The reason it doesn't "seem" like a minority is that all infractions are being reported. If the reported every person who didn't break the rules, it would be a one sided comparison.

i think that depends your circle, i don’t think people realise just how much of an echo chamber they usually live in

i can say truthfully that my estimate would be less than 20% of people i interact with wether that be friends/ family/ social media friends/ dating apps still follow all of the rules ... they might not all be having parties but they are mixing with people outside of essential purposes and often inside homes

The news does skew towards reporting the remarkable, by definition.

I think BBC4 did a show on "how people have obeyed the rules"

A rave in Hackney broken up by police. 300 people.

A wedding party in North London broken up by police. 150 people.

A house party in Kensington broken up by police. 200 people. (not the first offence).

A student party in Birmingham broken up by police. 200 people.

A funeral in Hertfordshire broken up by police. 150 people.

All in the last few days.

The numbers are truely staggering. No regard for doing right, and utter selfishness.

I'm absolutely astounded.

People are rightly sick of being told what they can and can’t do after nearly a year. The more you try to stop people, the more they will resist.

The reality is, we don’t have the Bubonic Plague at large and people have now realised this.

It’s good to see people pushing back and standing up against this tyranny at last.

Once you give up all your freedoms you don’t get them back.

It’s a great pity more people on here don’t realise this.

The resistance will only build the longer they restrict people’s freedoms. And it needs to, otherwise we will never get out of this.

You should have seen Cost Co yesterday. I insisted I would shop alone and stuck to the rules.

It was a wall to wall family day out with people trying clothes on in the aisles and a lady arguing with a member of staff about drinking while walking round with her chin bra on.

Saw a family of five queue up with just a bag of salad.

We don’t help ourselves.

I've always wondered why it is that the news reports murders, when there's far more non-murders going on. If they reported more on the non-murders then people wouldn't be anywhere near so outraged by murders. Why is it that some people on here are so obsessed with the negative things?

And for that matter, even with the murderers, the snowflakes keep banging on and on just about the people that they killed. All the murderers that I know of, there's far more people that they didn't kill than what they did! There's loads of people that Jeffrey Dahmer didn't eat, why didn't the newspapers tell us about those people?

It's all a bloody obsession with the media, telling us about knife wielding maniacs when they could be telling us about the far higher number of non-knife-wielding non-maniacs...

Millions of people are abiding by the rules. The media only report on the negatives.

People need to listen to the positive news instead of getting hung upon the negatives. It'll make you feel a whole load better.

I think it's healthy that some people push back and challenge the measures. I won't call them restrictions as they barely constitute restriction let alone lock down. Yeah it's bloody horrible, and yes it's messing with people finances and mental well being. And yes it needs, at the right moment to be investigated.

Good for those people who stand up and challenge that.

But the but where I lose it is in those who throw around words like tyrrany and despot and fascist and Totalitarian and ignorantly nazi and liken it to regimes which are genuinely fascist. It just loses ant traction at that point with me.

Yes we are being somewhat restricted. Yes we do need to be mindful that we keep the balance right. But for everyone who is exercising their "freedom" let's keep in mind the rights of the others not to be infected, hospitalised and die. And before anyone says... But its no worse than flu... I have very close personal experience that it tortures and then kills people.

I think debate is healthy. But it should be on the basis of evidence.

This disease has killed too many and disabled more. The PTSD many in the NHS are being forced to acquire will haunt us. We don't know the long term effects.

Is lockdown the best answer? No. It's a stopgap while we figure out wtf to do. It was correct last spring, because we didn't know what we were dealing with. Now, it's a harmful emergency measure because long term sustainable strategy has not been adopted.

That doesn't mean that we're losing democracy. That's fucking absurd.

This is the problem though because you only need a tiny minority to be breaking the rules for the virus to spread like wildfire.

You can almost guarantee somebody that is prepared to go to a large party or gathering is breaking the rules daily.

It's not a tiny minority tho is it I guarantee that almost everyone reading this thread knows of someone either in their street or area not following the rules, individually it's a small amount of people add all these small infringements together and actually it's a very large number who can have a very real impact on the continued spread of the virus.

And everyone that does, is slapping a nurse or a doctor in the face, is giving two fingers to the people who have done the right thing for months.

There is no excuse, no mitigation. Its that simple.

My cousin died yesterday from a heart attack. The machines were turned off after 4 days. Had an ambulance reached him in time he may still be here but the ambulance took 2 hours in which time his brother was giving him CPR. Thecreason for the delay is the current pressure on the NHS due to Covid 19.

Follow the rules whether you like it or not as people are dying when otherwise they might have been saved.

NHS workers also need the respite so it is up to you as the next time you need help, it might not be there.

These are extreme examples And how many people think or will its OK because alright it is essential for me to nip into town but I will anyway because I'm not as bad as the people going to the raves.

I will invite my brother in his family round because it won't be a problem and it's not as bad as having 150 people at a wedding.

I would say that is far more than a minority.
