Colchester

A friend contacted me to say they'd got covid. This friend has been meticulous in their distancing and sanitisation since March 2020. Always masked and careful around others.

.

They decided to let their hair down and went to an event a week ago. It was a full dance floor. No masks, no distancing.

.

Got covid.

.

I don't know what measures the venue had in place for pre-screening. I don't know if they would have made any difference if they did.

I saw a pic of them on the dance floor last week and thought to myself "Uh oh, that doesn't look too good to me."

.

Regardless, my friend is gutted.

.

Take care out there folks.

I would like to echo the comment above. Just shows how easy it is to catch and yet there are many people out there who still think the whole thing is made up. God give me strength.

So someone who has been very careful throughout thought to ease myself back into the world I’ll go to a club where there is no masks or distancing.

None of this is surprising, from day 1 the most prominent aspect of covid-19 is its infection rate.

The medicinal world was in terror when Ebola first appeared due to its near perfect fatality rate, the saving grace was however the fact people where infectious once on their death beds. The reality is Covid whilst only quite serious in about 1 in 20 infections is incredibly hard to contain, as such it has been devastating in comparison. We just need to hope it doesn’t at some point mutate to be a much higher fatality rate.

Indeed. They did ask me but I said no flipping way. They said "But the venue are pre-screening everyone" and I said "That's not 100% fool proof".

Alas, they took a gamble and it didn't pay off. They are now isolating at home, and various plans of other family members have been scuppered too.

My son caught Covid recently, having been to a nightclub. He's young and healthy and so far, so good, but agree that such places are probable mass spreader events. I think it's opened his eyes to how easy it is to catch. He's confined to barracks for another week now, keeping a video-call eye on him and how he's coping. Sent emergency food aid etc!

We will all almost all catch it at some point and some of us more than once, some of us will die because of it. We do though have to accept Covid is now a fact of life and like flu mitigate the risks with regular vaccine boosters. We also have to get on with life.

How about this for a confined space? Was in sauna steam room and jacuzzi in hotel at the weekend. That night i really felt like i was coming down with something (paranoia;) despite not having a temperature

Got a pcr test yesterday... negative.

Next time im freaking out I'll remind myself about teenagers sharing facemasks to go into shops at lunchtime (true story)

Well, you either lock yourself away for the rest of your life, or accept you are probably going to catch it

Hopefully your friend had had the two jabs and covid would be less harmful as a result.

It was always going to be the case that when the government says it's all good to go party, then people are going to go party.
