How the hell did he manage to catch Covid and if in a close group surely he can’t be the only one?

Because anyone can catch it and spread it at any time, vaccinated or not makes no difference.

Others in the Scotland camp tested positive just before the tournament and couldn't join the squad. Incubation can be as long as two weeks in some cases and he's young so likely not vaccinated. I am deeply suspicious of the statement that no-one within the Scotland camp are defined as close contacts though. How big are the dressing rooms if they can all be 2m+ apart for the 15min interval? And do they arrive in many separate coaches?!

Agreed! I’m a big football fan but it seems ridiculous if there are no close contacts. One rule for them, another for us it seems!

Vaccination reduces transmission. It does make a difference.

Yeah I find it interesting that none of his team mates nor the opposition and none of those he was playing doubles table tennis with need to isolate.

As match play (which includes half time) doesn’t count as close contact, as per their statement. I imagine coach travel is with masks as per the rest of the country

So two England players are now isolating, but no Scotland players are. Cause that makes sense

There's obviously something in place behind the scenes, I'm sure there are safety measures they have to follow.

Yeah which is good. Don’t understand how no Scotland players are having to isolate. Or any player on the pitch for that matter haha. God who knows by this point eh

That's why you should wash your balls every 15 minutes to make sure nobody catches anything from them

The irony is with these superfit athletes... They test positive... Its almost like and so what? I'm not hearing of a you them being stricken down.

Jon rahm tested positive 2 weeks ago and won the US open yesterday... As one example.

Although I'm not suggesting the don't take their bubbles seriously... Good grief imagine the uproar if they didn't do the same as all of us....

There is another interesting thing to come out of this….

Football players in the Wales , England and Scotland squads were not allowed to jump the covid jab queue…. But the British and Irish lions AND the British Olympic squads have been given covid queue exemptions because the government said it was in the “best interests of the union”…..

So the question maybe should be should elite athletes have been allowed to queue jump?

Similar.

A group of 8 (2 of whom are my friends) went down to London for the England v Scotland game (no match tickets) so it was for for the party atmosphere in the streets.

Out of those 8, 3 of the 4 not yet vaccinated have come back covid positive. The 2 older guys (40s) who are double jabbed and 3 weeks+ since jab 2 are both covid negative so far.

Finally the remaining 2 have both had thier 1st jab over 4 weeks ago and so far 1 is covid positive, the other covid negative.

They travelled by the trains and said the mask use was in the minority and it was very much a hugs, drinking games and party atmosphere both ways.

KJ

Because they were using the same base as England used for the friendlies pre the tournament starting, which has brilliant facilities and is remote enough they are not being disturbed….

They can either coach it up.. a66/69.. or 30 minute flight up to Glasgow for the games…

It's all politics it seems. 2 English players have to isolate until and including next Monday as they chatted in the tunnel for 15 minutes after the game and yet no other members of the Scottish team. Hey wait a minute there is an important Scottish football match this evening if they were all to isolate the match would be postponed and that would never do. As most of the players who are young probably have not been jabbed up yet so you would apply logic here and have them isolate as well for their own health but apparently not. As I said it's all about politics.

This is what is being confirmed… they were all apparently chatting for 30-45 minutes after the game had finished… which is why they are considered to be close contacts

I think it's also guidance they've had from ph Scotland even though they are staying in Middlesborough... That'll be in England.

Compare it to the furore when one Celtic player tested positive on dubai trip and pH Scotland then isolated 16 Celtic players. Yes its opportunistic. Just another example of seemingly making the rules up as they go along. But moaning won't change anything.

That aside. I wish both teams well for tonight.
