Since leaving Facebook due to the negativity, this section proves how toxic life has become.

Even positive posts rapidly turn to negative.

Truly can't wait for this bloody virus to be part of life and we can enjoy is again

Ps, I try to stay away from the section but it keeps drawing me in

Pps, I expect an onslaught

I agree. Social Media has become toxic (actually it is a key catalyst driving toxicity in communities).

It has driven tribalism and extreme, entrenched views that stifle polite debate. It fails to recognise that life is not black or white it is multiple shades of grey.

Social Media has provided an anonymous outlet for extremism and behaviour that simply would not be tolerated face-to-face.

It is also quite addictive and drags you in down the rabbit hole!

The amount of time I have wasted is worrying!

Social Media started out as a force for good enabling connection. It has lost its way.

I too will be pleased when this Virus section is gone. I can’t stay away but frankly it is pointless.

Then again, most of the discussions are at least more interesting than 100 threads on “bareback yes/no” “is a man bi if he sucks cock” “how do I get my partner interested” “single guys are crap/gave a hard time” etc

I agree. Like all these things it's upon us to make it a positive experience or a negative one. And it's shown time and time again that we can't be trusted to play nicely. The world would not be a worse place if "social media" were switched off for a few weeks. So where did we get to on the fuck marry avoid debate?

I have thought for a long time now that society in general have become toxic. Driven mainly by the 'Deserving generation', who for whatever reasons believe they are 'owed' everything in life.

There you go, that should divert your flack

I don't use social media and any negative people in my life I leave behind, as cruel as that may sound. You become what you surround yourself with and attract what you put out. I try and keep away from the news, and shows that only serve to highlight the negative in life.

I come to this section to keep up to date with the clubs etc.

I understand what you're saying as when this pandemic finally comes to an end, it will be good to see the depressing threads go. However I find I'm drawn more to the English forum as the topics of conversation are much more interesting than the Scottish forum. Sorry Scotland lol x

I completely agree. I wish this section was at the bottom of the list so I wouldn't have to see the doom and bloody gloom on here all the time.

I've only been on this section a few times, mostly after announcements..every time, I see nasty people making horrible comments.

I cannot wait for it to disappear, we come on here for a distraction, to speak to like minded people about things we only really talk to people about on here. Let's just be positive, shall we?

Her x

I have no issue with discussions (even heated ones, no name calling) to be quite frank discussion is important to getting beyond all this, the calls that will lead to nothing but segregation and discrimination and handing control to private sectors all in the usual name of 'pitch fork' fear mentality.

Media & gov is to blame for a campaign so harsh that it is akin to domestic abuse psychology! There is no argument there when they are making out someone is a murderer just for being a living human!

This world is very much driven by monetary decisions, if you think its not, i'd say your naive...data is the new precious metal, do not give privacy away freely!

Social media algra thingys bring like minded folk together, but that has always driven segregation, discrimination & tribalism views entirely forgetting that if you only speak to folk with the same views as you you cant expand the conversation beyond your own world views & gains no understanding.

It also shocks me who are the ones shouting loudest sometimes, ones who have most likely already known discrimination due to unfounded fears.

I say unfounded because covid has a 97% survival rate...far from 100% kill rate.

Take care of your body, it's the only one you get.

Good points. I especially like the point about reading and debating with people who don't share your views and opinions (which is hard to do). As for privacy and data.. Also agree... But anyone using a mobile phone or Google or amazon has already gifted away most of their privacy to a data mining centre in bangalore.

I guess we may all define something as “toxic” differently depending on our own world view?

For example, the use by many right wingers of being “woke” as an insult. Previously it was “political correctness” that was the target.

Surely (perhaps with some outliers) “woke” is actually just trying to be polite and respectful to people who have difference to yourself (be that skin colour, religion, sexuality etc) and to avoid deliberate offence?

I and others have said above though that society is indeed becoming increasingly tribalist and less open to ideas that do not fit with their world view. It will only end one way and that is not good!

What absolute boll*x

But joking aside, the worst people are getting too comfortable on social media. Everyone wants to be the best. I’m happy in the knowledge that no matter what, I’m the best at been me, it’s nothing impressive but I’ll always be me and true to myself and good people

Not medical data yet though, which is the true gold mine,

habits & mindsets (or appearance of) they tend to know, its disgusting, they are only looking to see how they can profit not for the benefit of the masses.

I actually try not to, turn off permissions, vpn etc & limit everything, i know how easy it is to be seriously hacked.

On reflection I think my term 'toxic' was perhaps incorrect. Maybe I should have said intolerant, angry or violent. It's seen more and more in today's society, years gone by if you had a bump in the car, you'd exchange details, now more often than not it results in an abusive onslaught or worse. Everyday life and social life (remember that?) has become a minefield to navigate and to keep safe. I agree it's good to question things, but I believe the difference now is people are too eager to question everything, but are not open to listening to the answer especially if the answer is not the same as their viewpoint. They get abusive in the misunderstanding that their aggression will win the argument for them. Not sure I've articulated my point very well, rambled a bit I think?

I have also noticed that about the positive threads. I like the debates in here, but it is rather one sided and doesnt represent all the views, it is good to have for an against it equally
