Sounds very like someone fainting because they can't manage needles

Or simply didn't eat beforehand maybe?

Whilst waiting for clarification from the Op I will simply say we've done well in excess of 125000 vaccinations at the centre I volunteer at and there's been one case of a guy feeling faint due to needle phobia and one lady post jab who 'felt warm' and was anxious prior to the jab and was fine to walk out..

For three such events to take place as it looks is being claimed certainly does seem extremely unlikely but will wait to see what the op says..

Yes, the numbers do point to it being overwhelmingly safe, and better than the alternative.

Same.

Our centre does well over a thousand jabs a day, 7 days a week, 9am to 8pm. They've had a handful of faints, all handled with basic first aid. We've had a couple of vomiters (anxiety related). Zero allergic reactions or other such things at all.

I've seen one vomiter - the girl looked pale before she had the vaccine. I triple checked she felt ok, she said yes, I gave it and she walked outside and puked. Tea, biscuits and a sit down cured everything....

I had a swollen arm 12 hours after my first jab and a day of fever, fatigue, headache and pain.

Am prepared to do it again for dose two. Worth it.

There's been plenty each shift who are anxious yes over needles, can see it and by engaging with the person reassure them it'll be fine..

So possibly yes ..

My 23 yr old son fainted with his first jab as he does with every time he sees a needle. He had his second last saturday and the doctor was stood waiting for him just in case. He was fine.

OP I wouldn't be too concerned there are many reasons why people faint.

"I wonder if you'll hear of this on mainstream news, doubt it... not the first and won't be the last unfortunately "

Do you think the news publishes a story about every panic attack, fainting episode or other minor medical issue experienced by the UK population in a day? It'd make a very tedious and repetitive 10 O'clock News: "our reporter in Milton Keynes brings us news that Enid, age 73, stubbed her toe on the way into her local Spar, when out for a pint of milk. Despite the heroic efforts of the first aiders who rushed to assist, they could not prevent her tights from laddering. Enid's family say they will be investigating the denier of the nylons, because they were definitively advertised as ladder-free. Now, to our reporter in South Shields, and reports that a man tripped and tore his jeans on his way to work...."

I think any half sensible journalist might wonder why someone who said they had left the venue would actually know that two other lady's had also had a similar simultaneous event 15 minutes later..

Maybe they were conducting a survey ..

Sounds like a rather unusual series of events in such a short space of time. Just unlucky maybe?

It’s recommended not to take any form of pain relief before you have the vaccination.

After vaccination when they put u to a side to sit down.

Thats why they say if any one feels fainting or anything put hand up straight away so u cn be seen,

We was told its happened to several people for diffrent reasons, needle shock, anxiety, reaction,

That's standard protocol with the vaccine you received, just one question how did you know that the other two ladies had the same reaction 15 minutes to after you left?

So if it's not reported on is there a clandestine web of anonymous reporters, typing away furiously to keep up with such things?

Is it like during the war when people would go 'psst, want any nylons'?

So, to sum up OP, a guy in front of you had an issue and fainted after his jab, you then had issues with heart palpitations, two ladies immediately after you had fainting fits....and to top it all your mother had blood clots after having the AZ vaccine?

Call me cynical, but I think you are being a bit economical with the truth here.

This is complete nonsense! Never before has a single drug or drugs been used across the entire globe in such volumes, so it makes sense that the total number of reported side effects will be higher than other drugs that are used in a narrower geographic area and in smaller volumes.

Do you really think Governments the world over would all be able to hide it if people were keeling over left, right and centre? India are trying to hide the number of dead, but inconveniently, the bodies keep floating to the top of the Ganges and deposit themselves in the silt at the sides.

Satellite images of mass graves in Iran in the first wave made it impossible for them to cover up the epidemic there.

It's ridiculous to think Governments that can't hide a piece of paper for 5mins would be able to hide huge volumes of seriously vaccine injured people. I'm not just referring to the UK here, but Governments the world over, seeing as most countries are using the same pool of vaccine types.

Needles can cause people to faint on sight, just look at the opening credits of Quincy.

As for waiting for an hour, then queuing up inside a stuffy building isn't going to help.

Nerves, impatience are all riding high now.

That's standard protocol with the vaccine you received, just one question how did you know that the other two ladies had the same reaction 15 minutes to after you left?"

Cause they was bought into the same room as where we was taken

One said her heart rate felt as it was racing fast, and other said she went into a shock with fear.

These are the signs of panic attacks and one person having a panic attack will unfortunately cause others who are of a nervous disposition to do the same. It's not the content of the syringe, it's the act of jabbing a sharp item into your body (same for blood tests, for example). Jabbing a metal rod into a muscle is a form of injury and the body can react with the old "run away from the ouchy thing" response.

People have panic attacks, racing heart, raised blood pressure just with having non invasive medical appointments, so obviously stabbing someone with a sharp item will potentially increase the risk of a stress response.

