It wasn't a vaccine or a pandemic if I remember right. Wasn't it a modified virus to cure cancer or possible hiv? Don't think it was set in 2021 either but could be wrong on that.

I haven't read the book so not sure what it is in that. Good film though. The old version of the film(the omega man) was a biological weapon.

There's a few others.

A must is Contagion 2011 which is a brilliant imo.

Outbreak 1995 is very good especially for its time, World Zone Z 2013 is good.

I want to watch Songbird (II) 2020 and 28 Days Later.

The cinema scene in outbreak is good for showing how easily a virus can spread.

Back in lockdown 1 a film maker flew a drone through Edinburgh filming the empty streets then put the 28 Days Later music over it. Was really good and very eerie. I think the Police fined him though!

Film: Set in 2012, three years after an outbreak caused by a genetically re-engineered measles virus which had been thought to be a cancer cure.

Book: Pandemic which turns people in to vampires.

So no, not really all that similar

Omega Man was brilliant back in the day but it may have paled in comparison by now.

The book is quite good (though dated as was written in the mid 50s). The film based on it was The Omega Man with Charlton Heston but I am pretty sure the BBC did an adaptation in the mid 60s.

The book is very different to the film and as you say quite dated.

"Pandemic, vaccine gone wrong, set in year 2021

Vaccines have gone wrong before, and not so long ago either.

Remember swine flu?

Hundreds of european children developed severe brain damage from the swine flu "Pandemrix" vaccine, and that was only a decade ago.

Hundreds of people developed Narcolepsy as a direct result of taking the vaccine. The vaccine was rushed out and may not have went through clinical trials. Nobody knew that narcolepsy was a possible side effect.

So there you go, an example of a vaccine gone wrong. This is 100% fact you can google it.

This link is only about those 100 affected in Ireland, there were many more across Europe. https://www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/arid-30986638.html

The Swine Flu vaccine was not properly tested and approved though, slightly different to what’s in play now.

I was talking to a woman in a boozer last July who had received the Oxford vaccine, if there was a problem it would have been identified by now.

Not forgetting The Satan Bug film from the 60's.

They are thinking of mixing the vaccines to increase protection might be pushing their luck. Time will tell.

Still alot of unknowns. Hope for the best. If things work out we'll be over the moon or sick as parrot.

Clichés done.

The Omega Man (1971) is a lot closer to the book - I Am Legend (1954), by Richard Matheson (well worth reading - he wrote The Shrinking Man (1956), too) and it's a way better film.

I am legend (film) is very loosely based on the book.

For instance the book is about vampires and are fought off with such classic deterents like garlic crosses etc.

I expect which also explains why the 'monsters' in the film are allergic to sunlight.

The vampires know where neville is and he spends most nights fighting them off not hiding in a bathtub

neville is the last survivor, hence the title "I am legend" being a statement about his species being extinct and also reflected on the ending being different...

Whoosh!!

I think that the point of the woman in the pub was she had the vaccine in July because trials were happening then. It's 6 months later and no serious side effects have been made known publicly. Of course that doesn't mean there hasn't been any.

There was also an increase in narcolepsy in China at the same time. They didn't use Pandemrix vaccine.

100 people in uk diagnosed with narcolepsy. 6million vaccines.

110k covid deaths in uk.

This comment made me read the book, just finished it and it is a very good book indeed.

I see no relation to covid though

I think the scenario, the scientists vs the virus/sickness or whatever is threatening Man's existence and it going wrong or possibly going wrong is the meat and potatoes of the books and films.

Lessons to be learned nevertheless.
