Folks,

There's a report in the guardian about an update from the EU regarding holidays...

It's interesting that they are looking to enforce reciprocity... So if we want to go to EU countries... All EU countries must be permitted to enter the UK.

Lets hope there's some heed of the covid status in each country.

Surely we can cope without a foreign holiday this year just let's see what happens, travel companies and airlines need some serious financial help though.

A country may be given a "green" status by UK because they currently have low vivid stats. So you can travel without restriction . But if that country gives free access to much riskier countries (maybe on our "red" list) would you still go??

I think we'd struggle to move from country to country like that now. We're not in the EU, we're not in Schengen and so we have to sort out visas or whatever travel permit is needed for each individual country.

I can absolutely see why they would want this… why on earth would the government say.. we are allowing you to travel to country x on a jolly.. but we don’t want anyone from country x coming here….

If you have not been vaccinated then you are as much of a risk going to the country x…..

It’s interesting that you pick on the eu though when for example us people can come here… but British people are barred from travelling to the us….

Same with Australia……

Same with Canada……

Well its "interesting" because thats what the article was about in the guardian to which I was referring. Its "interesting" to hear that the US, Canada and Australia are similar.

In any case travel needs to be managed better than we had done for the last 20 years.

Countries are still able to impose their own regime for incoming travellers, which is not the same as banning them. Having PCR testing before they travel is something that I think will largely continue here - and possibly several other countries. I don't see the UK giving open access to all EU citizens without any conditions, as mad as we've thought our government has been at times.

The greater opening for those with effective vaccinations behind them seems a more reasonable step, than giving anyone, jabbed or not, a free pass.

They've scheduled June as a possible start date but that could slip, of course. By July it will still be a minority of the population that could travel, having had 2 weeks immunity building after their 2nd dose, though I'm sure someone will correct me, if out on that.

Where will EU citizens want to travel to in the summer? I'm guessing many will want warmer holidays than here, perhaps most of them. If we get some who have had both doses, with enough time to develop good immunity, they're probably not going to be much of a problem and we will probably still impose testing before they travel, reducing the risk still further.

We still don't have the full details of our own plans for UK travellers, so that will give us a clearer indication of what is to happen. Hints say it's still about testing before each flight and that our app will indicate vaccine status for each person, although no details are known for those without smartphones.

Can’t wait to get over to USA to holiday / work .. hopefully not much longer for usa to open up as well to select countries
