Morrison's don't have door control or staff any more. B&Q don't control directions any more. In most stores there are more than two allowed.

The times they are a changing.

As a general rule, I've found that the rules in larger shops have been less strict in lockdown 2 than they were in lockdown 1. Very few have implemented one way system or "solo" shoppers only this time.

I never use the provided sanitiser!

It's normally some questionable white opaque industrial bottle with an ill fitting pump top.

I noticed that in my local morrisons today actually. Tesco haven't re-introduced theirs yet.

But I haven't seen a one way system in any major retailer since lockdown 1.

That loads of people have touched before they've used it! I take my own to.

Every single shop I go in that were able to stay open have got really slack. The ones that only opened last Monday seem a bit more stringent but I do wonder how long that will last!

Ps I'm disappointed with Ikea

lockdown 1 was a whole different animal to the one we've just had.. no click and collect.. no fast food.. no schools.

progress I hope. I've been working a year in covid front line and desperately want to get to a semblance of normality.. People seem to think time has stood still but infact it's running out for some like the relationship between my kids and their dementia riddled nan as just one example let alone for livelihoods.

it's been interesting talking to people who've barely left the house for a year.. they're terrified... so much more than those of us that have been out here

I agree it's great news. The quicker we get back to normal (not some bizarre new normal) the better.

One way systems and limits o one shopper per household were never government mandated anyway and made little sense or helped with safety.

It was doing something, anything, for the sake of being seen to.

Some of the measures being relaxed I get... Some though are just unhygienic practises we are going back to... As an example Touch screens are disgustingly unhygienic... Foecal matter being one of many things left on them. Liken that bowl of piss soaked peanuts left on the pub bar in days of old.

Lets learn our lessons and keep from spreading diseases to strangers.

i wonder if they can be sprayed daily with something that protects even after touch, isnt that what they do with cash machines - 72 hr disinfected

There are products out there. Phones ipads and tablets being shared are one of the biggest infection spreaders.... There is a nanotech spray that does what you say... But it's a bit like selling the emperors new clothes... You can't see it, feel it, smell it so its a tough sell!

I always carry a bottle sanitiser so I feel protected as I have noticed since last year and this year even though shops have it at the entrance for customers but noticed many don't bother using this and I show that I have a bottle to staff as I enter but also noticed whilst there is a self pay Via card in Wilkinson the equipment doesn't get wiped before each customer and I limit what I touch only what I'm looking for and having to avoid others when they just walk around like their isn't still a two meter rule plus in my town center their is marking on the path so either people walk one way or another as directed which is just ignored think should introduce fines for simply disobeying an instruction like highway code

i guess if you are sanitising your own hands it probably doesn’t matter if someone else has touched the bottle of sanitizer at the door or the self service / touch screens- as soon as you have touched it your own hands get cleaned so anything you picked up is gone really

in not too fussed that its not the best looking pumps at the front of shops either, thats just because they are buying in large bulk and refilling for cost efficiency - i generally always have my own because it smells much better but it does the job if you missed it from one of your jacket pockets

The limits to single shoppers made sense, due to people living together being more likely to all having an infection, if 1 did. 2 or more walking around a shop would shed double the virus levels of 1 person, making it much easier for others to get infected.

It was a sensible concept, to reduce infection transmission.

Near me they ask you to shop alone but dont enforce it anymore. One way was got rid of due to causing bottle necks according to most places.

I have noticed for quite some time people doing less and less hygiene related checks. I always use my own hand sanitizer.

They are still limiting numbers in most of my shops and I've had to queue to get in several times lately.

The thing is we talk about this like its special. If the last 15 months have taught us nothing it's that we are mostly a pretty disgusting lot. Who need protecting from eachother and ourselves. Why would we NOT wipe down trolleys and baskets and touch screens and clean doors and handles and shelves that the grubby public have been fingering and sneezing and coughing on as a matter of course? It's something our good old nans would have done. They knew stuff. Laziness arrogance and stupidity in the name of progress brought us to this place where we think that being clean and hygienic is a strange new habit.

would they really have though? surely there is such a thing as being too sterile , im sure in the last few decades that has taken the blame for more child allergies (although i don’t know where i got this snippet of info from , i can promise not facebook at least )

and me personally , I’ve been in my own wee bubble so long , i spent a few hours outside with friends last week and I’ve so far been completely floored for 4 days because my immune system was not equipped to handle whatever i’ve picked up from one of them

Perhaps. I mean like all things in life there is balance to be had. It's why mums have chicken pox parties so their kids can share germs and infect eachother and build immunity. I'm just saying a lot of the things we make a fuss about now are things our grandparents took for granted... Covering your mouth when you cough, wiping cutlery in cafes and restaurants with a napkin, washing hands as soon as you get in, not touching your face after handling money, not fingering stuff in shops you don't intend buying, restaurants cleaning tables properly between covers, boiling washing to kill germs, not spitting... to name but a few.

Yes, I don’t know about everyone else but we’ve gone over a year without so much as a cold, which just never happens. It’s a clear demonstration of how about of routine hygiene can benefit everyone. The very basics are always going to be a good idea.

Money spreads more germs than any other route. Can't and never did see many washing their hands or sanitizing after every till or machine use. Most germs are good and help with immunity. Taking greater care during the flu months has always been a good idea. I have always used sanitizer and always insisted it was in the workplace.

Germ parties for kids has always been a good thing. Letting kids get dirty in the garden has always been a good thing. And they will always be good things.

As for ikea, watch for cameras on the self service tills, installed by scammers. Tap and pay is what they are after. Your details can then be used in France and other countries which only need long number and expiry date. I was caught in Southampton.
