"The Black Fungus. It's rife in India and Covid makes it easier to contract it, with 50% mortality rate. It's in the air. It attacks the nasal passage and in worse cases it destroys tissue. This could be bigger than Covid. Be prepared." Behave!

"Quick fact check. 54 people in India caught it. Easier to catch after steroid use (used to treat covid so that's the only relationship to covid) and is comes from mould in the soil." Stop press...bbc now reporting nearly 9000....what a difference a week makes

I don't think this is being oversold - it's a crisis within a crisis in India. Is it likely to be an issue here? No. Does that mean it's a non issue? Also no.

"So would people rather not know? To me it's not scaremoungering, it informs me and then enables me to look further into something if I want or label it as not really relevant. For instance there has been a lot of major eruptions lately of some rather interesting volcanoes... there are pages and pages of doomsayers on the internet stating how devastating. Yet even the news reports they are quoting on state zero casualties. People tend to see a head line and not read further." Yeah, I find the scaremongering refrain bizarre. It's a thing. Which is happening. Are we not supposed to discuss the news now? Particularly virus related news, in a virus section?

Compassion, not scaremongering" So a very brief search has highlighted the biggest cause of this to be a prescription mismanagement. The steroid that is used in SOME covid patients is an antifungal drug which is being used in too high a dose and for too long. It also appears to be solely in cases where the patient has disproportionate blood sugar levels. 8800 cases in a population af 1.4 billion is hardly case for panic and scaremongering, but I will concede that it highlights a problem in the diabetes cases in India.

" Who's panicking or scaremongering? It's a life threatening issue if not treated properly. It's a growing issue in India, where steroid use is more frequent, along with diabetes. India is already up shit creek, this compounds it, poor them.

"But doesn’t there lie the issue ? People reading something and then dissecting it and only reporting/commenting on parts, therefore it being taken out of context. To me the post is scaremongering. The whole point of it is to scare that there’s potentially an even worse pandemic on the horizon. " My point exactly.

I don't see the problem. It's a virus related issue, in the virus forum. You don't have to discuss it if you don't want to, but I don't think it needs to be poo-pooed either
