Are you and people you know willing to accept illness for a return to a more usual life.

Are you and people you know willing to accept that there will be an air of Covid around however with vaccination and potential medicines / drugs we will have to accept that people will get ill just not as bad (numbers wise) as its been.

Businesses will have to accept that workers will get ill and will have to be off work but still get paid.

People will still die however probably not at the rate they have.

Perhaps look at Covid similar to Flu.

Every year a lot of people reckon they have Flu however its usually a bad cold. If you really have Flu you are incapacitated, not able to do anything for a week and around 2 - 3 weeks to get back to previous health. The older you are, less healthy you are, underlying health conditions you have all contribute to how bad flu hits you and your risk of dieing from it.

Covid is probably going to have to viewed in a similar way as i cannot see it being eradicated.

I agree except that it shouldn't be limited to COVID. Look at what's happened to flu, probably because of people being careful and not spreading it. How many flu deaths have been prevented because of the restrictions ?

I'm not saying we should treat flu like covid but being encouraged to isolate and not spread it would surely be a good thing!

Ahhh ... the experience of someone who has used that excuse at least once. .

For Covid one would have a test and would then give proof of a positive to employer.

Same could be done (or developed) for Flu as well.

If it can’t be eradicated totally, then we either way have to push through. As this is not a viable way of living for much longer. (It cost 400bn already)

So hopefully the vaccinations will help to slow/stop the spread and contain deaths or bad reactions to the virus! But I don’t think we can do another whole year Of everything closed every few months and perpetual in and out of lockdown..

Fully agreed, Covid is something I think we're going to have to live with but hopefully with enough people vaccinated the chance of infection and death ratio will become similar to seasonal flu but obviously still carrying the chances of longterm effects unlike flu.

HIV was not airborne so not as transmissible as Covid, it was/is a close contact disease that is spread mainly via unprotected sex.

It’s not comparable to HIV / AIDS.

I can remember the adverts about HIV /AIDS and they were pretty clear about the danger and consequences.

Totaly agree with thi, plus I don't think people would be able to continue with lockdown much longer. There would be a time where people started to rebel against any lockdown. Although we are all doing or bit, we are not creature of hibernation and social contact in in our eveolutionary genes.

I also remember the rest of the world not stopping having unprotected orgies.

I'm not saying they are comparable in transmission or effect.

I'm saying that the action requested of the population is beyond pathetic.

Aids back then had a 90% death rate in all people infected even unborn children.

Covid from the start had a 99.7% survival rate in all people under 70.

We didnt stop having sex for aids.

I had the attitude that Covid wasn’t as bad as people were making it out to be I also used to think flu was just as bad then a few weeks ago my husband came home from working away got up on the Friday not feeling good and within 1 hour yes just 1 hour his breathing was that bad he need the help of a ventilator. 50 years old in very good health never smoked went jogging at least 3 times a week . Now after 11 days in hospital I have him home but he is suffering long term effects of Covid , he’s tired , weary sleeps a lot as stomach pains , sweats palpitations, shakes . So please don’t be foolish and think it’s anything like the flu . This affects so many people in different ways my husband will suffer long term affects and drs can’t tell us if he will ever get back to normal again . He’s a shadow of his former self but lucky to be alive . Stay safe people don’t be stupid do the right thing

I will be prepared to risk some illness, but not anywhere on the order of magnitude of what we're seeing now.

I want wildly crazy things like, I don't know, ICU units running at or under 100% of capacity (capacity being proper staff numbers not current emergency measures). Protecting the NHS from further PTSD. Operations for cancer and other things resumed. And a severe reduction in the risk of long term effects for those who don't end up in hospital.

I'm sorry but where are you getting these ridiculous facts? Are you a Scientist or a Doctor, or is it your friends aunts sisters boyfriends mate who furnished these gems of wisdom?

I am in my seventies and probably a lot healthier than obese people smokers and junkies.

In a couple of years it's reasonable to assume that covid will be similar to flu, in its effect on society, if we take the right decisions today, to control it very seriously. It's a very different diseases to flu, much more infectious and more catastrophic in its effects and so the only similarity we probably should hold is for it to be managed properly, including via vaccines.

It's still a very new virus, unlike flu it's not stable globally and we don't have years of experience of it, nor the global infrastructure that has been invested in, to sustain it as a largely manageable threat to well-being. It's foolish to assume that we know enough about it, nor how it's going to stabilise around the world yet. The only safe assumption is that it will continue to pose a threat to us and that it will need significant investment, to attain the stability that we'd like. The ideal is for additional deaths to be below that of flu in its best year of the previous 10 years or so - we should aim high, not settle for worst 'best'.

There was no lock down as it was not transmitted through the air.

The adverts where very explicit in and way it was potrayed.

People have been charged with manslaughter for derliberatly infecting others but I guess more education on aids and std would be for all

As teens we new it as the Asshole Injected Death Sentence so there was lots information

If you had flu you wouldn't be going out anywhere as it would keep you in bed for at least a week , where as Covid affect most people in different ways some mildly others badly

Perhaps we didn't lock down the nation for aids because you can't catch HIV just by standing next to somebody in the supermarket, sitting next to them on the bus, or working in the same room as them?

And yes, we do tell people that having unprotected sex with strangers is incredibly dangerous, and causes the spreading of a deadly disease.

My dad died aged 48 when I was 9 to cancer

My mother had diphtheria aged 9 and beat it , she also beat cancer twice sadly passed away aged 86 to dementia and breast cancer (pneumonia was put on death certificate)2018

In the last 5 years have lost 4 very close to me aged 49 52 53 62 all to cancer (LIFE IS TOO SHORT)

I suffer mental health problems and blackouts, l want to get on with my life , l feel like a prisoner in my own home

Mum always said your born into this world to serve a purpose

None of us know what that purpose is but once we have forefilled it then it's our time to make room for others being born

People that were worried about catching HIV, or who knew they had already been infected, did stop having sex. And yes unprotected orgies did stop, because for the first few years of aids, many people who continued with unprotected orgies ended up dead.

The action requested of the population to cut transmission on HIV was to wear a condom when having sex, and limit the number of people you have sex with. Funnily enough though, you usually didn't need to wear a condom when you weren't having sex. And where I lived you didn't need protection when walking down the street because you didn't get random strangers jizzing onto you...

It took a very long time for the correct information to come out though, a very long time which resulted in many many deaths.

A lot like COVID, the public were not given the facts initially, information was hidden, patients were hidden away!

I feel that Trumps stance on COVID was very similar to that of HIV/AIDS back in the day.

We didn’t understand it then but we do now so AIDS is no longer a death sentence, let’s hope we’re more able to learn and push forward with COVID

your mother spoke right because it's about knowledge understanding creates better living and those who think they know aren't always right but those less know better common sense
