While in a queue today in Iceland.. I overheard a lady say that " she can not wait to not have to wear her mask I'm June."

Her friend replied that " restrictions being eased wouldn't stop her wearing a mask for shopping etc"

This then began quite a heated argument between the pair.

But got me thinking...

Would you still wear a mask in June..even if guidelines say it's no longer required.

I probably will have to for work... and will do for flying etc.. ( which I hope can happen soon)

But I also will probably wear one still for shopping etc

But then I've been wearing one since about feb 2020 anyway

I would feel weird not wearing one now. I need to wear most of the day, I will continue to wear for the forseeable. I've no issues with masks and like the ones I have

They cover my mug too so win win

I will be continuing to wear a mask outside for the foreseeable even after I have had my second jab as the risks are still far to great and as a full time carer I have my family member to think of aswell as myself and others.

I only wear one now if it’s required and as soon as that requirement ends I will happily throw all mine in the bin. I find it quite dehumanizing to see us all with our faces half covered up and can’t wait to see the back of them. I spend a lot of time in the Far East and over there u see people wearing them a lot before the pandemic. I’m not sure what effect all the mask wearing has really had other than perhaps giving insecure people a feeling of safety when out.

yeah that was a very interesting plus that has come out of all of this with regards to the mask wearing and hand sanitizing etc. Was that the reduction in flu.. all those deaths from flu avoided. So yea I will be wearing it in winter months anyway.

Throughout the summer months doubt i will wear one though will carry one in case i am in an area where it feels uncomfortably overcrowded.

My hunch is that come autumn / winter it will be at least “advisory” to wear a mask and quite possibly mandatory in enclosed spaces.

I'll Prob wear mine to places where there are lots of people.. Pub, supermarket etc.. Hopefully will be able to do without it when chatting round the table in pub or cafe.. Not planning on going holiday anywhere, swing meets, clubbing, big festivals or indoor concerts etc until at least 2022 but if I was I would definitely be wearing one at those kind of things for sure

I find it very eye opening the amount of people on here who continue to be so terrified and ruled by this virus. There’s so many things that we do often in life that involve risk. Some of these people must sit at home wrapped in bubble wrap.

I think a mask will be always in my handbag as it has been for the duration of the pandemic, but like this forumite says, I will risk assess each situation and make my decision to wear one or not at that time.

to be fair I've just realised its somewhat ludicrous that I will keep wearing one in some situations but plan to go to clubs as soon as they open. Although socially only.

I've been very active throughout this pandemic though, between working and volunteering and still been able to go to motorsport stuff etc

I will be wearing them indoors but not outdoors, I rarely go to outdoor places where I cannot not be in a crowd of people, it's quite easy to distance my self from strangers, I will keep the hand sanitiser in my bag though and will keep on using my elbows to open doors

We only wear masks when legally required to do so. That will be the ongoing policy.

As for sanitiser etc. have never carried any and usually manage to avoid the over zealous people near the dispenser. Only at the dentist and the vaccination centre were these unavoidable.

Have never used elbows to open doors, nor have we washed our shopping etc.

We will probably wear masks on the ferry to France in the summer if we can go, as we did when we went last summer.

We haven't had, nor do we know anyone who has had covid even though we live in an area with allegedly high prevalence. Although we did all have a really nasty bug Christmas 2019 with all the covid symptoms but we keep getting told it can't be covid as it was too early.

last year when i was out and about quite a bit in the summer i got really used to wearing one even in the street from when i was abroad and so never thought twice just pretty much had it on as soon as i crossed the door

then ive been home for a full 5 months and totally out of the habit so they feel really weird on my face again when i went out today and kept forgetting i had to put it on to be up out of my seat in the cafe and stuff

i guess it will just depend what end of the spectrum i am at when they remove the need for them if i am happy to keep wearing or dying to get rid

will probably always keep them handy for public transport though

Even if covid completely disappears, we'll still have them on us. We normally pick up a cough or cold every few months and we've had none since we started wearing masks indoors. It would be great if people with coughs and colds followed the Asian example and wore them out of courtesy to others.

Absolutely, don't find it any inconvenience at all.

I've worn one all my working life, never had an issue.

But to be honest, the best thing to come out of this crisis would be an increased uptake of basic hygiene.

Keep washing those dirty mitts.

It never ceases to amaze me how many mums dont insist their kids wash hands after visiting the toilet or before handling food, or both in fast food restaurants.

It's important that we continue to subdue the virus as much as possible. A little effort as we continue is better than a major effort and costs in the medium term.

What I'm told for one and what I deem to be safe for another... I have got quite used to living in isolation I suppose. I'm not planning on rushing to change that for a while

It's clear that the idea that restrictions will be lifting on June 21st is not going to be happening .. So I don't think I'll be on my own with that one either ??

not really sure it's good to compare the two risks... as they would be going Bareback on rare occasions. The restrictions on social distancing are in most things.

