Not looking for an argument with the keyboard warriors-just thoughts from what now seems two sides of public opinion.

Report out today that the Government scientific psychologists whose job it is to scare , not only couldnt believe how easy it was to get the country to readily give up their freedom and comply, but some think they may have gone too far.

Bearing in mind the Govt has spent millions on advertising c19 until 2023, controlling the media and recruiting thousands of c19 marshalls who dont even start their two year contract until July this year, this is far from over.

So, with the easing of restrictions, I for one dont enjoy meeting a bouncer on the door of shops and being coralled like cattle, people stepping into traffic to avoid you on the street, not because of covid (ive had it and so have all my family and so have most people I know)

-but the general atmosphere, strangely another scientist has said they are more worried about the vaxxed spreading the virus as they have let their guard down, not realising they can still get it and pass it on.

So, what are your thoughts on our "new world, are you going to throw caution to the wind or avoid certain places and situations?

I'll play things by ear, according to the perception of risk. It will be good to slowly recover towards a less restricted lifestyle. At present after 17th May, it's travel, nightclubs and large gatherings pretty much that aren't yet back, so it's not that much different.

Mask wearing is a really simple, effective prevention strategy that costs pennies and makes virtually no difference to life, so I think it's worth continuing with them for a good while to come.

for me personally, its now gone too far to make transition back to normal life seamless

to clarify that i don’t mean that the steps taken were wrong or too harsh - i completely think they were needed, just that for me specifically the length of time i have been working and living in isolation has now changed me as a person

i was always sociable and bubbly before , i bounced out the door last summer when restrictions lifted with little to no effect but the prolonged lockdown through the winter seems to be the straw that broke the camels back, particularly with not having a social bubble and even though we have had restaurants and shops open for over a month in scotland i have only been out once , i don’t even go to supermarkets, i can count on one hand the number of occasions i have seen anyone i know even outside this year

the anxiety and exhaustion i get from leaving the house or socialising actually has nothing to do with covid ... the distancing doesn’t bother me, the security on doors are not a problem, no issue with masks, i’m not all that scared of catching the virus, i have very little social media and don’t watch live tv so don’t see this marketing you talk of ... i don’t really know how to explain it but it just seems all too overwhelming to cross the threshold and be anywhere other than home alone now for. no reason at all

i really hope its a temporary change and i can get back to where i used to be, but the only way to get there i imagine is to push myself to do it more and more till it becomes normal again , and of course it hard to get started and hard to keep going when its exhausting you

anyway maybe a bit of a tangent because i think you were looking for comments on freedoms , but as someone who supports lockdown , i do recognise there are also negative effects of it

I'm fine. My immune response from my jabs will be at their peak in about six weeks, and I'll continue to take precautions. I follow the science, and I adapt.

Sadly I think this is a huge problem. I've seen some many friends, family members and clients we work with suffer huge costs to thier mental health that its has fundamentally changed how they act, engage with people, thier personality. It's so very sad to see. I worked throughout the pandemic as a key worker seeing people everyday and still been out in the world engaging, if like some of my friends had to work cabined up at home, following the stay st home orders I dread to think of how it would have effected me.

A lot of services will be needed to unpick the cost to the nations mental health when we finally come out the other side that's for sure.

One of the SAGE advisors has said today that with restrictions relaxed that we will see 10,000 hospitalisations a day in a few weeks and around 600 - 1,000 deaths a day to follow.

If they keep pushing this sort of message then I’m not sure will will ever return to normality as we used to know it.

At the moment the Furlough scheme is keeping many jobs safe but once it goes in October then I can see a lot of businesses shedding jobs.

Another lockdown which Hancock and SAGE seem to want will wipe this country out, a lot of businesses are already in a dire situation with rent arrears, loans, etc - you can’t keep taking their incomes away and expect them to survive !

'they' are only going by the modelling that's been carried out, it may be the case that's accurate but equally it may not be at that level..

Were in a global pandemic which isn't going away because we are opening up, it's still prevalent and we need to get used to it no matter how bad it is or might be..

Mass global vaccination is the way forward but we're a long way from that yet..

Do you think the Government will ever end Furlough after all it’s only Tax payers money , how will they handle all the unemployment when it ends ?

Well there is an unbiased opening.

I'm fine and have been for many months.

I find the over dramatised views on restrictions to be similar to the brexit nonsense, people just throwing wild views out, whereas reality is far more subtle.

Society this large in the millions have to operate within rules based system, some you will agree with others you won't. But the basic principle is that you live in a society were you agree to abide by the rules even the ones you disagree with.

Only in very small societies numbering of say a few families can you have a system whereby everyone operates more or less by their own internal rules.

But even then large differences in lifestyles will lead to conflicts and therefore the need to reach a compromise.

Was questioning will Government end Furlough? as the repercussions of mass unemployment is going to be one hell of a problem , and after all it’s only Taxpayers money not actually Governments

but wether its unemployment benefits or furlough either way its taxpayers money, the terms of furlough are very clear its only the date that keeps getting extended - when lockdowns end, furlough ends , i’m not really sure what is not clear about that

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Never underestimate the resilience of human nature..

Consider any of the civil wars that have taken place in recent living memory; For those who lived through them they are now just that, a memory.

Life continues and people return back to what they enjoy..

We are fortunate, we only have attitudes and an economy to rebuild; we are not having to rebuild our towns and cities or rebuild trust in our neighbours who previously were on an opposing side and hell bent on our destruction.

People elsewhere go through far greater struggles in their everyday lives, we only have to deal with a blip thats not had a huge impact on the majorities liberties or livlihoods.

Its been a minor sacrifice in comparison to what others live with everyday..

Surely there are companies crying out for staff, the leisure and hospitality industry will need people. According to the staff thread, quite a few EU citizens have left their jobs to return home.
