A walk on the beach can be quite dangerous ... please wear appropriate footwear, take a first aid kit and let someone know where and what you are doing, and in the event of not returning after a suitable length of time, the emergency number for the coastguard ....

On a mooch

From the government site

Travel

The ‘stay at home’ rule will end on 29 March but many restrictions will remain in place. People should continue to work from home where they can and minimise the number of journeys they make where possible, avoiding travel at the busiest times and routes. Travel abroad will continue to be prohibited, other than for a small number of permitted reasons. Holidays abroad will not be allowed, given it will remain important to manage the risk of imported variants and protect the vaccination programme. The government has launched a new taskforce to review global travel which will report on 12 April.

My understanding is that travelling outside your local area could potentially be lifted from 29th March. Obviously depending on the data around that time.

Nothing however set in stone and its simpley a case of wait and see. (or Sea as we're referring to a walk along the beach)

"ps what's the difference in me being able to travel large distances for work... its mental

As _naswingdress said, the measures are a series of compromises.

Clearly having to travel large distances for work is exposing you and the people you come into contact with to greater risk than people who are able to work from home, but the risk is 'justified' as it enables some semblance of normality for some businesses and social care.

Visiting a hospital or school with a camera crew as part of his job is hardly going on a jolly.

Restrictions for travelling to Scotland won't be lifted 12 April. We remain in lockdown until 26th April and then return to the tier system. Only a handful of areas currently have rates low enough that would allow people to move between areas. i.e. level 2 and below.

You can travel out of your area from the 29th of March. Then overnight stays in your household bubble are allowed in some self catering accommodation from the 12th of April if Boris and the data allows.

The controls will never be released. I would not be surprised to find nothing will change. The travel situation will broadly speaking be like this until September. And then extended to December. The psychologists have noted the responses to having impositions heaped on the people and the responses are meek surrender.

Didnt people travel to jobs and stay with landladies and boarding houses then as the public transport either did not exist or took too long and cost too much. Now we think nothing of jumping in our cars and doing 100 mile round trip for work. Or jumping on a plane for a day for a meeting.? Our culture is very different in very many ways now to 50 years ago. Some for better some not so much.

No, he has a degree of responsibility to lead by example. He can be plenty visible by zoom from Downing Street, explaining how everybody has to do their bit. When there is flooding along a river, Mr Johnson is not needed there in person. He could be seen at number 10 communicating by video link with locals on the spot, he could ensure funds and resources are made available, he could review flood management arrangements so that future flooding can be avoided.

What is not necessary, what it absolutely an appallingly bad use of the country's leader during a global crisis, is Mr Johnson stood on a riverbank pointing at water while getting his photograph taken. (flood visit was a recent stunt in my own area, less than a mile from where I live)

If Mr Johnson stays in his office he can provide executive attention to five different crises in one day, with no unnecessary travel around the country. While a day trip to look at floods, or a hospital, or - well anything really - is not just an entire day of his (supposedly) valuable time wasted, but also a bad example of dozens of people travelling hundreds of miles and potentially spreading new variants far and wide.

Is that trip vital? No? Then don't do it Mr Johnson.

Coming out of Lockdown.

There will be no regional tier systems - England will be treated as one in the easing of lockdown.

Step One: 8 March and 29 March

8 March

• All schools and colleges in England will reopen, while all childcare can resume

• Secondary school pupils will have to wear facemasks initially while staff in all schools are advised to wear masks.

• All secondary and college pupils will be tested twice a week, at school for the first two weeks then at home

• All households with school children, members of their support and childcare bubbles, and those in related occupations will be encouraged to be tested regularly

• All breakfast and after-school clubs can restart

• University students on practical courses can return but others will have to continue with online lessons. This will be reviewed over the Easter holidays

• One person will be able to meet one other person from another household outside for recreation, not just exercise

• This will mean two people can meet for a picnic or sit on a bench with a coffee but they cannot play tennis or golf

• Care home residents will be allowed one named visitor.

29 March

• Up to six people from different households or a larger group from two households can meet outside, including in private gardens

• Outdoor sports facilities can reopen and organised outdoor sports can take place for children and adults

• From this point, the government will drop the "Stay at Home" message and will instead encourage people to stay local wherever they can

• People will still have to work from home where possible and no overseas travel, apart from necessary work, will be allowed.

Step Two: 12 April

• Non-essential retail, including hairdressers and beauty salons, can reopen

• Libraries, museums, zoos, theme parks and gyms can open - but no indoor mixing of different households allowed

• Outdoor hospitality can reopen, including pubs and restaurants - with the rule of six or a larger group from two households

• Customers will not have to buy a substantial meal to have an alcoholic drink and there will be no curfew but people will have to be seated when ordering and eating or drinking

• Self-catering holidays in the UK with your own household will be allowed

• Funerals of up to 30 people. Weddings and wakes of up to 15 people.

