Is your gym a joke?

For social distancing and so called covid precautions? Do mates work out together who you know don't live together? Do the personal trainers chat to each other and their mates like there's no virus? Do people not wipe equipment after use?

People will do as they wish, and it's everybody's choice whether to go to the gym. We're just curious, what's your gym like at the moment?

The gym I use is spot on in regard to Covid. It’s a one off, not part of a chain. Even before Covid the cleaning by the gym and members was extremely high. When I’m with my PT/coach he only speaks to me.

I use 2 gyms. 1 for PT and one for my own workouts. Both independents.

PT gym is a bit hit and miss with regards people cleaning equipment, but that's why I clean kit before I use it too. People stay in their bubbles as a rule, even if they aren't strictly speaking bubbles.

The other gym, everyone I've seen is really respectful, always clean their kit and stand a good distance apart, staff all wear masks.

It's impossible to know who are housemates/couples etc and who isn't, so I can't answer that one. I know equipment is socially distanced, some has been removed to make space and the studio has 2m squares marked out for those who want to exercise in it. The spin studio is completely off limits.

The PTs are based out of a reasonably small office and have a tiny kitchen, so it would seem they have formed work bubbles and only work on certain days.

There are cleaning stations around the gym and people seem to be using them. My PT does it for me because I struggle to reach things from the wheelchair. My PT and I do have to come closer than 2m because he assists me from a disability perspective (sanctioned by gym management and within the disability exemptions in the regulations) but I see the other PTs remaining distant from their clients, unless a safety issue.

I'm perfectly happy with it...

I have done it for the last 3 years, also by training at home you can train without any covid closures

I prefer training at home as it can be annoying at times when people are too busy playing with their phone to find a track they like

Mine is ok. Could be better, and some people aren't great, but I can't fault the staff

Mine is a small hardcore gym where the only staff is the owner.

He doesn't want his gym closed so he makes sure people keep their distance and all kit is constantly cleaned

It's seems that it's worse at our "budget" gym. Out of six personal trainers only one has a good attitude anyway. Before the last lockdown half of the hand santitizer dispensers would be empty. We'd tell the staff who'd say they checked them that morning, when actually they'd been empty for three days. Pay budget price get budget product!

My gym is an independent and well run. People are keeping separate, cleaning after themselves and they are limiting numbers. I reckon they are doing a better job than most places on the high street.

My gym is totally on point. With only a limited amount allowed in. All the machines etc are spaced well. Literally everyone disinfects the equipment they use and there is a full time cleaner constantly mopping and cleaning literally everywhere.

My gym is great

All equipment 2 metres apart

Everyone sanitises everything before and after use

Classes are smaller numbers and socially distanced

PTs and staff wear masks

Safest indoor environment I could be in

No but it is a small gym where you can only go if you book online. Generally everyone has their own rack (there are 4 pieces of cardio equipment but usually for pt clients). Everyone knows to clean their equipment plus the trainer goes round cleaning during the session as well. I love my gym.

The gym I use is fairly small and they are policing cleaning and social distancing really well.

I actually left the gym I used as when they reopened last year, they didn’t manage any of the controls they said they had in place.

I train at 3 gyms. All small Powerlifting and bodybuilding gyms.

Only one takes temperature on way in but other than that there is zero social distancing or covid measures.

It's really nice as it seems everyone who trains there appears to be as relaxed as me about it. Its like a time before covid and social distancing.

Can't wait for more places to become like this.

Probably shouldn’t advertise this they’d get closed down lol!

I own a martial arts gym, what we have to do for our insurance is ridiculous. To me it’s not worth not sticking to the rules and guidance we are given. (Other than me obviously wanting to keep people safe)

Plus, I’d want my gym to be welcoming and safe for everyone- including those a little more nervous than others.

No. My gym is extremely safe. Everyone cleans what they use and works out alone. Staff wear masks and stay distanced. People follow posted walking directions. All classes are outside too.

People book time slots and numbers in at any one time and kept very low.

Staff and customers seem determined to follow safely rules to the letter.

Well, I own a home gym and I am the sole user and instructor.

Be nice to have a buddy in this bubble though. Who's listening?

I've been impressed with my gym. Most people put a mask on when moving from one piece of equipment to another, everyone wipes down the equipment after use and the staff all permanently wear masks.

Its better than I thought it would be

The joys of being a ramp agent. I used to do 7 757 turn rounds on a shift, better than any work out I ever did. I lost so much weight in two months of the first summer. Due to chucking bags.

If you need a decent workout, ask for the africa or india flights. The bags usually start at 30kg, then go up.

It wouldn't bother me if people do. It's not realistic for people not to have a chat with a mate or acquaintance that they've not seen for a while.

I'll make my own judgements and keep myself safe, others can do the same.

All good at my box, temp taken on way in, everyone working out in their own marked out square, everyone cleaning their equipment after and no sweaty hugs allowed at the moment
