"Oh god three more months of Zoom quiz night with my family. A small price to pay. " Probably better than the deniers posts on here, who are unhappy about everything, for 3 months .

"This just came up on my news ap. It's not looking good that anything is going to open up anytime soon. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/01/24/britain-faces-three-month-halfway-house-lockdown-easter-over/" I'm assuming a very slow opening up from Easter, with similar restrictions to last summer by this summer. Then back to harsher tier restrictions next winter again.

" I'm not so sure actually about restrictions for next Winter because by then hopefully if we have enough uptake we will have the 66% that is needed for herd immunity through the vaccine. Getting the virus isn't necessarily an issue it's the fact that you could get seriously sick and need hospitalisation or pass it on to someone that could. And hopefully the vaccine will give enough protection that huge numbers aren't needing hospital treatment.

"By my calculation, 3 month lockdown from Easter takes us to end of June. Then 12-14 weeks easing after that takes us to Early or Mid Sep. Say Sep 20th. Which means March 23rd 2020 to Sep 20th 2021 = 546 days. By comparison, WW2 lasted 2190 days. My point ? Others have endured far more, for far longer in living history. We can do this. And at the end of WW2, there was still a society to go back to. Nothing evaporated. I'm not says it will or has been easy, but we'll get there, just hang in there and draw strength from those who endured far more and got through it. " If there is one thing I can't stand it's these constant comparisons to the war.

"If there is one thing I can't stand it's these constant comparisons to the war." Ok, let's compare to the Spanish Flu Pandemic then of 1918-1919, it being a pandemic and more relevant. Estimated one third of the world's population became infected (500 million people) Number of death estimated at 50 million (CDC Statistics) Sadly my great grandparents are no longer around, but without vaccines and antibiotics to treat secondary infections, they endured a global pandemic more acutely than I have experienced personally. Oh, and they had WW1 to deal with at the same time too. If that isn't hardcore, I don't know what is; which thinking about it, makes me feel even more thankful to count my blessings.

"Why do you have to compare it to anything? We are in a shite unrelated situation that is bringing many problems for many people. " Because we as a species draw on knowledge , instruction and experience from events, people and experiences that precede us. It's simply part of the learning curve, which we use to shape, inform and advise us of our own current experience. To draw inspiration from, or seek counsel from, or obtain caution from. For some, picking apart the past can help develop their own experience of the present. Think of a journey across the Sahara. Do you load up the vehicle with water, food, fuel, a gps, and set off and hope for the best ? Or do you plan an itinerary, calculate resource consumption, put in to place support systems to cover unexpected eventualities, read accounts and experiences of others who have done it before, and then set off ? Who is the better prepared ? The better informed ? Who knows what is coming and what to expect ? Who can easily adapt in an unexpected turn of events ? Who can reframe more easily ? " We live in a totally different world now, one which nobody knows how anyone coped during wars and Spanish flus. " I disagree. There are plenty of first-hand accounts written by those who lived through these things, and in the case of the former oral histories still being spoken by those who survived these things. We can either ignore them, or learn from them. " I'd hazard a guess though that everyone didn't just suck it up though. Folk have had their thoughts clouded by stiff upper lip films. It was shite for folk the (sic) and it's shite for folk now." I think you are conflating one too many war films and the stiff upper lip some portray (often as propaganda) with the natural human ability to endure, persevere and draw upon resolve. Some have deeper reserves. Others do not. But we all have the ability and can learn to expand, extend and refine it through a number of ways. It's just that one of those ways is looking to the past and paths others tread.
