If a stock market in one country crashes they go down all over the world.if a virus in one country gets out every country gets it.you can fly round the world in 24hrs.

Are we too interconected.

In every case possible, replace long distance travel with long distance internet. Put up airplane tickets to a minimal price of ten thousand pounds a go, or ten percent of the travellers annual income, whichever is higher. When business travellers return home, make them work planting trees for a period equal to the duration of their trip.

Global chaos or cooperation.

The biggest problem is global heating for the longer term, which requires the world to take action, rather than split off into isolated silos.

Pricing things to become unaffordable to most people creates a 2 tier world of division and - of course - would require all countries to work together to enforce it. Whilst putting thousands out of work. Just having the wealthy travelling wouldn't stop infection spreading, just leave it to the wealthy to do it.

As this is the virus section, we can think better about reducing the causes of such problems. We have disregarded the natural world and to our peril. For a much smaller cost than the pandemic, we can protect habitats from destruction and manage our interactions with other species, helping to protect them and us. There are many infections that could cross over to us, as some have done in recent years. That is where we should be investing, to prevent further outbreaks and pandemics.

We won't be disconnecting from the world but we can focus on the causes of global problems, with global heating and wildlife disruption being aspects of our disrespect for the world that we live in and taking much for the benefit of the few.

The planet will become increasingly more interconnected, so long as there is cheap energy to facilitate our interconnectedness; and the value of the benefit derived is greater than the cost.

Most our our present explosion of interconnectedness is based on the availability of cheap oil that powers airplanes, shipping, automobiles, telecommunications, etc.

Peak Oil was passed a long time ago; we are now in a state of decline in terms of cheap fossil fuel availability, thus the increasing need for alternative forms of energy to maintain the connections.

The world's coal supplies will last another 500 years; nuclear fuel is approaching its peak too.

The peak concept pertains to the rate of discovery of new resources, balanced against demand.

Peak oil occurred about thirty years ago; the low hanging fruit has all been picked; future extraction will be increasingly costsly as will the consequences such as carbon damage to this planet's atmosphere.

Well that would be Paul out of work, no more foreign holidays unless the price of the flight would be 10% of his new income from tree planting.

All those unemployed when the airline / travel industry collapses would be able to travel at 10% of their dole money (unless you have the minimum cost of 10 grand per flight).

Think it needs a bit more thought and may start on single occupancy car use, tolls on motorways, tunnels and bridges, staggered costs on occupancy.

Hopefully, this next generation will take the reins and move forward. I'm a great fan of young people and think the world is in safe hands and I am aware that some folks will say some young people are useless, so are some older people too.

It's a difficult square to circle.

As soon as any legislation is introduced, it will be classed as government control and not in my back yard gov....can but hope.
