There is no fixed road map as such like Englands, the youngest children went back to school a few weeks ago but juniors and comps are still off, going back in variois formats from next Monday. I think Drakeford is expected to give some more insight into how he plans to move forward on Friday, at the 3 weekly review, although it is widely expected he will be cautious

"Great news, 1 reported death here today. "

The issue we have in England is that 60 to 70% of population are dicks that the Government can not legislate for.. schools back today, looked more like the 21st june round here. People think its all over..

I'm quite sure there are no more or less dicks in Wales. We have had harsher and longer lockdowns that are less open to interpretation so easier to police. For example exercise has to be from home unless you have a disability that requires travel to the nearest safe place. This means you can't avoid a fine if stopped away from home by arguing that your journey was local so less people are taking the risk.

There are plenty of people bending and outright breaking the rules here too. We don't have any particularly large urban areas (London has a population nearly 3 times as large as the whole of Wales) which also makes a significant difference.

I would also add that there is a vastly different population and population density.

England has a population 18 times larger and although our deaths are more than 18 time higher a larger population and higher population density would lead to far greater number of people with covid.

That being said any part of the U.K. heading to 0 covid deaths is good news. But I don’t think we will ever be a constant 0 death level but we need to get to a level we are happy to accept as a risk of life.

Yes. I heard recently that, averaged over a year, the US accepts 100 deaths a day from flu.

It got me thinking more about acceptable background rates of death.

Yes I would estimate it’s much higher than that. An average year in the U.K. we have 25,000 flu deaths in a bad year is 50,000.

Now these occur normally between September and March. But if you average out over the whole year that’s between 68 snd 137 per day. If you count just over the flu season that’s 137 to 274 per day.

Today we had 65. So we are already below an average flu year if counted annually and well below if counted during flu season. Given there are no flu deaths this year we are now running at below average deaths. So less people per day than in the previous 5 per covid years.

It’s all about perspective and perceived risk.