I find that hard to believe.

When I went for my flu jab last year a woman fainted just after receiving the jab, when we had the BCG at school one girl threw up, one fainted and worked herself up so much because she didn't like needles she had a massive panic attack.

Iv been to both my covid jabs and nothing happened while I was their, same both times my partner and his mother, father, step mother and sister went for theirs on different days at different centres.

Of course these things happen but its not uncommon but doesn't mean the vaccine is unsafe.

Central

Millions of people have had these jabs without widespread side effects like this and predominantly they have incredibly high safety profiles. Their effectiveness is also phenomenally good.

That several people responded in a similar style sounds like social influence or something like mass hysteria.

Investing energy into the scientific evidence is very worthwhile.

As Birmingham as a whole has recorded zero admissions from the vaccination centres today and knowing the very strict guidelines all the centres are operate to ensure people’s safety I can only really conclude:

Your friend doesn’t like needles and feinted, and you and the girls suffered a bit of an emotional panic attack based on your fears.

Glad you’ve recovered quickly and can share your experiences on fab though, needless to say even a mild reaction to any one of the three vaccines would have required more than taking outside for some fresh air.

Which vaccine out of interest?

Strange... ours and every other NHS trust clearly records any vaccination centre admissions within our covid-19 reporting (and no, we don’t have an evil Tory with a red pen altering them at any stage of the process). Bearing in mind virtually all serious reactions occur within 15 minutes of the treatment (this is why you’re asked to wait for 15 mins before departure) then any problem requiring medical care should be logged in this manner, or certainly the vast majority.

What those figures show are very minimal numbers, considering the size of our local centres (the ethiad stadium (vaccinates 1000 a day) etc) we are still to get to double figures of admissions since the programme began.

If you don’t need people to comment, why post your mild panic attack on a forum? The post in it’s entirety seems a tad overly dramatic and as others have commented, a really poor attempt to suggest four individuals had a bad reaction to the vaccine when in reality you’re all just a little flakey with needles.

I cried both times I had mine as im anxious about needles, if I'd seen someone faint I'd probably has panicked too.

Being part of a team delivering vaccinations I've sent one or two people faint. This has been through anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, standing in long queues etc. They've all come back for their 2nd jab because they know how important it is and realised after the 1st that it doesn't even hurt

This. People underestimate the psychological factors in things like this. I think we have had maybe 3 faints that I am aware off across the 3 centres I help at. But being someone that is terrified of needles ( if I'm in a pod I try not to look in the direction of the needles) i can tell you if i see the needles it gives me heart racing.. feeling sick. When I had mine my heart rate shoot through the roof... then after plummeted. This can and does cause issues. It was the needle not the vaccine for me

I don't disagree, though for that correlation to be meaningful you need a sample size greater than 1. Fortunately, the sample size on Fabs is far higher.

I find it remarkable - big pharma is supposed to be out to kill us all, etc. And yet everyone always jumps to thalidomide. 50+ years ago.

If big pharma were all homicidal maniacs, you'd think that there'd be plenty of more recent examples.

It's almost as if any industry or regulatory body makes mistakes and learns from them. Huh.

Roll up rol up get your jabs here , it’s perfectly safe .

Hear, hear!

Have had both of mine & felt absolutely fine.

Could possibly have been a panic attack the OP had? "

Symptoms are all "classic" panic attack symptoms...

I'm a little needle phobic (it's actually pain phobic) so I made a really conscious effort to relax my arm just before my second jab. Oh my goodness, what a difference that made. I barely felt it.

I actually said to the man with the needle, I wish dental ones were that painless and he laughed and said "I am a dentist and I agree with you!"

I thanked him profusely for helping.

I was thinking about this the other day, I don't know anyone who has had a bad reaction and none of my friends do that I've talked about it with, directly or indirectly.

I'm not counting a sore arm or legs day feeling fluey

I guess that fits with how rare it is

My first jab, no adverse reactions, sat in the waiting area along with others all of us chatting away.. no one had any affect, in fact we thought we’d been give a placebo jab..

second jab, only very mild pain if touching the jab area, otherwise nothing really..

after affects of anaesthetic jabs are far worse in my opinion..

In all my years as a medic in the army, sticking needles in recruits, it was the blokes that fainted the most, especially the big 'uns.

Someone would shout 'man down!' and we would all pounce, taking blood out and shoving needles in.

OP, sounds like he fainted.

Tea, biscuits and a sit down cured everything...."

Same. We have had 6 that felt faint and one that actually did. The one that did fainted before the vaccine as she had got so stressed and worried about the needle.

All have felt fine after a drink and a biscuit and all but one hadn't eaten that day as they were nervous.

None of these issues were caused by the vaccine just a normal stress reaction to needles.

Happebd regularly in surgery when taking bloods and the staff know how to deal with it.

