"Was always going to happen, most people think it’s all over , it ain’t not by a long way " It's what happens when people have been forcibly split up and told to stay at home for too long. It comes as no surprise that it went to some peoples heads a little, both in the pubs and in the shops

"Slightly off topic, but isn't it strange that the virus is intelligent enough to only attack 30 people at a funeral or 15 at a wedding in a church and completely ignore the hundreds queuing and going into the closing down sales at Debenhams in Manchester.." It just comes down to economics really. The closing down sales (and shopping in general) contribute more to the economy than guests at a wedding do. Furlough and vaccines gotta be paid for somehow.

"I think some of it depends on the pub management too. I didn't go but spoke to a friend who did. He said there were some people standing and moving between tables to chat and the landlord came out and told them to stay at their own table or leave. The landlords don't want closing down again so the decent ones will do their best to ensure rules are followed. " Yes indeed this ..... if it’s not done properly we will all be back in lockdown. It can be done and I’m really looking forward to the weekend just hope the selfish few who ignore the rules don’t spoil it for the rest of us.

When you feel like all you're doing is nagging people you have fuck all job satisfaction and being told to lighten up by those you're reminding of the rules can also make ya feel quite worthless. You see, when people are behaving in a way that could get you closed down, what they're actually saying to me is "fuck it, I don't care if you lose your job, and then your home coz you can't pay your rent because of me, I'M more important"

Isn’t it strange that some people don’t have understand arbitrary numbers have to be drawn somewhere else it would have to remain zero for weddings and zero for shopping queues... Queues outside are far less likely to be super spreader events than is the case with family and friends in prolonged close contact and mingling around at weddings. In a queue you could possibly infect the person in front and the person behind but at a wedding of 30 for 12 hours you could very easily and unknowingly infect 20 guests and some staff as well . The health advisors would rather we had no weddings or queues until we have 80% with both doses of vaccine. It’s a difficult line between minimising Covid deaths and minimising other deaths that result as an effect of a broken economy, more suicides and reduced healthcare provision due to the black hole in tax revenues... we just need people to use a bit of common sense, unfortunately it’s far less common than it’s label suggests

Policies are required which manage need, risk, human emotions/psychology, etc. Whether they're sensible or not, to say "the virus is less contagious at a funeral because Boris said so" is a profound, perhaps wilful, misunderstanding of public policy.

But people mock the policies because there's an arbitrary line. I mean... There has to be? Why is a seventeen year old limited in consumption of alcohol the day before their 18th birthday, but the day after they can do what they like? Are they suddenly significantly more mature and no longer childlike, impulsive, etc? It's clearly a nonsense - maturation is a spectrum - but a line has to be drawn. Same here.

Simple really" Penny for a pound that the pub punters would simply ignore all of the last years' lockdown restrictions and revert to do whatever they want. Also doesn't surprise me that the landlords did nothing and turned a blind eye to the rules governing social distancing as long as their tills were ringing with money going in. Just hope the same individuals don't bleat and moan and then throw their teddies out the pram if we have a third wave hit us.

I keep hearing this ‘surge in cases’ but I’m afraid cases mean absolutely nothing. Check the hospital admissions and deaths, both of which are very low. If the vaccine does as we have been told, it would appear we have nothing to worry about. I’m sure the landlords wouldn’t want you to ‘show some restraint’.... but if you want to then that’s fine.. I know when we opened for those brief months between lockdowns we and other sites were getting checked and failure to comply meant closure. So nah, I don't think the landlords will be too chuffed at that. 4th lockdown? We had March- July then October- now. That's 2 is it not? " Actually it was Nov 5th until now

"And? What’s the problem with people out having fun and socialising? Heaven forbid they should actually mix with people outside their household. As I originally stated, the vaccine is in play, the elderly and the vulnerable are vaccinated... deaths are on the floor. I think it may be you that doesn’t ‘get it’. Have a bit of faith in the vaccine and If you don’t wanna go out then don’t. Simple. Ah yes, the vaccine that the majority of staff in pubs haven't had yet. How considerate of you. Yes, go out if you want. But follow the rules and don't forget, those strangers you're telling people to "mix with" may actually be really happy keeping a safe distance from other people..... coz that's what they're expecting, with it being the rules and all. Hmmmm... I wasn’t aware of a surge in pub and bar staff being hospitalised last year? You don’t get many 70 odd year olds working in the pub. I work in hospitality and people telling others to mix with strangers and thinking it's ok leaves me with my head in my hands. All it takes is 1 person getting lax or mixing with someone who's not on their table and whoosh. Staff are seen as not complying with or enforcing the rules and jobs lost. It's unfair on the staff it really is. They're doing a job.

I wouldn’t call you selfish for it though.... and I wouldn’t call the people out enjoying themselves idiots. Life is good! "Can't understand why anyone would want to go to the pub anyway. Full of people, and selling overpriced food and drink. It's called socialising " I agree, I went to pub yesterday, social distancing, no one moving between tables and bar service. Only able to go inside was for loo and one way in one way out

" "Hugging and a Kissing in the back row"? With Fred? Or is that before your time?! " Calm down dear, nobody mentioned anything about breaking any of the rules and regulations! Heaven forbid!" The OP said "all restrictions went out the window". So yes, heaven forbid indeed. Maybe we can get our lives back gradually and end this mess if people behave

That’s actually incorrect, you’re not allowed to sit with people you don’t know, it doesn’t say anything about sitting near people you don’t know. Getting out of the house, being with other people is all good. I’m not saying go and sit on their knee, slobber all over them, just mix, be with others outside your bubble, it’s great.... and no doubt it’s a big help to the lonely people in this world, perhaps suffering mental health issues, struggling with everything that’s going on and spending the last, god knows how many months, in isolation. Getting out and seeing and mixing with others must feel wonderful. Good on them, life is for living!!

