I am doing it anyway. It takes about 5-10 minutes tops so I don’t see the harm, if I need to do that to go back to clubs etc where is the problem?

I understand there may be a different viewpoint with regards to resources but from a civil liberties and safety point of view I am all for it

I do it twice a week anyway, they do need to put in a financial package though as some people are not testing as they cannot afford to be off work for two weeks

That is what is on offer and has been happening for the last six weeks.

Flaw people don’t do it, that’s their choice but it’s there for those that want to do it.

You have to wonder why this wasn't the tactic in the first place.

There is obviously the possibility that people will choose to "not" isolate or even test, but generally you would assume the majority will do as they're supposed to... We did end to send a whole year group home from school last week, because we had one child who's parents tested positive BUT still sent their child to school. It was only discovered because we have had several positive tests from within that year-group.

It's been shown that those in more deprived areas are less likely to test - possibly because they can't afford to isolate. That needs to be fixed.

No they aren't.

The tests are self administered, if you test positive you will then apply for a "Propper" test which is checked by a lab.

None of the tests are actually ideal for harvesting DNA anyway. The samples are collected from Mucus Membrains, these contain little to no DNA. If the wanted to collect DNA they would ask for blood tests or cheek swabs.

That's a big if there Bob.

And stopped the 20k a week untested hauliers crossing the Channel and the 100s of thousands a week air travellers. But yes... Its within our gift to close those down to very manageable numbers.

That would require a sensible plan, strong leadership, clear communication, a population who do as they need to, strong enforcement.

Hey we are still making slow progress.... Let's hope we make enough before winter returns in October...

I don't know. I do know that earlier in the year, Perth Western Australia had one or two cases and 60 000 people got themselves tested just in case.

I am on 5 tests a week and in fact last week required 7 days. I do pcr testing twice a week and LFT tests 3 times a week normally

Thats like a potential of 260 million tests over a two week period and would have to test all arrivals in the UK, great in principle but the logistics would be intense

Impossible as the only info entered is a QR code and the result ! If at work It’s then binned with all the other tests done in the Hazardous waste.. or binned in your own home .

most high school kids are doing it anyway as well a lot of front line workers

ironically I've been working security on a pilot home test collection centre and its been quiet.. even my team haven't picked any up tho the council and bus drivers been picking them up and several factories have asked for bulk test kits but they need to order centrally

The testing part takes a couple of minutes to set up & swab. Then set your timer for 30 minutes & do whatever, check result when time is up, send via NHS app & jobs a good one.

Sitting watching a lateral flow test develop is not part of the test.

With the lateral flow at home test it takes only a minute to do the test, you don’t have to sit and stare at the test for 30 minutes whilst it works. You simply take the swab. Swill it in the extraction solution. Put 2 drops of the solution onto the pregnancy test device. Get on with life. 30 minutes or more later check if there is 1 line for negative or 2 lines for positive.

Few people can afford to isolate has been the key failure of this regime, despite the shed load of money chucked around elsewhere.

People should have been given money to isolate that ensured they could afford to. It's a no brainer..

Testing is valuable if people do it and can afford to take appropriate steps if they are infected. If it's just the worried well doing it, we're missing the mark.

I think there could be use of these to give some people some confidence and to support appropriate engagement. As authorities won't know who gets a positive result unless someone reports them, it has limitations and I doubt few people will do twice weekly tests.

I have ordered some but I won't be doing it twice a week.

The reason being is at the moment I am not really going out except occasionally to the local co-op so I would only use it if I'd been out with other people was going to go out with other people.

the heal prick test all new babies get... ( btw not saying that they are collecting DNA, just that all babies have it done and its recorded etc)

If you throw a positive flow test then you need to book a pcr test to confirm the positive

These twice weekly tests are completely done at home, not involving a lab. Positive results should then have you ordering a PCR test, which would be processed in a lab, whilst you isolate. This is an extension of what's done for thousands every day, for work etc
