Changing rooms!!

Why are changing rooms closed? I dont see how you can go into m and s and use the toilets but cant go into shops and use changing rooms? Aahhhh. Retail stores really not helping themselves some times! I'm not buying 4 or 5 trousers to try on to then return at least 4.

Some are open , some not , I think it’s the store not putting staff on to open them up , you need at least one or two on the door and then some to put back onto the rails etc , but agree I have walked out without buying as I can’t be assed to buy items that might not fit me and then having the hassle of returning them

Well, it kind of does, toilets are essential, on a 4 hour coach trip, it's reasonable to expect adults to be able to go that long without using the toilet, there is unlikely to be a cleaner on the coach either.

Most public toilets have to be cleaned at regular intervals so are more likely to be clean (you'd hope).

You're giving people far too much credit, you only have to look at the state of some public toilets to see that some people are actually very disgusting. I was once unfortunate enough enter a cubicle vacated by a 'lady', she had been for a number 2 and it was smeared on the wall, I confronted her and her response was 'they have cleaners for that'.

Some people are just gross.

Think it maybe to keep track of clothes that may or may not be wore by the customer. No control if u allow customers to try on items of clothing. Covid is a new disease the shops r just learning bout it too.

I went to two clothing stores today and both changing rooms were open. Maybe it’s a location or size thing. Primarks are closed but the two I went into are smaller retail stores (not sure I’m allowed to mention names so erring on the side of caution) and they both made a point of letting me know I could try clothing on.

Sorry but makes no sense as the alternative is to buy many clothes and return to shops those that dont fit or dont like.

In a couple of shops the changing rooms were open but in most they were not. It is not helping them as if we have to buy clothes and then return those that don't fit etc then we might as well do our clothes shopping online which is what we are now doing and can't see us going back to store shopping.

Living rurally it's an hour round trip to the nearest clothes shop. There's no way I'm buying any clothes to bring home and try on to take them all back. I hate clothes shopping at the best of times and rarely find things I like.

It will be a big deal for the retailer. As others have said, if you can't try them on you may as well shop online. Many people will never go back to the high street.

Sure. It's a trend that was happening anyway.

But the necessity of toilets overrides the public health concerns that exist with both.

I own an independent clothes shop and our changing rooms are open . You can try on , having a coffee and take your time looking through the store . Im trying my hardest to make the shopping experience as 'normal ' as i possibly can

Stores who have kept their changing rooms closed understand the financials very well - promote that customers have a month to return stuff and secondly save on staffing them - they're quids £££ in.

People buy more, when they are encouraged to in this way.

I'd research which competitors have their changing rooms open, rather than reward them.

The problem is that the government is giving too much leeway in interpretation, so the actual policy is being decided by a local safety nazi. And these people are going to retain control when lockdown is finally lifted. Things won’t magically switch back to normal when lockdown ends, it will take several months for all the jobsworths to let go of the power they’ve had over the last year.

We all complain because the high street is dissapearing ..use it or loose it !.At the mo see shopping as on line but in 3d !the poor shop staff often have to wear masks for all of their working day and put up with hassle from disgruntled customers who are lets face it SLIGHTLY inconvenienced.id rather pick up clothes from the rack confident that they havnt been tried on in a confined poorley ventilated fitting room by a snivelling non mask wearer.At least when people bring them from home they are quaranteened for 24 hours before going back on the shop floor.??

And so the clothes get taken to a home of several snivelling non mask wearers as you put it? Well have been to m n s today and been allowed to try on clothes and made a purchase or two. Having thanked the staff for allowing me to try on they say that they are doing very well because of the policy they are taking. It's down to furlough and not having staff to assist changing rooms. My argument is that if you staff changing rooms you will make extra sales.

I just dont want to be forced to take home three items...I was looking at a new suit for wedding...why buy 3 suits of about 140 quid each to return two and then take 3 days to get refund.

A retailer worker told my cousin it’s because if they try them on and don’t fit they will put them back on the shop floor which is a risk. If they take them home and then bring them back they get put into the back of the store for a few days then put back out on the shop floor x

Guess once you've tried it on it would be too difficult to then leave the items not wanted with the retail assistant to leave on a rack at the back?

Yes but you also need to think can everyone be trusted to do that? If there was a queue to hand the clothing back would everyone stand there to hand it in or just put it back on the shop floor?
