I’ll tell you in May.

Most seem to have adapted to circumstances and offered food throughout lockdown via delivery services, a pure pub is rare here they’ve disappeared over the last 10-12 years.

We've been out and about supporting as many as we can. By Sunday we had been to 6 different pubs (2 twice) and eaten at 3 of them. If you want them to stay open then use them....

None around here as far as I know. One has decided to remain closed as their outside space is limited, one has said on their fb that they've had a lot of people not showing up ~ that will be a problem for a lot of places. The others have always been busy when I've gone past. It's nice to hear the laughter and the chatter

With every dip in the economy there’s always company’s that fail and in their wake companies spring up too . It’s fact . I know covid has made it harder on certain industries but others have prospered .

No holidays.......

Do up the house , new kitchen or bathroom it benefits builders and building industry and adds value to your property . Win win

If a pub shuts , in a few months another will open if it’s wanted in that area .

if there’s a gap in the market it’ll get filled.

As with recession there’s always an upturn

I look at positives rather than negatives

You can buy four pints in a tin from the shop for the same price as a pint in a pub..

The pub trade was in severe trouble before covid. It certainly hasn’t helped but between 2000 and 2018 had seen 22% of pubs close (stats House of Commons Library) often due to pubcos making more profit by selling the building than selling beer.

yes, no massive business rates, no wages, no extortionate electricity bills or gas bills, no pyramid price listings where the smaller the premises, the more expensive the beer is. For example Wetherspoons pay a pittance and sell cheap but a small single pub pays double for the same product.

There are two things that have really damaged the pub industry. Pub Companies as a whole, they keep prices high and landlords poor. The worst thing for pubs though is the fact that alcohol is available 24/7 in almost every shop in the country for a fraction of the price that pubs can sell for... often cheaper than they can even buy for.

I would love to see a return to alcohol sales being restricted to pubs & off-licences.

2 of my local pubs stopped serving my favourite draft lager and started stocking bottles instead!!! They are selling them for more than twice the price I’d pay in a supermarket.

One always expects to pay a premium for drinks in a pub for obvious reasons, but when I have to compromise on what I go out for, and pay double for it, then they lose out.

Unfortunately there will be quite a few that will close for good. Hospitality in general operates on tight profit margins in order with customer expectations and compete in a saturated market. I know of several pubs, nightclubs and restaurants that will not open their doors again. Over the year they may be more forced to close due to staff shortages. A lot of chefs and experienced front of house staff have secured employment in other industries, a lot have returned to their home countries and have decided not to return to the hospitality industry. Those businesses who survive, will do, by providing a quality product and service, but most importantly Luck.

It’s still too early to fully assess the impact on pubs/bars (and especially nightclubs) as with social distancing rules capacity on venues will be reduced. This will have the biggest impact on bars/pubs who on weekends would have been full to capacity, so reduced numbers will hit profitability

They were in trouble long before covid-19, we don't have any stand alone pubs anymore, it's all restaurants with a bar, that started 10 years ago as people stopped going to the pub, they went out for meals instead so they had to evolve or perish