Can't stress enough how you should have a decent meal and something to drink (not alcohol) before your appointment and try to keep calm.

Cause they was bought into the same room as where we was taken

One said her heart rate felt as it was racing fast, and other said she went into a shock with fear.

"

All the sytmptoms you describe are stress reactions and seeing someone else faint and feel unwell tends to upset others.

It is not necessarily a reaction to the vaccine and more a reaction to the situation.

I felt like I had flu for 24 hours after the first Astra-Zeneca jab, then as if I had a cold for another 24 hours, then like setting a clock, absolutely fine apart from a sore arm for nearly 3 weeks.

I am not wishing to put anyone down because of their fears and phobias but when I read threads like this I am filled with respect and admiration for the 65 residents I work with. The oldest is 2 months away from celebrating her 100th birthday.

A few of them came down with covid last December. They pulled through and every single one of them have had both vaccinations. Not one word of complaint or doubt. Nor did they need any persuasion. Some of them had minor side effects but they shrugged them off.

A hardier generation perhaps?

"So many people between 30 - 40 are not turning up or refusing vaccination, unsurprisingly they are the majority age group seriously ill in hospitals currently and the group identified as suffering long covid.

Actually the are proving to have one of the highest uptakes, if you go off first jab figures as most a

Need to wait for their second they look on course to be one of the most compliant age groups"

The overall uptake across all age groups has been higher than predicted

Think you went to the wrong room. Sounds like the erectile dysfunction jab they gave you

"I am not wishing to put anyone down because of their fears and phobias but when I read threads like this I am filled with respect and admiration for the 65 residents I work with.

V

I wouldn't say they are hardier but at their age why wouldn't they have it? Also they certainly would of seen how quickly it spread in care homes etc last April. "

I've been utterly humbled by the strength my vulnerable people have shown. That started before we knew a vaccine was coming.

As these injections are still in their experimental stage with medium to long term effects still unknown I think I'll wait and see how people are being affected.

The fact that people still contract the virus after being injected still concerns me.

Had my second jab yesterday and have had no issues. I feel like a lot of comments regarding side effects, things being unknown, all still not fully developed etc are due to misinformation and people cba to go do their research. A lot of scaremongering going around too from both sides!

"I went for my jab today and infront of me the young guy suddenly clapsed and fell to a side, it was someone i knew, help.arrived immediatly and he was put in a wheel chair and moved away from rest people who were waiting to leave to their times after takimg jab, i had a reaction to my heart rate droped, i quickly asked to be taken out as i was feeling suffocated inside, fear, scared to what id seen or that i had a rection,15 mins after me another 2 young ladys had same issue, and thats the first doze, second suppse to be worse, each to their own experience, i took 2 paracetamol tablets an hour before

Roll up rol up get your jabs here , it’s perfectly safe .

It is safe.. I'm fine .. And what's more because I have had the jab I can prove it is safe .. And that's not the case for someone who hasn't had the jab is it eh? "

Brilliant deduction

Would our country's top medical experts have let the Queen have it if it wasn't safe ?

My risk assessment was based on the preliminary Valneva phase 1/2 data. I signed up for the trial on the basis of, if I got the Valneva, 2/150 people had moderate reactions for 48 hours.

That's not a risk I'd ask anyone else to take, but - and it's funny how I'm also called scared for not meeting - I was personally prepared to risk myself to help others on that basis. All the licensed vaccines have much more robust and promising safety data than that.

You may find if you don't have the jab that no one will want to meet with on from Fab. Would that change your mind?

I'm sure plenty of people will just lie.

Fortunately there are ways around this.

"I wonder if you'll hear of this on mainstream news, doubt it... not the first and won't be the last unfortunately

Now, to our reporter in South Shields, and reports that a man tripped and tore his jeans on his way to work....""

that made me lol

You realise that when you get any vaccine you are still capable of contracting the illness for a few weeks after the fact. You can also get ill and this is a good thing as it's your body helping build up immunity and recognising and remembering what it is that it needs to attack. I swear every antivax person on these threads doesn't even have the most basic grasp of science. They just read ridiculous articles on the Internet and take it as fact

It turns out that the vast majority of vaccinations don't prevent infection - they prevent illness.

The Nirvana fallacy - if it's not perfect or better, it's worthless or worse - runs rampant.

I do find it hilarious the large proportion of anti vaxxers who won’t trust a vaccine but will think nothing of consuming , and pills from some random geezer the don’t know. I witnessed one of the anti vax protests in London and the air was almost green with dope smoke . #drugsreallydorobpeopleofanyintligence

Your body will still build antibodies to a virus without taking the vaccine.

I've not been following closely, but a quick Google suggests something like, we'll be at risk from variants for awhile. The other stuff I'm following suggests that the vaccines provide excellent - but not as good - protection against variants in most cases.