Step Three: 17 May

• Outdoors, most social contact rules will be lifted, but gatherings of more than 30 will be illegal

• Indoors, the rule of six or a larger group of up to two households will be allowed

• Indoor hospitality - pubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, concert halls, children play areas, hotels, B&Bs, indoor exercise classes - will be allowed

• Advice on social distancing between family and friends, including hugging, will be updated no later than 17 May

• Large indoor performances and sporting events with a capacity of 1,000 people will be allowed

• Outdoor large performances and sporting events will have a maximum capacity of 4,000 people or must only be half full, whichever is lower

• Bigger sports stadiums will be allowed 10,000 people or can only be a quarter full, whichever is lower

• Testing will be used to support these openings

• Weddings, wedding receptions, wakes, funerals and christenings will be allowed with 30 people.

Step Four: 21 June

• All legal limits on social contact removed

• Government hopes to reopen nightclubs and lift restrictions on large events such as festivals

• Testing could be used as a condition of entry

• Ministers hope to remove restrictions on weddings

Yet to be decided

There are a few rules and issues that have not yet been agreed and will be subject to review during the easing of lockdown.

1. The one-metre plus rule, mandatory facemasks and working from home

The government hopes to conclude a review of this before step four.

2. Whether you can use proof of having a COVID-19 vaccine to enter mass events

The government hopes to set out the conclusion of a review prior to step four on whether vaccine or test certificates could be used to reopen the rest of the economy.

3. International travel

The government has said this will not resume before 17 May following a review that will be completed by 12 April.

4. Major events

The government has said testing could be used to ensure people can safely attend large events.

"My god when are we just going to do as we like, and stop waiting for permission from people who don't have a clue. The longer we let them control us the more they will control us,enough is enough. "

I do hope this is a fake profile.. if not I'd love to see the evidence of your hypothesis. And not from social media or a Mr Bolsonaro or Mr Trump. What is your enough is enough refer to?

On another note, are you employed and have to work, not because you do it for fun? Rent a property or have a mortgage? Have a loan, bank account, use electricity not generated by yourself?

Live in a constituency where your MP takes full advantage of offshore tax 'loopholes', thereby basically robbing the country of money to progress the nation and its people? Or read a press empire owned by people who live abroad but do their utmost to manipulate and control the country, and backed by government, but 'have the nations best interests at heart'?!

I suspect the human species of the UK are being controlled extremely well already!

You're not trusting the infection, hospital and death numbers which have influenced controls and latterly reductions in problem levels? Would you have preferred not to be guided by experts, who influence policy and government laws?

It's a conspiracy to destroy society. Wake up sheeple

So i take it you wont have the vaccine then?

I was being sarcastic. I will."

"A walk on the beach can be quite dangerous ... please wear appropriate footwear, take a first aid kit and let someone know where and what you are doing, and in the event of not returning after a suitable length of time, the emergency number for the coastguard .... "

He's right you know, there was a couple who travelled down from London to the Isle of Sheppey at the weekend, got stuck in the mud and had to be rescued, and yes they ended up with a fine

Desperate to get up to the Scottish boarders to ride some of the trails there.

Has there been any news on when we are likely to cross the boarder into Scotland?

Its the doing as we like that has kept us in lockdown longer.. juat once I would like to hear "this roadmap has been set out, now it is up to you the british public to not be dicks".. 8th March schools go back was announced last week. Anyone would think lockdown was over. So many people out and about.. my trip to the hospital was just scary!!!

And yet when infections go up... Schools will take the blame again "

Supermarkets and hospitals are the main areas where the virus is being spread.

if Nicola has her way, maybe not. we've to be stuck back in the very restrictive tier system with no end date at all.....I'll go down & change the sign from welcome to Scotland to welcome to Russia.

The BBC has an article on this showing which level each area would fall into. Most would be in 3 at the moment but give it a couple of weeks and the drop in cases will push many into 2. When the tiers come in at the end of April is suspect there will be a lot more freedom including travel into Scotland.

"Travel around the uk is not expected to be permitted until the 12th of April.

I travel around the UK all the time in fact I am travelling from Newcastle to London tomorrow.

Then back on Friday.

The virus must be able to tell when you are working or not

What?

You have always been able to travel for work if you cant work from home!

"If I can travel it must mean that the government thinks I'll be safe, the rules are stupid"

Rather than "I recognise that every decision is a series of compromises""

This virus debate has become like the Brexit debate. It brings out people's devicive attitudes. Why be so aggressive?

"anyone know when the restrictions are lifted for travel out of local area.. just so we can't soothe a distraught 9 year old who wants to walk on the beach?

thanks "

Just go for a walk on the beach.

The motor ways are still busy, all road networks still have heavy traffic. Just go. If your with your family anyway and your not rubbing shoulders with anyone else then just do it

It's necessary. I'd love go to the seaside at the weekend, but the bus and 45 minute train journey isn't necessary.

"We all should do our part and try to get the numbers down, or we could follow Boris and go and visit school, hospitals and industrial places with camera crews and that. Seems to be rules for us and separate ones for mps "
That probably classed as travelling for work, same as reporters, teachef, nurses that he visits.

Guess what? My sister had coronavirus. And she looks dreadful.

And while she is in her early 50s she is extremely fit a swimming coach and teacher and looks like she aged 10 years and still has difficulties breathing.

I have not heard anything about an total end to the tier system in Scotland, definitely not in April, she was talking bout having them still in place June/July and even then still no end date to them.