One question I'm curious to those that won't wear a mask..( Saying won't as opposed to can't as for me there is a big difference.. ) why won't you ? Even if you don't believe it helps etc... the rule is still currently. Unless exempt ( choosing to refuse is not an exemption) so why wouldn't you?

I would like to be able to smile at people with more than just the crinkles of my eyes but have enjoyed not having any colds. Will be glad not to have to wear them for work, but doing so at work does force me to drink gallons of water which my body approves of so good and bad really.

Absolutely will continue to wear a mask in public settings after this. I don't want my coughs and germs harming other people and giving them colds and whatnot, nor do they want mine.

It will also probably be an easy way to vet certain people too.

Eg, those wearing masks publicly are demonstrating and practicing their awareness/concern for others health.

Those not wearing, are well...not.

Ofc, some of those not wearing may have other medical reasons for being exempt, but they are likely to be in a small percentage.

Sadly they will get lumped in with the non-wearers

I don't breathe through other parts of my body.

I accept the restrictions of wearing face coverings for the protection of society, but only for a very limited time and whilst mandated.

As soon as it's lifted they're going to be binned.

I’ll still be wearing one, (but won’t be as strict) mainly because I’ve not had a cold since before March last year and think the social distancing and mask wearing has a lot to do with that (along with people washing their hands more often) so for me. Long May it continue. I like feeling healthy lol

It will also probably be an easy way to vet certain people too.

Eg, those wearing masks publicly are demonstrating and practicing their awareness/concern for others health.

Those not wearing, are well...not.

Ofc, some of those not wearing may have other medical reasons for being exempt, but they are likely to be in a small percentage.

Sadly they will get lumped in with the non-wearers

So in future you' only play with people who are wearing masks.

It's a fetish I suppose.

I tend to do stuff cos it makes sense...

I put my hood up when it’s raining, cos it stops my hair getting wet.

I wear sunglasses when the sun is out cos they protect my eyes (and they make me look well cool).

I don’t wear a hard hat in a swimming pool and I don’t wear masks.... cos they don’t work. it’s scary how many folk think they do work? Imagine if they actually looked into it? They could stop looking like plonkers and look dead cool like me (in my sunglasses).

Why on earth would you ban them...especially if you suggest there is still an issue from other viruses.. yes..deregulate them definitely if the data suggest but what is wrong if some people want to continue to add a level of safety as a norm...packed tube train in the rush hour..why not ????

I think that's unproven. The fact that those susceptible to Flu would most likely have succumbed to Covid.

That said I can't think of a valid reason why banning face masks should be considered. At least Muslim women won't have to fear the French style legislation

We might just possibly look at other cultures where when they know they have a bad cold etc they wear a face covering to protect others and vice versa..?

Or are we too inherently arrogant and selfish as individuals?

The correlation between distancing and flu levels is startling. I'm not sure at what point that becomes causation, but I'm sure smarter people than me have looked at it.

If social distancing ends and things I wouldn’t be bothered if people stop wearing them. But I love social distancing haha!

However I think it would be really great if they became common place for poorly people nipping to the shop or such.

I use poorly lightly, we’ve all had tonsillitis or a cold and still worked/ gone about daily life.

It would be great to think people are a little more knowledgeable about stopping every day virus’ spread.

I’m NHS, I think they’ll stay for good there for staff and patients x

I'm sure that HFS helped but to suggest that a good part of those usual annual Flu deaths are not amongst the Covid deaths, considering the vast majority of both are in the same age groups is a stretch."
I will try to find the report but it was a proper one and showed a lot of evidence to suggest it will help. Not least that 2 years ago no one would have thought twice about going into work with a cough, cold or minor flu symptoms. Or shopping. X so as less people were going to be passing on flu/ colds/ or other bugs around.

I'm finding it difficult not seeing smiles and facial expressions. But it may well be prudent to continue wearing masks, especially in crowded indoor areas and in the winter. I also rely on public transport to get to work and I don't see myself discarding my masks for a while.

What I won't be doing is jumping into doing everything in late June. I'd rather wait a while, see if infection rates rise. So far so good in that regard but I'm going to be a bit cautious.

I find it quite abhorrent that some folks find it quite acceptable to go in to their workplace bearing a cold and then cough and sneeze all over the place, passing it on to their work colleagues.

Open plan offices exacerbate this contagion.

A placed I once worked had some bullshit macho culture where it was seen as a mark of honour to come in with a streaming cold. I advised my staff that if they pulled that nonsense with me, they'd be sent home and words would be had on their return over their flippant attitude to the well-being of their work colleagues, myself included. Staff have a duty of care to their colleagues.

If you are not well, stay the flip at home and get better.