It’s so short sighted to not play by the rules and utterly self centred. I’m sure the landlords won’t thank you when they’re locked down for Christmas again should the worst happen. Just grow up a teeny tiny little bit and try and think of the bigger picture. It’ll be the fourth lockdown actually, but who’s counting eh! What are you afraid of? I keep hearing this ‘surge in cases’ but I’m afraid cases mean absolutely nothing. Check the hospital admissions and deaths, both of which are very low. If the vaccine does as we have been told, it would appear we have nothing to worry about. I’m sure the landlords wouldn’t want you to ‘show some restraint’.... but if you want to then that’s fine.. I wouldn’t call you selfish for it though.... and I wouldn’t call the people out enjoying themselves idiots. Life is good! Enjoy it x I’m not sure if you can’t read or are deliberately being obtuse ...... You read it back and tell me... Can’t tell you what I really think or I’ll get banned Haha! Yeh I had noticed you are very quick to get personal with people! Life’s to short for all that. Enjoy x Well let’s be honest it’s very personal to the people who you’re upsetting with your views sooooo back at ya. Oh but what about the people you are upsetting with your views? There are two sides to this argument... and just because it’s your side doesn’t make it the ‘right’ side. My views are follow the guidelines be considerate of others and don’t be a selfish twat. Who would be upset by that? Maybe some of the people you have labelled ‘idiots’, ‘twats’ or ‘utterly self centred’ might be upset. After all, what are they doing wrong? Going out and having a good time, Enjoying life, meeting new people. It’s hardly that bad is it? Live and let live I say. Well if they’re breaking guidelines and not caring about bar staff, landlords the economy or businesses waiting to open them believe me utterly self centred is really a tame way of describing them. Live abs let live isn’t really applicable when what you do literally affects others lives and livelihoods. Breaking the guidelines? They are out, are they not allowed out of their houses? should they be hiding in their house so they don’t pass the virus on to someone that is seriously at risk from Covid? Oh hang on... aren’t they all vaccinated... As I said before, you don’t have to go out if you don’t want to...but you really shouldn’t be so angry at the folk that do. " The thread is about pubs and whether guidelines are adhered to ... someone up thread said he hadn’t as he watched men chatting up his wife and found it hot. Going out is fabulous going to the pub is fabulous! Putting your kicks ahead of anything else and breaking guidelines isn’t. I really don’t know what you’re referring too no one said going out wasn’t allowed or to be discouraged. The inflammatory language you’re using to try and insinuate that people being careful are hiding is just ridiculous. So to state again as you appear to be missing the point .. going out and adhering to guidelines = good going out ignoring guidelines abs social distancing putting lives and livelihoods at risk = bad

" Going to the pub, sitting near people you don’t know! Mixing with strangers.... Taking in the atmosphere, your know living life n that... it’s nothing sinister, just people out having a good time. I see no problem at all with that, I’m all for it. The Government do, you are not meant to be sitting next to people you don't know. Getting out of the house, being with other people is all good. If you act like you say you are in the post I quoted then you would be breaking covid rules and the pub could get a big fine If however I read it wrong, then sitting in a pub in a party of 6 or less people that you entered with and no mixing with other tables then that is not against rules

"Spare a thought for those poor souls who live near pub's. We just walked round to our local co-op to get some cat food and past our local pub. Must have been 20 or so people sitting outside from the noise honestly thought that there was double that. " *sigh* I overlook a pub I've enjoyed the peace

" "Hugging and a Kissing in the back row"? With Fred? Or is that before your time?! Fred was in the back seat of a car with 7 little girls (hopefully I'm allowed to say that) while the driver was being told to keep his eyes on the driving. Who was in the back row at the movies, I'm not sure. That one was after my time!" Oh that's true... It was on a Saturday night though

But you kept mentioning mixing with strangers, which, given the thread subject and OP, comes across as literally mixing with strangers. Going up and taking to them etc.

And now people are just picking quotes out, with no context, and choosing to lecture me. That’s fine, I’m a big boy and I stand by everything I have said in this thread.

" no bee in my bonnet or offence here , but if we include me i read at least 5 folk that “misconstrued” what you said, so maybe the issue was with what you said being repeatedly the opposite of what you now say you meant - other people cannot be expected to take the opposite meaning from the words you put on the page and predict an alternative meaning “mixing with strangers”, “meeting new people is it really all that bad” , “just trust the vaccine anyone at risk has had it” ... to me you knew exactly what you were saying so if its not what you meant it had to be trolling

"Back to the OP....went out to a pub with friends last night...had a table allocated....no one was jumping between tables...very well organised and a very relaxed evening. There was also a visit from a council official who's job is to ensure the rules are being followed and the have the power to close any establishment that is breaking the rules so its in the pub's interest to follow them." Glad you had a nice safe evening

" To be fair it wasn't out of context, it was your post in it's entirety. I can't figure out whether your words came across totally different than you wanted them to or that you are backtracking but please don't imply people are picking on you. challenging what you said is not picking on you.

It'll stop infiltrators whod be gone again as soon as their usual haunt reopens leaving the local for the regulars who keep the place going day in day out year after year rather than them being kicked out.

My impression of pubs being horribly unwelcoming places where you're only welcome if your face fits is obviously correct. Good job I don't want to go to one then! Nor can my wheelchair get into many of them and not one person has ever cared on nights out (apart from me).
