Is there much value to keeping in restrictions in the UK to stop mutation risk when globally the virus is still rampant and will probably continue to mutate many fold?

... Stopping people in the UK getting infected, with a virus we don't know the long term effects of yet?

we are not the only country with some restrictions still in place , and sure we can’t control what other countries do but we can control our contribution - yes there will still be mutations but if we just fully open before we get the vaccination programme finished there will be even more

if one of your kids caught nits and you know some other kids at school still had it - would you try to make sure your first kid didn’t spread it to the second, even though he still had a risk from school? or would you just rub their heads together snd say to hell with it?

South African- smashed

Brazilian- P1- a nasty one- smashed

Indian/ Delta variant- we acted way to slow- the signs were there. Other countries put India on the red list sooner.

We are more than capable of controlling newer variants coming in-

The problem is with Boris at the helm- his mistakes have gone past the point of negligence- it has now become utter insanity

Sadly the vaccination program will never be complete as too many people against the jab

Vaccinated should have a passport to enter publically built up areas

Non vaccinated should be protected by locking them down until they feel ready to be jabbed

What shall we do with the infected vaccinated then, internment camps? What if a family has some of each, put the children into state care maybe?

mRNA vaccines were developed for SARS back in the early naughties. They are not new and not experimental

Please stop spouting dangerous rubbish.

It gets forgotten that the Kent variant has been beaten in this country through and its demise has been masked by the Indian variant. I think you’ll find we will probably jab enough people to suppress this Indian variant too but it’s going to take 6-8 weeks to get there

Alright dr frankenstein

The race for a vaccine against the novel coronavirus, or SARS-CoV-2, is on, with 54 different vaccines under development, two of which are already being tested in humans, according to the World Health Organization. And among the different candidates is a new player on the scene – mRNA vaccines

Not true, they have never been licenced or rolled out to the public before and there were considerable problems with their animal studies.

I only quote scientists and researchers in the field bro

In a nutshell

Its new tech and we are the mass test pilots.

Not all vaccines currently being developed to prevent COVID-19 will be successful. Safety issues or a lack of protection will halt some.

So, a broad portfolio of vaccine approaches and technologies is progressing through human trials is reassuring. We don’t want to put all our eggs in one basket.

Ultimately, it is likely we’ll need a repertoire of COVID-19 vaccines to offer widespread protection. Different vaccine formulations will ensure vaccination is safe and effective for all members of society, including infants, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems as vaccines compromise immunity.

I'd also love to know how they alter DNA. My understanding is that mRNA is pretty fragile.

As long as there are countries around the world that are not or cannot afford to vaccinate this will continue to mutate. Even with vaccination it will mutate - its what viruses do to survive.

With regards to locking down non-jabbed until they feel ready to be jabbed - does this go for people who would get jabbed tomorrow if they could but are being advised not to by medics (one of my relatives!)

Appreciate its just a view point but it's a thin end of a wedge that could become very worrying to round folk up & segregate them. Such policies always end badly - there are enough cases in history to show that.

"Recorded cases of the variant have been found on every continent

I think that's part of our problem, although I'm not advocating we stop testing or sequencing...!

But if other countries do little or none of either they will be blissfully ignorant of what is going on.

Most vaccinated people are only having mild symptoms so hospitalisation or isolation isn't needed

No one isolates if they have a common cold

Nonsense, some are hospitalised, some will die, and they can transmit to more vulnerable people, vaccinated or otherwise, and dangerously increase mutations too. I'm afraid there is no 'Get out of jail free' card.

"Is there much value to keeping in restrictions in the UK to stop mutation risk when globally the virus is still rampant and will probably continue to mutate many fold?"

The words you need to question are " we're being cautious" .

With every strain comes this warning of being cautious to prevent further spread.

We've vaccinated 24 million people, this includes every vulnerable and susceptible individual in the pursuit of saving the NHS from being overrun. The numbers we are seeing are positive cases, not deaths or hospitalisation, and the latter is currently well below the five year average anyway. Who are we protecting?

Of course, they are the same in that respect so no need to discriminate - though some feel transmission in the vaccinated will lead to more pernicious mutations that will escape them.

Whilst boarders are open for people to travel and go on holiday their will never be an ending to the virus as it mutates and given the different types of the virus together could form into eventually something that even the vaccine is unable to control or stop I believe but has shown how impatient people are even in a global pandemic with no worry or concerns to jump on a plane because they want to go abroad on holiday smh I heard those that went to Portugal are stuck their and no government should be to blame because it was given the green light things can change unexpectedly and people should realise this

Don't think anyone is stuck there they would just have to test 2 days before leaving and isolate at home for 10 days when back in UK

If they tested positive they would have to do there 10 days isolation in Portugal then test before flying home

Hotel costs are covered by insurance as country was green when they flew out

Really can't see a point in traffic light system when UK continues to restrict travel out but not in

There's still only a few countries on the red list for incoming flights that require people to be isolated in hotels

Mutations will continue to happen in UK or other places and the virus will never be irradiated just like flu

The vaccines are working as they should by preventing hospitalisation

So let's get on with life open up with no restrictions

Let the anti vaccers moan all they like it's them that should be restricted from all public places to protect them becoming ill and a drain on the nhs
