I’ve received my day 2 and day 8 tests through the post.

Am I able to get the pre- flight test done at the airport or do I get a company near home to do it?

It’s all a bit confusing

Where are you flying to?

Which airport are you flying from?

What time is your flight?

Different countries have different testing requirements.

Some airports have onsite testing but some don't.

If your flight is stupidly early in the day the testing site may not be open, or you might not get the results before your flight.

I’m flying at 3.15 in the afternoon to Greece from Manchester

How much are they charging for these tests now? I'm desperate to get out the country but refuse to buy tests when they cost more than the flight!

Day 2 and day 8 through Randox £84 delivered by courier, free return postage. My results were emailed to me within 24hours.

I second this. Been using Randox for all my work related flights.

Never had an issue and always had the results on time.

Still a lot of hoops to jump through, hoping things get easier by next year.

Preston

£230 for all tests for us, family of three.

1 x pre departure pcr test for the kid.

3 x return lateral flow tests

3 x day 2 pcr tests

Yeah it aint great having to pay the extra but we knew before we booked and have factored it in to the costs.

Used Randox for the pcr tests and Collinson for the return lateral flows.

Plenty of discount codes out there to use, hopefully the costs will continue to drop and fingers crossed the need for them isn't needed forever!

I'd get it done before you get to the airport if you need a PCR, there's a few places on Rodney Street that do them.

We paid for and got day 2 and 8 tests but as we were all double jabbed we didn't need to do the day 8 ones so we got some money back. This was via TUI...doubt Randox will offer refunds

I'm confused about this too! I have looked online and it is as clear as mud in terms of where to get the pre-flight PCR test done here in the UK and where I can get a pre-flight PCR test before a return flight out of destination.

The day 2 test on return, can I use a LFT from the chemist?

I ordered a day two and day eight test from a company recommended on the gov.uk site. As for the ore flight tests, I’m not sure

I have just found out the pre-flight PCR test can be carried out at the the departure airport. If you google Manchester airport Pre flight PCR test, it will take you to the right place.

If you are double-vaxed you don't need a pre-flight test for some Euro countries such as Spain. Not sure about Greece though. Check gov.uk

Don't you have test in Greece too if your unvaccinated? I've just seen a list of countries you can travel to Greece from and not test while in Greece and the UK isn't an on it if you are not double vaccinated.

No I mean from what I've just read although it was a bit confusing there are quite strict restrictions in Greece if you are not vaccinated or from a certain list of countries which the UK isn't on but I could be wrong because it was confusing.

But that's the point I'm not sure you can if you haven't been vaccinated because thats what ive just read you might well find you will have to self isolate in Greece. Definitely need to check what the laws are the for you travel there!

No, you don’t have to self isolate if you have a negative test. There are some restrictions for indoor places like cinemas etc but not to travel to the country.

From gov.uk

If you’re travelling from the UK, you will need:

To have completed a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before arrival in Greece. The form is required regardless of the means of transport you use to travel to Greece (including by ferry, road, rail or air); and

Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, undertaken within the 72 hour period before arrival into Greece; or

Proof of a negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test from an authorised laboratory, undertaken within the 48 hour period before your arrival into Greece; or

Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 days before travel (see Demonstrating your COVID-19 vaccination status);

Greece will also accept proof of recovery from COVID-19. While the NHS does not provide proof of recovery records, evidence of a positive COVID-19 PCR test result taken between 30 to 180 days of your travel dates can be used.

They are doing random tests at the airports, it's normally the person who filled out the plf. If anyone tests positive, the whole party have to isolate. The isolation hotels in Greece are awful, seen some pictures today...

If you download the Visit Greek app, which supports you creating the Passenger Locater Form, it does help you to understand the process and timeframes that are required.

I'm of the view that everyone should test before they travel, we all know we can still be asymptomatic and be carrying the virus. I would certainly test if I were travelling.

Have you checked your travel insurance to make sure it It would cover the cost of isolation if you were to test positive? I thought travel insurance would cover that but a friend has just been abroad and said no they had to take out special covid insurance! It's all just a mindfield isn't it!

I hope whatever happens that you have a good holiday.

Yes I have, and it does. It also reimburses me should I test positive in the uk and have to move my holiday to a later date. I specifically bought insurance that covers these things

I’ll be taking tests with me and testing throughout

Have you checked your travel insurance to make sure it It would cover the cost of isolation if you were to test positive? I thought travel insurance would cover that but a friend has just been abroad and said no they had to take out special covid insurance! It's all just a mindfield isn't it!

I hope whatever happens that you have a good holiday.

Yes I have, and it does. It also reimburses me should I test positive in the uk and have to move my holiday to a later date. I specifically bought insurance that covers these things

Thats good then. "

Yeah, in those circumstances, I’ll extend my holiday by 10 days, luckily I’m good friends with the guy who owns the hotel I’m staying at so could move the date

I heard it on a consumer affairs radio broadcast earlier. Some of the quarantine fees are making a huge increase.

I wondered how much money was being made off these tests. Depressing.

It is.

My understanding is our tests for travel are some of the most expensive in Europe.

Depressingly unsurprising too. Everywhere we turn, it seems there's always somebody around who wants to profit off the pandemic.

That appears to be the case.

I paid £180 for the travel package and it came two days later via a courier

£180 i got the for free!!

During your isolation back home track & trace will most likely call you everyday, they also went to a few others houses and asked to see passports.

My son has been in and out of the country all year and has never had a visit.

No, I’ve never had a visit, neither have the other people I’ve been travelling with

It was because i came back from a red list country

Oh right. I’m not going to a red list country but even if they visited, they’d just see me sitting on my couch haha "

I best come round and check when your back……checkout your white bits

The cost of an accompanying adult sharing a room is more than doubling from £450 to £1430. The government say it is "to better reflect the true costs involved".

That will discourage some from travelling, I guess that's what they are trying to do.

Lots of long haul flights transit at Dubai which yesterday turned from red to amber, opening up a lot of green destinations such as Mauritius. But the worry would be if Dubai turned red again I would need hotel quarantine on entering UK (despite only changing planes in the airport) so a really big risk.
