Is anyone else having problems with the lateral flow test, gagging when trying to swab the back of your throat for the lateral flow test, any suggestions to help?

OK flower, bit it's sufficient I feel like I will be sick, plus I wonder if I am getting a proper sample for the test, it was a serious question.

On a mooch

We don’t do the back we were told to stroke the sides to the entrance, ie where your tonsils are or used to be for those that don’t have them.

You aren’t alone in the gagging, it takes me four swipes at it to get the time length they need

Nothing unusual, unfortunately. Plus sneezing... LFTs have got those horrible tiny brushes instead of a cotton bud, that's what gets me most (Devil here).

May sound odd but make a fist but with the thumb inside whilst you do the rest... actually does help with gagging

I too find that the throat swab makes me gag but I cope because it's only for a couple of seconds. Swabbing my nose makes my eyes water and I sneeze like merry hell for a couple of minutes afterwards. Worth doing though for peace of mind

I would wager there’s many here who have gaged on something bigger than a cotton bud tickling the back of their throat.

Is that for the hand holding the swab? Sorry if that's a stupid question

Go Aaaaahhhhhhhh when you start to put the swab in. It also helps keep the tongue flat in your mouth.

I got this tip from a good friend who is a nurse and it works for me

Many thanks for suggestions, I have no issue with the nasal swab, just the throat bit. Anyway tests so far all negative.
