Ladywell, Lewisham.

Qantas Airways chief executive says if you NOT vaccinated , sorry you won’t be Flying with them.

If you are VACCINATED and you have PROOF of vaccination, you a Flying with them.

Simple as that.

Well unless there's a 'traffic bubble' then vaccination isn't actually mandatory to fly with them.

It also means no children can fly so that'll cut their profit down as family holidays is a huge revenue stream.

Be interesting to see what actually happens in October, and if they actually start flying again with that policy.

That was last November. Also at the same time they announce losses of £1 billion.

Sensible way to make sure you stay in business.

Why should proof of (previous) infection carry any less weight? I mean if you've survived it that's got to be worth something surely?

They have made it very clear that there will be exemption for those who can't have the vaccine as have several other companies who have said that vaccine will be a requirement of booking.

If you have had it they do not know how strong your anti bodies are or when you had it

Qantas were 1 of the first to plan this and it makes some sense. I'd be comfortable flying with them again

They don't know that from vaccinated people either.

Which is how all airlines should and probably will go in the future..

Its going to be the only sensible thing to do to create a safe environment for travellers to feel confident about once we start moving around the globe again in large numbers ..

If the UK creates a travel corridor then you can fly with Qantas without vaccines. The headline looks good but the devil is in the detail.

Until travel corridors or travel bubbles are established they won't actually be flying there, so it's a click bait headline.

Not for Airlines, we would not be in this mess in the first place.

Governments should have stopped all flights last Jan until they knew what they were dealing with. It is time we stopped listening to them bleeting how unfair restrictions are and take some responsibility - as it seems Quantas seem to be doing here.

No sympathy for companies willing to infect whole countries in the name of profit.

The CEO stuck his neck out for a principle - and can be applauded for that. It's too easy to wait for others to act or to act minimally, rather than standing up for what you see as right.

Australian borders are currently closed, and getting to Australia is complicated - but one can still make bold plans for the future.

Princes Risborough, Luasanne, Alderney

what destinations are there to fly to with this new global third wave?

Fully approve of this, I believe that it should be a prerequisite of international travel for the immediate future and into 2022.

However I think the infection rates in the destination countries will have a big bearing on allowable travel. If they are high, inoculation or no, there’s a chance of bringing different strains back and we may find ourselves in the same position as last year where countries are added or taken off the no fly list at short notice.

Equally, they don't know if you've have the vaccine how strong YOUR antibodies are ... the strength of each person's immune response will vary according to various factors eg age, immunosuppression etc

But he didn't. Their website clearly says "There is no suggestion that a vaccine would be required for domestic travel and probably not for countries with which Australia might form a ‘travel bubble’ (e.g. New Zealand)."

In a situation where travel elsewhere is almost entirely prohibited by the Australian federal government and has and vaccination has only just started in Australia.

He was one of the first to come out and say vaccines would be required. Risked being labelled a zealot, etc, although I think read the room re Australian attitudes well.

I think some people think because it's not applicable to the UK yet and won't be for awhile, means it's meaningless? Australian company (ish) takes stand in Australia about matters concerning Australia. UK involvement not required.

I think the point here is that Quantas have established the principle that in the general global case they can require proof of vaccination. They may then selectively relax that requirement for flights within what they regard as a safe bubble eg. internal flights and NZ. But they could then decide to tighten the requirement or reduce the size of their declared bubble as necessary to maintain biosecurity.

Let us not forget that the very fast closure of travel routes in AUS and NZ last spring, although will have impacted on their airline finances and lost money in tourism, have allowed their economies to stay healthy. Unlike the UK which decided that it would cost too much to lose a few hundred million pounds worth of air traffic and tourism, and instead has suffered a hit of hundreds of billions of pounds to the economy, 130,000+ deaths, and vast disruption to society for more than twelve months.

It is quite possible that the UK government may decide that it will not impose vaccination requirements for flights; this will be utterly meaningless though if either the destination countries or foreign owned airlines decide that they are going to unilaterally impose the requirements.

My belief is that over the next few years we will see the countries that have handled covid well becoming new economic leaders, and countries that have cocked it up becoming economic also rans. The covid free well off countries may form travel bubbles amongst themselves, but will generally recognise that it is good biosecurity measures that have kept them wealthy and hence be very slow at reducing those measures, rapid at re-introducing them if needed.

Some of the countries that have fallen behind (most of Europe amongst others) will realise that the only way to climb back up and ever get accepted back into that first class will be to sort out their biosecurity, and spend five years or so recovering all the ground that they threw away during the first three months of the pandemic last year. These countries will sooner or later realise that they have to enforce borders, vaccinations, internal travel restrictions if flare ups occur, and basically take no shit from what will become known as bio-terrorists - anti vaxxers, couldn't care lessers, disease deniers...

All the rest of the countries are on a one-way ticket to joining the third world. Movement restrictions will be imposed upon them from the outside, and their economies will gradually fall through the floor. Whether airlines have vaccination requirements or not will have very little concern for these countries, as 99% of their population will not be able to afford travel again during their lifetimes.

Welcome to the new order folks!
