"The reasons masks cannot be a permanent answer against infection control is simple 1. There negative effect on mental health 2. The way they discourage intimacy. I believe (so an opinion) birth rates will globally plummet after this pandemic. Not necessarily a bad thing, but a butterfly effect of face masks. " I can see them being a mitigation effect in places like supermarkets and public transport, long term.

" I am somewhat confused by the points you are making here and honestly struggle to see how mask wearing has any bearing on mental health or intimacy as they are not permentlently bonded to your face? They are a device used to try and curb the spread of a virus that is all, and this is comming from someone that suffers with social anxiety and long term reactive depression. I quite like masks to be honest and have no issue continuing to wear one currently as it has meant no colds for me last winter and less hayfever issues currently.

I feel empowered by the idea that I can do more to stop the spread of illness. I'm not trying to be intimate on a bus or in Sainsbury's - I mostly want to be left alone

On the other topic, it's really great that we've got an emoji for Jim Carrey's Mask

" Not according to a friend who works in a big London maternity unit. She asserts that there has been an increase in pregnancies since lockdown and her colleagues refer to them as 'covid babies', implying that people have procreated due to having time on their hands. Masks may discourage intimacy amongst strangers but luckily I have learned to smile with my eyes instead of my gappy teeth so my success rate in supermarkets should remain good.
