites are backed with money from the Right wing lot ??? and of course the cry will soon go up we need less red tape ( workers rights ..enviromental protection etc etc ) to be competive and then it will be the debt levels ....and unvaccinated will used to show why we need tougher laws etc etc and a crack down of freedom of speech ( already going through ) and people for decades have fed the lie that you can whatever you want without conquences and if you choose to not have the vaccination ( apart from genuine medical grounds) you have to be a adult and accept the conquences of not doing so ..

It's not exactly relevant. What happens in the future is not the same as what is happening now. My views about what "I think WILL happen" remain the same... previous pandemics have taken several years to run their course, but that is what they did.

Either do it now. Or sooner or later you will be forced to do it.

Has anyone looked at the data? Basically no one is dying in this 3rd wave. We don't have to live in a medical police state. Viruses are just a fact of life.

We're not living in a 'medical police state'. And you didn't answer the questions posited in my post, which are informative.

It's restrictions and vaccines that we have to reduce the impact of the virus on society. well there’s also the question that actually the vaccine programs are actually speeding up the rate at which the virus is mutating so there’s also a hidden risk there too????"

Whatever you may try to claim, we still just have 2 tools to reduce infections, deaths, disabilities, employment and income losses, long Covid, business and economic damage etc. Vaccines and restrictions. Take your pick. Your choice is?

" How very easily we are divided !! and the Political Class have been playing this game for years and here we go again and we've been heading towards this kind of thing for years and covid is just the cover they need to advance it even more and sadly the so called Anti vaxxer are doing the spade work and heavy lifing for them as seeing most Ant vax sites are backed with money from the Right wing lot ??? and of course the cry will soon go up we need less red tape ( workers rights ..enviromental protection etc etc ) to be competive and then it will be the debt levels ....and unvaccinated will used to show why we need tougher laws etc etc and a crack down of freedom of speech ( already going through ) and people for decades have fed the lie that you can whatever you want without conquences and if you choose to not have the vaccination ( apart from genuine medical grounds) you have to be a adult and accept the conquences of not doing so .."

Whatever games and conspiracies may be claimed, we still have the current problem today. Vaccines or restrictions. Those vaccinated are helping to reduce the dependency on restrictions. You're vaccinated? With each person vaccinated, we're closer to getting far from needing restrictions. There are all kinds of conspiracy theories coming out of the internet, funded largely by enemies - generic antivax individuals earning money from our unrest and ill health, foreign states and others who profit from a damaged society. Whoever they are, getting a higher proportion of the population vaccinated, means that we'll enter the more troubling winter period in a safer, stronger position. Are you encouraging vaccination?

"What's the deal OP?

The country has 2 tools to stop things getting worse.

Vaccines, or

Restrictions

Take your pick? What's your choice?

If you want fewer people dead, or suffering organ damage and failure, brain injuries, long Covid

And you want more people to have better job and income prospects, fewer businesses struggling or folding...

You have vaccines and restrictions to get those achievements.

Which did you choose? Are you doing your best for everyone and the country? Have you demanded freedoms but taken no responsibilities?

We still have choices . Lots of time to get immunity from vaccine doses

And unfortunately having allowed the virus to take hold so much, I fear it will need both vaccines and restrictions in order to get control again.

"That's going to be fun.

We may see a resurgence in the illegal rave scene as bonus though "

Good. There is absolutely no necessity that the unvaccinated cannot obtain nor are their life chances limited other than by their own actions.

If it was something that o ly effected individual health, like taking malaria tablets on holiday, then I would agree. However, it effects society.

I have no problem with voluntary activities being restricted.

There is not way they can police it anyway, just look at the farcical scenes at Wembley for the final, people were being let in with a random screen shot from Google.

"I suggest you look up the definition of apartheid before spouting absolute nonsense like that."

Here is what oxford dictionary says, in case the OP wanted to know.

apartheid

noun: apartheid

(in South Africa) a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race.

segregation on grounds other than race.

It literally translates as apartness.

It is absolutely ridiculous to compare free choice of getting a vaccine or not to apartheid. Just idiotic.

Pretend it’s like Brexit and everything is amazing because you don’t get shot for not being vaccinated.

Some people on this thread need to get a hobby or a job or something.

The “ i am right and i am going to prove it” is a little weird and far from a personality trait that you should be public announcing.

Why cant you converse openly and nicely?

I am off to work, so let the comments begin as i wont be looking at this thread, i dont care.

Just be better humans!

You've got a very twisted view of free choice.

"Check out what is happening in Australia, it's just a total police state. Saw a video yesterday of an elderly man being arrested for not wearing a mask outside. He then proceeded to have a heart attack, while they were dragging him away."
did you follow it through and see it was a false video set up early days of lockdown 1 in Oz....

"Wrong the definition of apartheid is specifically in relation to race. "

To just offer a ‘fair’ view...

Apartheid is actually the Afrikaans word for ‘separateness’ it’s associated with a period of racial segregation but the word itself is used in many ways a good example being an approach of game reserves for purposes of aiding endangered species.

To use it in the context for medicine is very leading and laughable to be honest. To suggest people foolish enough to buy into conspiracy theories and refuse vaccination are not in control of their fate is crazy. It’s the same principle as an NHS staff member refusing their Hep B vaccination losing their job, it’s their choice and to be blunt, fault.
