Edinburgh.

If we put our hands in our pockets we could save lives. We just need to bottle the spirit of Bob Geldof. We could do this and show Europe we care.

Germany is sending medical staff to Portugal and some Portuguese patients are being treated in Austrian hospitals. Great to see Austria and Germany helping a struggling neighbour.

A few things here....

1) gloating over other peoples situations especially when you are talking about something that can be the difference between life and death is crass at best..

2) Pfizer and biontech announced today that they are going to be able to produce 75 million more doses in Q2 due to improvements in their factories....

3) astrozenica have also said they are going to upgrade their factory in Belgium to be able to produce more vaccines....

We don't need to help Europe, Europe has plenty of money to buy vaccines. The European vaccine problem is due to supply problems.

That is a rather short sighted idea OP.

It is the third world that needs help with vaccines. The UK is giving a huge amount of vaccine doses to Africa funded by our foreign Aid budget.

This is actually the most ridiculous idea I have heard in a long time. We need to help poor countries who cannot afford vaccines, not wealthy Europe. Why on earth would we want to show Europe we care when they already have vaccines ordered and plenty of money to pay for them. Europe should be putting their hands in their pockets to help the third world.

Just thought. We could reform the 80’s band “Europe” and use their song The final countdown. I just saw the stats and they have only 2.5% of the population left to vaccinate in Germany. We could help them “countdown” the last few people. It’s a worthy cause. Please don’t let me think you could all be so cynical and not help out.

Strange that they posted on 62000 people out of their target of 300000 a day was how they were performing back on 20th Jan?

Big difference from this time last year when the EU completely disregarded Italy who then had to rely on Russia’s help.

Please put you facts that they've only got 2.5% to go. Absolute tosh.. We're far in front of them and we're only about 10% vaccinated

It's mainly a production and supply issue. It's appropriate to help globally.

really I got that wrong? You mean they have not managed with the might of the all powerful EU facing a global pandemic managed to get to 97.5% of the population. What are they on 95%? They really do need our help. I recon the video for the song should open with Adele but Bono should be in there somewhere.

I think this a wind up thread of someone who is bored and wants a rise out of people. How very sad.

I share your sentiment. If the EU can't with their apparent power, control and collective resources one needs to be asking some very serious internal questions to its efficacy, management and fund distribution.

Europe can fuck well off. They've given us the short straw for years and now they are demanding our supplies of vaccine and you want to send them money. Go and live in France or Italy if Europe is that important to you and leave the UK to those of us that want to be here.
