It's very scary to see the complete crock of shit that is how we have managed this situation. Gosh it's so so so poor. Have a watch if you feel like making your blood pressure rise before bed time.

Amongst many other points..

That the passenger location form, the self isolation, the pcr tests et al are never checked and have loop holes the size of a large loophole in them.

That the Sept and Dec waves could have been largely avoided.

I'm very loyal to our leaders mostly but it's just mind blowing the incompetence. I mean seriously a 12 year old school child would have failed if they had suggested such a process. So sad.

For international travel? In January the airline checked to ensure we had negative PCR results before they would let us fly. The passenger locator forms were checked on arrival and everyone without one was taken aside.

Quarantine/ self isolation... I haven't been checked after any flights back to England in the last year.

But then I haven't been stopped when travelling across the border of any towns either.

As the forum has shown, until the NHS delivered the successful vaccine rollout, we have truly been abysmal at managing this throughout. Most decisions were very poor, actions were typically much too late and we lost the lives of tens of thousands of people that were avoidable losses. The impact on the economy was obviously much worse than it should have been, as well as on people's wellbeing overall.

It's completely irrelevant to say 'would Labour or anyone else ,have done a better job,in the running of the country?That's akin to saying 'if I'd have picked those lottery numbers last night'

Simple facts are that there has been mistake after mistake, to make it worse, those mistakes continue. From not shutting our borders early enough, even though we could see what was happening in Northern Italy. Sending NHS emergency PPE to China,then leaving our doctors and nurses to use bin liners for protection. UK residents couldn't leave the country, but 20,000 000+ people came in to the UK,untested no quarantine. Even yesterday Matt Hancock said 'people should certainly not go to Spain,Italy, France and Greece 'even though last week these countries were on the Amber list for travel.

Shall I carry on?

I have a list alot longer than my arm

I really think the "noone else could have done any better" is an extremely poor and somewhat dangerous excuse for government incompetence. They are the ones in charge and have a responsibility in which they seem largely to have failed which has resulted in 1000s of deaths. The "noone else could hace done better" excuse really is a very poor one in these circumstances

How anyone can excuse the incompetence of the current UK Govt is beyond me. Whataboutism is not an excuse and is impossible to prove either way.

Of course there have been plenty of muppets who either couldn’t understand or ignored rules/guidance but does that abdicate the responsibility of our elected officials to, you know, “govern”.

This current crop or morally bankrupt opportunists are the worst possible government at the worst possible time.

If you voted for these people based on wanting to “get brexit done” then some of this is on you! You voted for them based on a single issue without considering everything else they stood for.

This is not an anti Tory rant because I truly do not think even Margaret Thatcher would recognise this lot as Tories.

If you excuse these people then you also excuse the greatest theft of state assets in history - YOUR (tax) MONEY has been gifted to cronies and Tory party donors. These Ministers, their families and friends are enriching themselves at your expense.

On top of that their prevarication and ineptitude has cost 000s of lives.

Don’t tell me nobody else could have done better!

I don’t for one minute think they are unintelligent, they clearly have an agenda that is succeeding (to line their pockets).

Death rate in Scotland significantly lower than England

Current hospitalisation rate lower in Scotland than england

Current ICU rates lower in Scotland than in England

With the exception of patients returning to Care homes, Scotland has acted quicker, taken a more careful approach out of lockdowns and has had a sensible and clear tier system based on council areas.

In Scotland there are currently 3 tiers in operation with Glasgow and Moray still in tier 3 due to the higher cases. England is all leaving lockdown together.

The Tories have been useless. THEY should have done better. Don't use the "could anyone else have done any better" argument.

What they are is a bunch of opportunists who have weaponised and monetised the pandemic to pass emergency powers to enable legislation that will deliver their policies. They thought brexit was a gift to further their own aims but that was nothing compared to the opportunity afforded by Covid.

You have always been quite supportive of them aswell?

Stuff came out several weeks ago which revealed that Johnson initially dismissed it,hence the missed meetings,but it went under the radar.

Said it before but the stuff over the schools was borderline criminal.

Yet a big chunk of the papolulaton believe it's been handled well.

No wonder they are not keen on this investigation.

I suppose I was after a debate on the content of the show more than the usual tribal attacks we get on political side taking.

For example I thought it would be reasonable for people who were being told to self isolate post travel, that they were checked up on at least once a day. That perhaps they were able to identify through a security process that they were speaking to the person that had travelled (like when you call a bank or telecom company or utility provider) and needed to isolate and that they could use a bit of technology (say GPS) to check they were where they said they were. But according to the program none of those things happen and whomever answers the phone and wherever they are... Their word is taken as accurate.

So "are you isolating at home?"

Answer "yes"

Its almost as if the process designers have never met a human before.

Or that the pcr tests that are purchased at huge cost have actually been taken and completed and results recorded against the passport number that travelled.

Further,

I suppose my observation would be that having had a year almost, with endless budget, and the best minds in the coubtry focused on the safe and secure travel problem, I would have expected us to come up with a system and process that was a bit more difficult to break.
